when was the last time a president repersented the poor. or was from a poor background. go to some of the poorest areas of our country and look for a pres. look in the ghettos or the mountians were people learn from the street. this would make a peoples president someone who knows what it means to be poor. not some rich guy who knows how to take handouts from big money. id take the money and flush it to the people and let them see what companies are buying the vote. that way a boycott of all the things they make or do could happen.

To be President, you have to be hardworking and smart. That's why we've never had a poor president and never will.

exactly. A hardworking, determined, politically, and economically minded person who can get enough attention to win the popular vote and the electoral college vote is... and i'm sure you guessed it... Probably not a poor person! because then They wouldn't be poor. haha.

The way things are right now you're never going to see a poor man mount a successful run at the White House because that takes an incredible amount of both raw capital to pay for things like ads and an incredible amount of manpower (which means unless your friends are incredibly skilled and dedicated you're going to be shelling out left and right to get competent staff). All of that has to be in place before you're anywhere near a position to make it in a primary (let alone a presidential primary).

There have, on the other hand, been a number of ex-pauper presidents (Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, Millard Fillmore, James Buchanan, James A. Garfield, Warren Harding, Herbert Hoover, Bill Clinton, Andrew Jackson, and our current president Barack Obama) who worked their way up the food chain well before reaching the White House but whose childhoods were in fact spent in relative poverty.
