The October 22nd Coalition (NYC) and its allies are raising our collective voices to tell Mayor elect Bill de Blasio "NO!" to his appointment of Bill Bratton, the "architect" of Stop and Frisk. His choice does NOT reflect the will of the people and we will not accept Bratton as the new police commissioner.

“I am choosing the best police leader in the United States of America,” - “Plus (he’s) someone I trust on the philosophical level. We are kindred. We share the same beliefs.” - Mayor elect Bill de Blasio.

"You have no right to show disrespect to the families who have lost their children and loved ones to police brutality." - Juanita Young, mother of Malcolm Ferguson, murdered by police in 2000

Bill de Blasio's true colors are showing after the election. His appointment of Bratton betrays all of the activists, organizers and parents of victims of police misconduct whose work he used to get to City Hall. Now it's up to the community and grassroots activists that seek fundamental changes to step up and hold de Blasio accountable--not for some future mistake, but NOW for his selection of Bratton.

Join the October 22 Coalition, the Stop Stop and Frisk Freedom Fighters, Parents and Families Against Police Brutality, other grassroots organizations and everyday citizens as we tell de Blasio that we won't stand for another Bratton regime.

We also ask that all activists and organizations involved in the movement that opposed the abuses of the NYPD, including those in Communities United for Police Reform, join us as we say NO to a 2nd Bratton regime. As the mayor-elect has shown that he is willing to capitulate to business and law enforcement, the movement needs to decide whether it will try to work with someone like Bratton or whether they will offer a strong response that makes clear we need a complete break with the past.
