Forum Post: We need to stop soliciting Ron Paul, here. (I'm RP supporter)

I spent many hours drumming on the streets for RP in 08. Had a strong active meetup group and RP gets my vote in 2012. But we need to respect those that don't share our libertarian/tea party view and not solicit RP here at OWS. I can see that Paulites are driving people nuts, around here. I think we can get some of what we want, like ending the Fed, the wars and other fascists if we don't annoy everyone. We don't want to hear about socialism so let's let anyone interested research RP on their own.

I more or less agree with you. Especially when people keep creating new threads about him. However - in my discussions with a lot of people about RP, some people are just lying and distorting his views and his platform. I am not willing to let that go.

yeah but we know this happens all the time. Maybe you can correct the information and bring the conversation back to fascism.

Well, I've definitely been trying hard to talk to people about the principles. However there are some true jerks that simply want to insult other people. I guess there's no point in that case - they've already made up their minds.

One thing I'm hitting hard is the idea of power to the states - that is one that seems to resonate with people, even a lot of liberals.

The tea party was hijacked by neo-conservative Republicans. OWS will be hijacked by ultra liberal Democrats. The powers that be want us divided so they can fit us into their two party system. Ron Paul has to run as a Republican, because if he ran as a Libertarian only, he would not get to debate, he would get zero coverage. But because of this people automatically think he is a Republican like the other crooks.

true but i think we need to let them figure that out on their own. I think we are over-compensating for fear of co-opting from the left, that we're kind of obnoxiously ramming our religion down everyone's throat. And then they talk more about socialism which we don't want rammed down ours.

Also I've noticed that the people who say the Fed doesn't matter have no clue about how money is created and how the Fed is impoverishing anyone. Hell, there are still a lot who don't even know that it's not Federal, and there's no reserve!

it's hard because this country needs to be saved and you're just trying to save the country. No offense to anyone, but the mormons are just trying to save my soul, but I'm annoyed when anyone comes to my door with that. Ya know? I think we just have to let them figure it out.

Actually I'm on the fence now about the saving the country part. I'm half inclined to say let the states secede that want to, and to hell with the feds. I would move to a state that did that in a heartbeat (well, there'd be some logistics involved, but you know what I mean...)

I would move to that state too

You got that right. A few of them nuts tried to attack Alec Baldwin today.

hello?

You got it. I'll stop pimping RP if they stop pimping socialism. That's something I'm down with. Then maybe we can get along and continue to define the problems we face. What after that though?

[-] 1 points by number2 (914) 12 years ago

let's defeat fascism first and then we can have a tug-o-war over socialism vs. capitalism.

[-] 1 points by Misguided (373) 12 years ago

I'm totally cool with that. All I am saying is that if others are going to pull their way then it's only natural that those of us that believe differently would do so as well. I get it though because people want to try to offer solutions and that is when we start to disagree. It is important to have the discussion but it really seems to be divisive. It's not a good situation to win something and then not know what to do so I really don't blame either side for voicing their opinions on how to fix the situation.

problem is everyone thinks the other started it and this could go on for eternity. I'd rather talk about the bankers.

[-] 1 points by Misguided (373) 12 years ago

I'll give you that.

I think we are so concerned about this being co-opted by the left that we are over-compensating. I think this is and should continue to be a non-partisan movement. But I asked some others why they were attacking Ron Paul and doing so from a left-wing position and they said it was because RP people are co-opting OWS. So I reconsidered that maybe we are not helping either.
