It seems to me that if we really want to effect change in the political structure, we have to flex our own muscles. According to the census bureau, there are 146,311,000 registered voters (as of 08). In a poll recently taken, 35.4% consider themselves Republican and 32.7% consider themselves Democrat, with 32% unaffiliated. If reasonable candidates can be assembled to run for all of the open Congressional seats, either as Republicans or Democrats, they should be able to win enough of the unaffiliated votes to replace the ideologues. We don't need liberal or progressive lawmakers: we need reasonable, thinking lawmakers who genuinely care about the citizens. None of that superpac money makes any difference if the people are educated enough to recognize b.s. when they hear/see/read it.
