Forum Post: URGENT - You must all join The Montreal Protest

This content is user submitted and not an official statement

This is what you've been waiting for, new wind for the Occupy movement! I invite you all the join the Montreal protests. I know you've been supporting us by banging on pots and pans, but we need you here! Write to Occupy Montreal and partner up with occupiers there. I'm sure many would be willing to house you. It's only a 6 hour drive from NYC, so you can even go and come back!

The protests have become huge and the goal is realistic and achievable. We want to overthrow the Charest (Liberal) government. This is meaningful because it is entirely possible. Some marches had upwards to 500,000 people which is 1/16 of the population of Quebec! This is big!

But why should I help Canadians?

It's called solidarity! Don't forget OWS was initially started by Adbusters and many Canadians were in NYC during the beginning of OWS. I was there!

How would overthrowing the Charest government help us?

It would show that it's possible to overthrow a government in North America! Canada is not like the Arab countries, it resembles US a lot more. This would also uplift the undecided in US who would see that overthrowing a government in a setup much like their own is doable.

Who cares about loi 78?

You do! We all do! This law infringes on our rights to protest. If it passed in Québec, US will be next. We need to take this law down right now, together, in solidarity!

Why help French people?

People are people, and French people are known to be avid protesters. We lean towards the left!

What's so special about the political situation in Canada at the moment?

In US, the Democrats are in power and they are the furthest left US citizens can hope for in their government. This reduces the worth of OWS for many. Just look at this forum, there are so many Obama supporters here.

In Canada it's the opposite! Harper who is the Prime Minster is from the party furthest right. We want him out and this fuels energy. Likewise, the Liberal party might not be furthest right in Québec (it's center), but Québecquers tend to lean very much to the left, so they perceive the Liberals as being quite to the right. They want a socialist government, namely the Parti Québecquois.

Occupy has moved to Montreal this summer, and you MUST be there. That's where the next step in our INTERNATIONAL movement is taking place. Pack your bags, it's time to do some overthrowing!

Your friend, Thrasymaque

P.S. I used a fake name so that this post would not be deleted instantly by the moderators. I think it's an important message for OWS.

P.S.S. Act on the message, not the proposer. Remember, no more logical fallacies!

P.S.S.S. Hurry, the mods will delete this message soon! Pass it on before it's dead. This is important. These are the biggest protests in Canadian history. OWS Is in Montreal right not, doing what it does best!

Yes, really. Iv'e been a friend of OWS since the beginning and an occupier in Montreal since last month.

I only attack those who hurt OWS. The conspiracy theorists and the pro-Obama camp. I haven't attacked anyone lately, "the mystery man of numbers" has and I don't know who that is. As for GypsyKing, his story is based on rumors and has no truth. I can't hack the system. I don't want to hack the system. Ask jart, ask the moderators. Don't just believe in any conspiracy theory started by shadz66! Ask for evidence!

Fight my arguments, not me the proposer. The arguments are strong, you should be in Montreal right now! For OWS. This is an international protest, and the front has moved to Montreal which is only a few hours from NYC! Fight!

BTW - It doesn't make sense to provide free advertisements for the current government (Obama) on this site, since OWS protesters fight against the current government (Obama) every day in the street!

Eh ?! LOL !! As we all know 'Mr.30+ Monikers', you are usually The Dissembler in chief but the subject of The Montreal 99% Protest Movement, is far too important for anything else and thus : Solidarity !!!

ad iudicium ...

I only attack conspiracy theorists such as yourself who promote rumors and lies, i.e. I never deleted your post, my post was shadow banned by the moderators and since yours was a reply it also disappeared. Because of you, GypsyKing believed I was doing all sorts of things I never did. Instead of checking with the moderators (easy to check the logs), he believed your conspiracy theory and decided to leave the forum. Too bad.

Nonetheless, OWS is in Montreal now, and it's time to fight! Come on over, solidarity!

BTW - While you spend your days providing free adverts on this site for the current government (Obama), OWS supporters spend their days fighting against the current government (Obama).

From the news accounts, they are mostly protesting against Bill 78. Protesting this bill alone is worth showing solidarity towards Canada. I'd hate to see any of our politicians or university leaders take such drastic measures.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/story/2012/05/26/montreal-classe-student-protests-bill-78.html

What news accounts do you have that they are tryin' to over turn the presidential election?

[-] 0 points by MarcPoivert (-19) 11 years ago

From the people on the street. The minister of Education resigned a few weeks ago, and now people are chanting for Charest to step down. They have lost confidence in him because he didn't deal appropriately with the student strike and passed this horrendous law. We need to take him out, then take Harper out who is also trying to pass all kinds of dangerous laws.

Whatever motivates you I don't care. You hate loi 78 fine. You want to overthrow Charest like many of us, fine. The important this is that you come here and protest! This is the new Occupy front lines.

Protesting is not enough. It is not a solution.

SOLIDARITY from Europe !!! We hear of well over 100,000 people on the streets of Monteal !! Vive Les Citoyens !

Awesome! Join us shadz66. Militant tourism is the new fad! Take some noise makers, buy a plane ticket, and come on over! Let's overthrow this government together!

[-] 2 points by shadz66 (19985) 11 years ago

Steady !!! Let's not overreach here !! "Militant tourism" may be ok for 'trustafarians' and plastic anarchists but the essential thing is that Citizens of Montreal, Quebec and Canada come out and express and action their Solidarity rather than an APB/Invitation to wealthy faux-radical-wannabes !

fiat lux ...

DKAtoday is against the idea of protesting on the new OWS frontline in Montreal. He's here down voting all my comments. WTF? While protesters spend their days fighting against the current government (Obama) right there in the street, he spends his days posting free adverts for the current government (Obama) right on this site. WTF?

Follow me to Montreal! We need your support! Be part of OWS front lines.

Nice touch. Some marches had upwards to 500,000 people. The French Canadians are serious in their solidarity.

The montreal protest is the real deal! We have thousands of people in the street chanting to overthrow the government! It's the big move Occupy has been waiting for! Join us! It's time to move North American politics towards the LEFT!

Awesome! Contact Occupy Montreal for help. Maybe they can house you. OWS should donate the gas money. Come to the party, many Quebecers spend half the year in Florida. Solidarity!
