Hi, I am a fellow Portland Occupier and we have a situation that I feel is urgent and needs to be announced to Occupy Wall St. There are pro-gun liberal occupy supporters that want to bring guns to the marches as a symbol of there first and second amendment rights also as a deterrent for the police. They say they notify the police first of this action.

I believe this would be most harmful to the movement and would probaly be end game. We would be laughed at by pundits and they would have a field day with the type of spin this would propagate. Also, the cops are notoriously trigger happy and would see this as a direct provocation and might fire live rounds. Then it would be war. I copied and pasted thread for you http://www.facebook.com/groups/284344344909229/314318838578446/?notif_t=like.

This is BS. I don't know who to blame yet. But I know its BS. There will be no gun march at any OWS protest. It's total BS. Probably intended to discredit the movement or 'scare down' the crowd.

the second amendment is the second amendment. You can ask them not to protest with you but you have no right to tell them they can't carry.

Personally I think it's a dumb idea that only asks for trouble.

First of all, this is completely misleading. The group are Occupy SUPPORTERS, fellow 99%ers and have even stated, as shared in the link, that they would separate themselves from the group. I understand concerns, however, it is a very dangerous thing to also stand tall on ONE right when we should be behind ALL of them. I am involved in several committees in Occupy Portland including Outreach and can assure anyone that there is nothing set in stone and no malicious intent. It is a group of people standing in solidarity, period. Furthermore, I would like to point out that the original poster of this has had no info other that what she was fed on one thread on Facebook, and should be taken with a VERY BIG grain of salt. In solidarity from Portland.

It is war now. Was posting this somewhere else, but copied it for some reason & didn't post it. Maybe this is why... Sorry for the long posts, but as you can see, censorship has started, so I have to be quick. The UN & Anglo-American, war machine is standing up. Against the people..In Europe too..They have allowed OWS to continue, to justify what they are about to do to us, & to sneak it in while everyone is looking the other way. I think they are about to make an example of OWS & show us what will happen to dissidents. Please watch for military movement heading your way. It's only a matter of time, & time is short... very short.

Mods, please keep your hands clean.. If this gets censored, whoever does it, before Jehovah my God, creator of all things, Father of My Lord & King, Jesus Christ, I tell you, the blood spilled will be on your hands... he will ask you for it back. My conscience will be clean. If I am not telling the truth, then I am foolish. but if I am truthful, you will have murdered by not telling them... It is coming...

Let's start with pitchforks, shovels, and brooms...At least we can say we're cleaning up after ourselves. LEAVE YOUR GUNS AT HOME!!!.

While I respect their right to protest their right to bear arms, common sense dictates that this can only end badly. There should be no need for more fire power than is already around every OWS support protest around the world, as there are more than enough Law abiding Police people with guns to defend against any aggressor.

Sure, there are some jerk cops out there who break the Laws as individuals and assault protestors, but the vast majority are just there doing their jobs peacefully. Why possibly provoke one of the hot head cops by even considering bringing weapons that could be viewed by them as a threat? Why even create the chance of that possibility become a probability?

Besides, while you have the right to bear arms, you also have the ability to choose not too, as well. Without an aggressor to defend yourself from that wouldn't be taken care of by one of the many Law abiding trained shooters on the Police force, how does it make sense to arm yourselves?

It seems only those who would want to provoke the Police into being violent, or simply instigate violence themselves, would be able to somehow justify packing heat to a OWS protest... and that's simply not in the spirit of the Movement. Protests should be open to protesting any injustice, and they are - one can make a sign supporting 2nd & display it proudly as they picket - but choosing to literally arm yourself to show your support, while possibly within the Rules of the City of Portland or State of Oregon, can only result in a worse outcome than choosing to leave the guns at home.. so why exercise that right in light of the situation? The situation does NOT require citizen's fire power to defend it from any lethal threat at the moment, so why potentially create one when tempers are likely to be flaring already??

No matter what yours or my Country's Military PR department tells us, Peace isn't achieved by firing bullets. This being a Peaceful movement, does not Need (more) guns. Keep 'em locked in a gun safe where they belong when you're not out hunting or target shooting.

Just because you have the Right to bear arms doesn't mean it's appropriate to do so. This is one of those times.

This is not surprising, and was to be expected. The Occupy posters, news reports, and eventually the protests themselves will become more and more violent as time goes on.
