I am very curious as to overall retail sales this year. Because I had expected a lessening for everyone except amazon. I have no real opinion of Walmart's employee relationship though. My impression is that their employees are not well treated but I am also quite certain that if Walmart is really adamant about keeping the unions out, and overall expense down, they will compromise to succeed.

So it seems. The story has been on the TV tonight. Why anyone would be surprised with this is a mystery.

What's your source for this information?

[-] 1 points by highlander (-163) 11 years ago

Pay goes up, that is good. Benefit improvement is also very noble. These benefits would be covered by increases in prices. Is there some sort of economic curve where the price goes up so much that sales go down? There is, and I wonder if that gets ignored in the continued demand for better wages and benefits.

[-] 0 points by richardkentgates (3269) 11 years ago

with a declining dollar, record high prices, that isn't hard. That doesn't mean they sold a record volume of goods, it just means they did a great job of siphoning off capital from the working class. You must be so proud.

According to reports, zero number of the protesters were associates and the protesters were believed to be hired by unions and or obama.

Some of the clowns on here claim that the low wages they are getting caused them to become obese. Too funny!!!!!!

[-] 5 points by JesseHeffran (3903) 11 years ago

The only uneducated person I see here is the one who does not know that stress and obesity are linked. Do yourself a favor and buy yourself a clue, you fucking moron. And don't bother replying to me; you will only be once again talking to yourself.

Here, educate yourself for the love of nation.

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 11 years ago

stress and obesity are linked.

why?

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Then why are we the richest nation and also the fattest?

Could it be that we value money too much, and thats the reason for our stress?

[-] 1 points by JesseHeffran (3903) 11 years ago

I believe the constant competitive nature of our society contributes to our obesity. It is not so much the love of money but the need to succeed.

I believe the same reason our taverns are some of the busiest bars in the world is why obesity is so prevalent. We are killing ourselves and our relationships in the ever more stressful environment we create for ourselves. It ain't no walk in the park to be the wealthiest nation in the world.

Also, not everyone values money, it is just that those who are just interested in getting by have to work a little harder and be a little more stressed out because of those on the the top who get off on competition.

Competition is killing us; money is just a way to keep score.

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

The only real measure of success in this country is money and goods.

Maybe the stress leads people to eat fattening foods because they are comforting?

[-] 2 points by JesseHeffran (3903) 11 years ago

A person who is not stressed out can eat fatty foods without getting obese, but a person who is stressed out all the time can't process the sugar as well as the non stressed person. It is biology, not so much psychology. That is why obesity is an equal opportunity killer. It infects those who fear the loss of their job because of constant competition, as in the corporate world. Or it can effect those who are stressed out about how they are going to make a six hundred dollar check feed three children and pay all the bills.

[-] 1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Then there should have been a shit ton of fat people during the depression. Im not denying your science, but it comes more down to advertising and people's choices than it does stress, the country is not twice as stressed as it was before.

[-] 0 points by grapes (5232) 11 years ago

I do notice somewhat of an inverse relationship in the U.S. between one's weight and one's income level. Lower income people seem to buy and probably eat more cheaper foods than higher income people. The choices of fresh foods also seem to be more restricted in poorer neighborhoods. Perhaps educational level and susceptibility to advertising also have something to do with excess weight.

[-] 0 points by Builder (4202) 11 years ago

Consumerism is not a measure of success.

Not unless you are disussing advertising.

Stress can lead to all kinds of self-defeating behaviour.

Remove the stress. If that means walking away from everything you own (which Jesus stated was the only way to get to heaven) then just do it.

I did it. It's liberating.

[-] 1 points by grapes (5232) 11 years ago

I do not think it is the walking away from everything that does the trick. Rather I think it is the walking towards the realization of a higher priority item that really does it.

[-] 0 points by Builder (4202) 11 years ago

Sure. Things that I simply had to have years ago mean absolutely nothing to me now that I'm free. I've also learned to recognise an impulse to buy, and pulled back from that. I give myself a cooling off period on purchases, unless it's a work thing, then I just buy it, because my time is worth money at work.

[-] 1 points by grapes (5232) 11 years ago

Once desire has been aligned with effort or tamed, freedom becomes meaningful as well as meaningless.

[-] 1 points by Builder (4202) 11 years ago

I also find that once the path ahead is clearly in focus, the universe kicks into gear, and the things you need, and the people who can help you, seem to turn up right on cue. It used to freak me out a bit.

[-] 2 points by grapes (5232) 11 years ago

It is pretty remarkable, isn't it? Perhaps it is the heightened awareness that comes with the alignment no matter if the effort was for all or for nothing. Before that, it may just be having eyes and still be blind, or see but not understand, understand but cannot connect, connect but cannot empathize, and empathize but cannot realize.

Tools - always a good investment.

[-] 1 points by Builder (4202) 11 years ago

Exactly. I just invested in a new hammer, of a better design and weight, and it made one hell of a difference. It's the little things that add up at the end of the day.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Yep - I did some construction a while back - bought a 20 ounce hammer and a tool belt - less then 30.00 bucks - made several hundred on one job. Nice weight hammer for driving 16 Penney nails.

"The things you own end up owning you".... Fight Club.

I think most of us are all guilty. Im glad to hear you did that, it would make a great article as far as your thoughts and what circumstances led up to that decision point.

[-] 0 points by Builder (4202) 11 years ago

Minutes from dying on the operating table was the reason.

You get a clearer picture of what matters when you realise life can end at any minute.

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Wow thats some powerful shit. How are you with public speaking?

[-] 0 points by Builder (4202) 11 years ago

Fine. I was a teacher for three years.

Why do you ask?

[-] 1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

It could make for some powerful speaking engagements. Thats just where my mind goes when I hear people that have had experiences like that.

[-] 0 points by richardkentgates (3269) 11 years ago

More, Bigger, Shinier, Harder. It's not really a problem with competition so much as low self-esteem and material codependency pushed by an amoral capitalist culture.

[-] -2 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Its really amazing. No one looks to the future anymore. Its all right now. Which is ironic because the ones that look long term are usually the ones that end up vastly better in the end.

[-] 0 points by grapes (5232) 11 years ago

That cliche, "the richest nation," is not true at all because the U.S. actually owes the most in the whole world. I would not call anyone being "richest" if they have the biggest credit-limit credit card and have already run it nearly to the max while they are in danger of being foreclosed on their home's mortgage (a.k.a. dead pledge). There are foreboding signs already such as "special favors," "twist and turn," "how low can you go?" "tap dancing," "are we there yet?" "oh, my ---!"

[-] -1 points by janus2 (-387) 11 years ago

hillary= fat and rich, napolitano = fat and rich, sotomayor=fat and rich, kagan= fat and rich, oprah =fat and rich

[-] 1 points by grapes (5232) 11 years ago

Are they not all nouveau riche?

[-] -2 points by janus2 (-387) 11 years ago

oprah has been fat and rich for decades.

[-] 1 points by grapes (5232) 11 years ago

I plead my ignorance.

Same thing happened in Wisconsin when they tried to oust Gov Walker. They bussed in hundreds of "rent a thugs" but look where it got them!!!!!

[+] -4 points by janus2 (-387) 11 years ago

they didnt succeed then but they were better prepared to steal ( and they did ) the 2012 elections.
