What do you think would happen if we simply did not pay our student loans. Banks would have to go after each of the millions of students individually. It would take years, clogging up courts and throw them into chaos. But most importantly it would deny them what they love most. Money. Banks and the Government would be forced to negotiate with us and come up with a solution. But the only way it would work is if a majority simply withheld payment for a few months.
Now you're talkin. It would have to be en masse, but dammit, this is the kind of shit that should be done. Economic upheaval will make people listen.

Not at all. They will sit on the paper until you finally decide you want to live a better life. You won't be able to get a loan, your credit score will suck. If you can get a credit card or a car loan you'll pay a higher interest rate than everybody else. A bad credit score will affect your ability to get a serious job. Yes, employers look at your score to gauge how trustworthy you are. Eventually you'll decide your life will be better if you pay the loan off, only later you'll owe more in interest and late fees.
Don't pay Student Loans. Stop paying on Credit Cards. Stop paying taxes. And take all your money out of Banks. That will render the government powerless... and maybe they will pack up and go home. Then, we can start over again... with Leaders of moral-conscience and servitude. It is time to clean the slate and start over again.
Who is the "we" you speak of? I would be thrilled if the OWS crowd decided to stop paying their taxes and loans back. Then you would all be arrested and put in jail. Nice ending.

Thoroughly agreed. These vermin advertise on TV that you'd better pay them a monthly fee or they might say something bad about you and cause you all sort of misfortune. That is LITERALLY no different from a Mob extortion racket.
Even if someone participates in some scheme to improve their own personal rating, for the people as a whole any collaboration has only harmful effects. Suppose nobody ever paid a credit card bill late - then they'd come up with new criteria, like downgrading your rating if you tell off a company representative when they won't fix a defective product. For that matter, how do you know they won't downgrade you because you're on the record as a Democrat primary voter or because you support OWS or because you complained about a bank fee? They're not accountable to anyone.

That strategy actually works! It's very good advice. I lived on half my income into my 30s and saved money. You'd be amazed at how many banks want to lend you money when they know you have it. The trick is to walk away from them until you really need a loan for something. Even then keep the loan as small as possible.
Oh, I wasn't suggesting for a moment that anyone buy - neither the credit score nor the loans, for that matter. And I suspect that their various widely advertised claims to control your employment, love life etc. are nothing but the usual empty street gang threats that they can get at you anywhere.
