I've been saying Alternative Radio is the shit.

You have to hear this. About the Prime Minister shutting down channels of information, the real deal about climate change and Sandy... I'm listening to it now, Wow.

Suzuki needs to be listened to and obeyed.

https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/david-suzuki-nature-things/id412788680?i=137939419&mt=2 (darn, replaced with the latest episode. But it's another from Wolff, so not a total loss. I'll try to find the Suzuki episode elsewhere.)

I see someone below gave a 1 star rating. Obviously accidental. I've heard 3 podcasts in a row.... Some twice. Wish I knew about this years ago. Best program ever.

by Omega Sound

Been listening on university radio stations across Canada since 2004... keep it locked. Alternative Radio is greatly informative.

by me four out the door

Alternative radio is essential listening to understand the context of current events. For anybody who enjoys Democracy Now!, Alternative Radio should be a part of the body of media that you follow.

I totally agree. I'm glad his daughter is as passionate. I love them, been watching Nature of Things since I was pretty much born.

It must be exciting, we need the link, or radio station!

[-] 3 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

I know, right?

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

It would be much more useful than just assuming it's shit.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Zactly.

I like David, so here's him on the Canadian angle.

http://www.davidsuzuki.org/blogs/science-matters/2013/03/does-selling-off-our-resources-make-us-an-energy-superpower/

Excellent question.

"Does selling off our resources make us an energy superpower?"

We seem to think so down here.

I like the oil drum Canadian tax breaks to oil company $ counter.

$43.76 per second.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

That kind of thing adds up, doesn't it?

Is there one for the US?

[-] 1 points by Kavatz (464) from Edmonton, AB 11 years ago

No idea. Probably too embarrassing to make public.

[-] 2 points by Kavatz (464) from Edmonton, AB 11 years ago

I had to look it up, David mentions it closer to the end: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sghunMfTnPg

his daughter in 1992. shivers!

[-] 4 points by Renneye (3874) 11 years ago

Thanks Kavatz. That's probably my 4th time watching her do this speech over the last couple of years...and I still get shivers. Amazing! It was nice to revisit it.

[-] 2 points by Kavatz (464) from Edmonton, AB 11 years ago

My pleasure, I hope you were able to find David's AR show. Did you watch Nature of Things growing up?

[-] 6 points by Renneye (3874) 11 years ago

Yep, I sure did watch Nature of Things. I'd watch mainly during winters. The rest of the year wasn't like with a lot of kids today. We actually 'played' outside...for hours. In fact we were told to 'go outside and play!'

What I didn't know is that David Suzuki spoke at 'Occupy Vancouver' in 2011...

[-] 2 points by Kavatz (464) from Edmonton, AB 11 years ago

That was awesome, thanks!

[-] 3 points by Renneye (3874) 11 years ago

You're most welcome....Suzuki is a warrior!

[-] 2 points by Kavatz (464) from Edmonton, AB 11 years ago

I was going to say that much of what he said in Van was the same as much of the AR show, but David Barsamian guides him in good directions.

I'd love to know what David thinks of the Venus Project.

[-] 1 points by Kavatz (464) from Edmonton, AB 11 years ago

It's a podcast. or you can google Alternative Radio.

But at this link you'll see there's apparently a new one posted today with Wolff: http://www.alternativeradio.org/pages/podcast

Not sure how to find the Suzuki show besides iTunes... if it's still there. I just subscribe to it, recommend you do too. At Alternative Radio apparently you can order past shows or something. I never make the time to figure this stuff out.

Do you know what NoKXL means?

NoKXL means you want a safe climate for you and your children.

NoKXL means you think producing safe, clean, renewable energy at home is more important than digging up dirty energy and exporting it for Big Oil’s profits.

NoKXL means you stand with the ranchers and farmers of Nebraska, the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, more than 50,000 people who have pledged civil disobedience and literally millions more.

NoKXL means "No to the Keystone XL Pipeline". We’re heading into the critical last phase of the campaign here, and we need your help in spreading the word to ensure the Obama administration rejects the dirty, dangerous Keystone XL pipeline.

Oil Change International has played a vital role in exposing the many reasons the Administration should reject the Keystone XL pipeline. We released new analysis showing the pipeline’s greenhouse gas emissions are even greater than previously thought. We showed that the pipeline would be used to fuel refineries that are already exporting most of their oil around the world. And we exposed the hypocrisy of building more oil pipelines while promising to address climate change.i

But as evident as the reasons for rejection are, the influence of the fossil fuel industry is just as clear in the debate over Keystone XL. We have reasons and facts and good people like you. They have money. So it goes.

Presenting clear arguments for rejecting this pipeline backed by data is a fundamental first step, but we know it’s not enough. We need the many of you, because the industry has so much money.

As one member of our team said to me recently: “Loosen the bolts on the kitchen sink. We need to be ready to throw everything.” We know that Big Oil is all in on this one and we know we need to be too. So we're working with our friends at The Other 98% to spread the word as far and wide as we can.

Will you go to NOKXL.org and sign up? And will you please help us by telling ten of your friends? It’s easy.

When you’re done signing up, please spread the word:

We have to show the Obama administration just how big this movement is. The only way we can combat the millions in Big Oil money in DC is by bringing even more people to the front. And with your help, we’ll do just that. Onwards, Steve

Steve Kretzmann Founder & Executive Director Oil Change International

Love the video and Bill Murray after signing. Awesome.

More and more groups forming - more and more people getting involved. Pressure is building.

[-] 1 points by Kavatz (464) from Edmonton, AB 11 years ago

Whoever stinkled you for that should have their hands chopped off.

Forum/OWS/Occupy/Healthy-World/Environment attackers. They are worthless and their stinkles meaningless.

[-] 1 points by Kavatz (464) from Edmonton, AB 11 years ago

Wow, great show! Pure motivation.

Sorry if you missed the Suzuki episode... but Wolff is up next. I'm half way into it, I know I'll be listening to it again. One of his best? Again, AR is about an hour/week of pure motivation.
