Why are no politicians representing your views? Why is America controlled by corporations? Because of the voting system!
In a democratic country, a party that receives 20% of the votes receives 20% of the seats in the legislature. In the U.S., 20% of the votes gives you 0% of the seats because of the winner-takes-all voting system.
In a dictatorship voters have one choice. In America voters have only two. In a real democracy voters have a choice between multiple parties and platforms, and elections are not determined by donations to politicians.
We need the PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION SYSTEM, which creates a multi-party system where every viewpoint gets represented. Every vote counts and donations to greedy individual politicians don't exist. Proportional representation is the choice of all truly democratic countries such as Holland, Sweden and Denmark.
Proportional representation is the answer!

It seems to me that the Democrats are no more relevant than the Republicans. They both serve the same masters. For the first time Americans have a clear and viable alternative in Americanselect.org. This is a non-partisan ground up effort that harnesses the power of the internet to allow the American people to choose and run their own candidate for President. Skeptical? Americanselect.org already has nearly 2 million of the 3 million signatures required to field a candidate. Americanselect.org is a true end run around money and influence to direct democracy. Join us and make the 1% irrelevant.
The moment you have voting, you have a popularity contest. There was a scientific study that showed people photos of candidates from several small scale elections. The participants were then asked to chose which candidates "looked more like leaders". The participants were able to pick the winners far more often than not!
This means that there physical attributes that people tend to vote for and that elections are more frequently about looks than substance. You don't think that corporate interests and other power brokers don't know this?
We need a check and balance on the popularity contests along with corporate money's influence on them.
I suggest that we try in one state that we replace elections with a random lottery. If you want to be the next representative for your district (and you might eligibility criteria already established), you would have to acquire 25 signatures from people in your district that know you and will attest to your soundness of mind and integrity. This would allow you to put your name in the lottery.
This would put common people in government. They'd be checked and balanced by other representatives, by the Senate, President and SCOTUS... so you don't have to worry about boneheaded ideas from them. On the other hand, they do act as a check and balance on pro-corporate legislation, insane spending, etc.
We need a check and balance on elections. You have to realize how much political power is worth and the benefits to metagaming the system are HUGE. We need to put some common people in government to watchdog over everything.
we also should demand term limts for congress and the house
Wow, you were writing this post at the same time I was writing my post about 'parliamentary elections' and balancing the Senate. Great, I'm with you 100%...
It really is the only way
No, voting never changed anything, democracy is mob rule and ppl are stupid (voting for Palin/McCain). What we need is technocracy and to abolish money. I don't see that happening. Signs of the times say Babylon is falling. Time to fight or flee?
You don't seem to understand the implications of the voting system. The U.S. system limits the amount of parties to 2, and the Senate limits political progress on all fronts. Donations to individual politicians rot the system to the core...
So, voting and how it's done is kind of a big deal
Please review the following information again, and let me know how many hours to perfect this, and what kind of on-going support will I have after you do the initial work. I am prepared to offer a FULL AND EQUAL PARTNERSHIP FOR THIS IS A LIFETIME WORK AND THE WORK OF A LIFETIME! There are two sites: Site One is goldmoneyparty.com. It needs to be re-worked and programmed to accept money EXACTLY as I have described below, the 3x3 Matrix. The other is a domain name that has to be constructed yet: egovern.us. Egovern.us is to be designed like facebook, where we can like or dislike certain candidates, platforms, and agendas and electronically hold elections. The winner has the support of egovern.us and we will WRITE IN their name and elect them, thereby bypassing both the Republican and Democratic Party. This is a MASSIVE project, and I probably don't have enough funds at the moment to make it happen. BUT I am offering you the chance to become an equal partner with goldmoney.com and egovern.us. We will be placing ourselves in front of MASSIVE ANGER HERE IN THE U.S. and will force that anger to follow is in egovern.us! The potential is TREMENDOUS. I am willing to open a joint business account at PayPal with you, and sign whatever partnership agreements you find appropriate. Please call me on my cell 469-569-8209. Richard Peter. P.S. please review the site killgrocerybill.com for 6 or so minutes until you reach the compensation plan. I want EXACTLY THIS but modified to be a 3 by 3 follow me forced matrix all members paid on spill over. $330 is paid by the new member($30 of which is for access to our replicated website) and when a member cycles(gets three recruits) he or she is paid $300 to infinity. In additon, a $50 bonus is paid on all personal recruits if the member makes his first three sales within 90 days! I know you can do this.
