This content is user submitted and not an official statement

In spite of our cold weather this winter, the Arctic ice is still declining.

For even more fun, be sure to watch the denials at the end.

Guess who?

It's gonna look real ugly for 10,000 years or so.

But Shhhhhh, we don't want anyone to know.

http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2014/03/17/3412131/wyoming-rejects-ngss/

Some just want to let the "markets" take care of it.

http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2014/03/14/3407631/idaho-house-committee-passes-bill-to-get-rid-of-all-epa-regulations/

Yeah, right.

Meanwhile........

http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2014/03/17/3411561/sea-levels-greenland-ice-loss/

Then there's the libe(R)tarians, who play both sides against the middle to assure that nothing gets done.

http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2014/03/14/3407221/carl-demaio-climate-koch/

and the people who pollute it?

See for yourself.

It is cool and depressing - cool that anyone can do it - depressing that few would understand the math and what they were doing with it. But - COOL in that those with proper education can. There has got to be a few people around the world who could make good use of it - Right?

I am for everything that educates that engenders understanding awareness and most of all Participation in pushing for healthy change. Denier BS is starting to crumble more and more everyday - the pace has got to accelerate though.

ACTION ALERT Thank the EPA for Driving Ahead on Tier 3

Transportation is the largest single source of air pollution in the United States, but we are doing something about it. With your help, we won a major victory for cleaner air and healthier communities, with the White House finalizing new standards, known as Tier 3, to reduce sulfur from our gasoline and pollution from our tailpipes earlier this month. Implementing the Tier 3 standards will help prevent thousands of premature deaths each year by ensuring our gasoline burns cleaner and our tailpipes spew less pollution.

Thank the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for cleaning up our gasoline and cars.

Stronger standards for cleaner fuel and vehicles will put the United States back on track with global efforts to reduce the sulfur in gasoline. Low-sulfur fuels allow vehicles to perform better and will cut smog-forming pollution by hundreds of thousands of tons each year as soon as the rule takes effect. We can meet these standards with technology available today, and they will help us all breathe easier—especially the vulnerable communities living near high-traffic roadways.

Getting here took the work of tens of thousands of UCS supporters like you, and a coalition of health, environmental, labor, faith, state, and industry groups—but it also took a strong EPA effort to push the standards over the finish line.

Join us in thanking the EPA for protecting thousands of Americans from air pollution from our gasoline and tailpipes.

We are keeping an eye on Congress and the courts for the possibility of additional attacks in the coming months, but today we are also acknowledging a major milestone on the road to a cleaner transportation future.

Let's thank the EPA for their efforts to push Tier 3 across the finish line against the opposition of the oil industry and its allies.

Take Action

Sincerely, Rachel Cohen Rachel Cohen National Field Organizer Clean Vehicles Program Union of Concerned Scientists

I sent a reply to this e-mail:

You really should get in on the fight to support Tesla and it's national network growth. Other manufacturers would be forced to follow the example. To hell with gasoline.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

I added this to the letter http://action.ucsusa.org/site/R?i=Q0vj7o3NGNVolZIzRXJQdw :

But to be more proactive and to make the best healthy growth towards clean transportation:

You really should get in on the fight to support Tesla and it's national network growth. Other manufacturers would be forced to follow the example. To hell with gasoline. Make gasoline as clean as possible while it is still in use - BUT - shorten the time that gasoline needs to be used.

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 10 years ago

It's not enough. Tesla is at least 20 years too late.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

Correct Tesla is not enough ( least ways not just the USA converting ) - but transportation is a major pollution issue and Tesla type tech is immediately available for implementation - did you see today where France banned the driving of all even numbered ( plates ) cars in Paris? And may do the odd number cars tomorrow. Air pollution. Huh - well at least someone is starting to wake-up a bit - maybe they will end up banning all fossil fuel burners? There are alternatives available. GO TESLA !!! And all other completely electric vehicles.

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 10 years ago

It has to spread worldwide.......FAST!

From Mexico City to Beijing, to Rio, to LA, to Bombay.

All the old cars need to be GONE and replaced. In an instant.

All the coal plants, need to be GONE tomorrow.

what are the chances?

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

Tomorrow? None.

But "if" a decision were made to go full bore conversion? SERIOUS FULL IMPLEMENTATION ? I could see it done ( cars and trucks and buses ) inside of ten years - the manufacturing is already mostly in place from current transportation manufacturers - just need to retool/re-task. This including shutting down all coal power plants - they could go hydrogen fuel cell and be implementing thorium reactors I would say prior to the passing of ten years - but just going full implementation of solar cells and wind turbines would make a hell of a difference in ten years.

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 10 years ago

All of that would demand an admission that it's happening and that we are a part of why it's happening.

Getting that alone to happen could take 10 years, as they are still institutionalizing denial.

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

BTW - Have you taken the poll? https://www.avaaz.org/en/2014_member_poll_d/?cl=4247394707&v=37186

If not - please consider doing it - it is better than a yes no type deal - it gives you the opportunity to voice your thoughts/views and effect world wide opinion/action/strategy.

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

Denial can only last so long as a stalling factor - as the public is gonna see it clearer and clearer ( the effects ) - we are at a tipping point in public awareness. So once reality sets in to the majority - it leaves a question of how long to get all deniers removed from positions of authority/power and start full action to clean change.

Once the work begins I think it will be easier to feed that change.

So it really depends on when the tipping point is crossed = 1 year? 2 3?

All of the protests are helping and if we can push viable alternatives that are available RIGHT NOW to the public - we can build some good momentum for the proper work to get initiated/done.

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

It has to spread worldwide.......FAST!

It's why I am hoping that Avaaz will really take to the idea of networking with all Social Health Justice etc groups ( synergy ) and really push for implementation of clean tech and supporting the growth of such things as Tesla. It should dove-tail nicely into existing protests of ineffective/captured government.

Here are three important facts.

FACT 1: Climate change is real. FACT 2: Humans are causing it. FACT 3: The only way Washington is going to do anything about it is if we make them do something about it.

I’m among a pretty large group of senators committed to doing whatever it takes to raise awareness about the urgent need for action to address climate change -- and we’re asking you to join us.

Click here to sign our joint petition telling Congress to wake up and take action on climate change.

There’s plenty of data to support the scientific consensus on climate change. But there’s also plenty of data to support the sad conclusion that Washington just isn’t ready to take action.

But we don’t have time to wait for politicians to come to terms with the facts. And we don’t have the luxury of letting powerful special interests set the terms of this debate.

We have to demand action. And this petition is an important way for you to get involved.

We can solve the climate change challenge. But first, we have to solve the political challenge. And that means raising our voices as one to demand action now. Thanks for being part of it.

Al

P.S.: Once you’ve signed our petition demanding action on climate change, could you forward this email to three friends?

As fossil fuel accelerates the destruction of the world - when will come the call to sanity? Will it come?

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 10 years ago

Just after Miami goes under water.

Then somebody will go.

Hmmmmm, there might be something to this global warming thing. Why didn't Rush say something?

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

Miami ? or the Hampton s !

Limpballs? Didn't get his talking points on it?

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 10 years ago

I could look them up and provide a link, or you could just go to his web site.

It's a mess. All the denial is about the same though.

All the denial is about the same though.

Insanity - yep

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 10 years ago

No matter how many times you explain that it's NEVER happened this fact in all those millions of years, they still refuse to believe we could possibly have anything at all to do with it.

If the world continues to burn fossil fuels at the current rate, global warming will rise 2 degrees Celsius by 2036, crossing a threshold that many scientists think will hurt all aspects of human civilization: food, water, health, energy, economy and national security.

" hurt all aspects of human civilization: food, water, health, energy, economy and national security."

We are already seeing this - and if things continue as they are = expanding fracking etc etc Then I expect things will get significantly worse quite a bit sooner than 2036. I expect by 2025 ( 11 years ) we will see nasty results from growing droughts ( we already are ) - growing drought areas and severity and duration - coupled with increasingly turbulent weather = major wild storm events.

If the world continues to burn fossil fuels at the current rate

We are not burning at the same rate - insane as it is - fossil fuel extraction is expanding ( bringing with it it's own air pollution - prior to being burned ) and exporting is increasing - so - increasing the fossil fuel burning/use.

Ahhhhh, it's all a figment of your imagination.

The most powerful storm in recorded history didn't smash the Philippines, last year.

It was all done with Photoshop, like the moon landings.

Witchcraft, says the Kochs, and they have so much money they simply have to be right.

We're 3in shy of a record set in 1880, and who knows how they even measured it back then. For the last several years I've been bragging about having flowers by the end of March. They're up, but not blooming yet this year.

[-] 1 points by nazihunter (215) 10 years ago

The more I read about the Great White Hurricane, the more I realize how horrendous it was...sustained 50 mph winds...gusting to 80 mph in some places...over 400 people died...200 in Manhattan alone...ships running aground and capsizing from the weight of the drifting snow. Google up the Blizzard of 1888 - Vermont and see how it affected your state.

Finally a step in the right direction??? Coal producer to pay hundreds of millions for pollution

EDIT -> at this point in time - I have no idea of the cost of the damage done and what will the cost be to do a REAL clean-up ( if it can even be done ) - SO the record fine? Is perhaps nowhere near the cost of the damage done = SOSDD

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 10 years ago

Before, or after it spends a few decades on appeal?

[-] 3 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

U tryin to be a dickhead? If so - congratulations.

Ice ( frozen water ) that melts ( disappears ) is water or water vapor. It is no longer ice - so it ( ice ) is - in fact - disappearing.

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 10 years ago

It's water that changes form......derp, derp.

The ice, in this case, melts into the sea.
