Whites Against Racism
I have my hands full but I had a good idea for a campaign against racism. Most white folks that don't have race hangups have a friend or relative, or many, that have issues with race. Most of us also let it slide as to not cause confrontation and just wait for the moment to pass. We need a campaign with tactics and information on how to address this with our families and friends in a constructive way. This could also be used to organize events and media info. The government telling people that it ain't ok hasn't finished the job, we need to provide the extra push. + we know people love the word WAR.
I like the idea... but "whites" against racism? Every skin color should be against racism. And I know you agree with that... I'm just saying using the word "Whites" kind of establishes separation. Just some constructive criticism.
Racism needs to end and I fully agree with you on that. All forms of prejudice needs to end. It's absolutely disgusting that so much hate for the LGBT community is tolerated in the mainstream and even on mainstream television. No one deserves to be hated based on their appearance and their private life.
This whole religious BS from bigots when it comes to marriage is a disgrace. My mom was married in a courthouse. What did that have to do with a church and a religion?
Yes, but what about the blacks that have a racism problem, of which there are many? I imagine they could start their own campaign, BAR. Hispanics, however, will have to work on their acronym lest they not be taken seriously. ;-)
Unfortunately, considering the history and current attitudes regarding race held by the majority, it's hard to accuse African Americans of racism, without accounting for the fact that they've been forced into a position of reacting to very unfavorable circumstances.

As a young southern man with no black friends, grew up in all white town, when I left the service and went to school I had a black lab teacher, got to know him a bit after a while got up the courage to ask him about such things, I had already had talks in ethics/social studies class with several people and wanted his input outside the expected responses, as it turned out he was from Chicago, where race had given away to economic segregation already, this was some 30 years ago, I think it is kept alive today in part as a tool to be used by some to keep us from realizing the economic condition.
This is stuff you may be familiar with, but I guess what I’m saying is what a lot of people have said; a poor white man has a lot more in common with a poor black man than he does a rich white guy.

I think one of the major mistakes in how the U.S. has dealt with racism was by using the word and idea of "tolerance." To tolerate something means to endure something, to put up with something, to allow it to exist whether you like it or not. What was lacking in this approach is love, appreciation and equality. People shouldn't merely "tolerate" others. They should love others and accept them fully as equals.
Tolerating was the idea needed to get us this far. Maybe removing it from future language would be a good idea?
I'm not sure it didn't do more harm than good, but yes, I think it is time to move on and up. We can do better than that!
The best thing you can do?
-Wipe away negative feelings when people mention colors. Colors are cosmetic attributes. Black, white, purple. They are only colors, nothing is wrong with them.
-Stop apologizing or feeling the need to apologize for atrocities your fathers, grandfathers, and everyone before committed.
-Stop making others feel as though there is a debt to be repaid, especially if you were not alive during those times. That is between the people of generations before. Their hate will dwindle with their bodies if they insist on living in the past.
By no means do I wish to stop you. Do as you will. Just know that racism is in the mind the only way to kill that which is in the mind is to change it. It is internal.
I don't feel any of those things you point out. I feel sad that another child has been denied a full life because of skin color. In one of the most educated and advanced society on the planet, this is the best we can do?

You need to be extremely careful with this type of rhetoric if you look at Rwanda the Tutsis murders were a result of telling "victims" it's ok if they retaliate and are racist in reverse. I've seen looting and footage of blacks "retaliating" against whites for Travyon's murder. It makes me insane that they jump to racism for everything as a new sort of McCarthyism that makes criminals and their actions somehow untouchable. Perhaps the reason people are afraid of young blacks wearing hoodies is that young blacks have given cause for it. Time to take a look inward at their own societal issues instead of blaming others. Or maybe innocent people were sick of the crime and violence and just want to protect themselves and their families maybe the inital cause was the violence being committed by minorities against innocent people. Perhaps if "blacks" stopped calling themselves "black" and "whites" stop pretending to actually be "white" these verbal crutches could be erased whereas everyone would realize this is not a melting pot, but a country that contains many nations within a nation. Then on that note, these nations would regain their dignity, their names, their flags, along with their national honor of being considered citizens who have each others best interest at heart and can help raise a generation of children who have pride in themselves and others as being members of THE HUMAN RACE..
