Speaking to the old farts who bought their homes for as little as $20k and paying for it in 5-10 years, and then charging me 100 times as much so I have to slave away to support them for 30 years, while taking social security and medicare out of whats left of my check, after taking the lions share... Then they go buying up large quantity of open land saying they own the rest of the earth practically, and selling back pieces of it at such ridiculously prices. Share the earth already, you cant take it with you!

Let me just add, for those of you who cant see it, I see land as far as my eyes can see, undeveloped, but still owned by another man, (usually those who own lots of other land unfornately, sounds familiar like the corporations who hog the lions share of the wealth also) and they set the price so high, that noone I know can afford to buy it. (Everyone I know are spending all they make just to survive in their small lot some rich developer pitted them in like sardines, or renting.

Just open up your eyes, and look around you, soon your eyes will adjust to the truth, and the light!

Actually it was $18.5k, I was earning around $8k at the time and didn't actually pay it off until I sold it 18 years into a 30 year mortgage. So what? Minimum wage was about $2/hr, and most things had lower price tags then too.

It had appreciated in value, but I missed a real estate bubble, I got just short of two times the original price not 100 times. Either way, I don't recall holding a gun to the buyers head and forcing him to go into debt. If the price was too high the house would have sat there and I would have lowered my price. Just supply and demand. Same with all those vacant lots you see, if no one can afford them the price will come down.

Social Security may collapse before I do, again, so what, that's my problem not yours. There may be enough of us old people to vote some kind of patch for it in, maybe not. The truth of it is you're an adult living today, fix what you can, vote us to the curb if you want and can get the support. Just stop whining about how tough you have it and how unfair things are. Things are unfair for most of us, deal with it.

well i disagree with you slightly on the "noone is holding a gun to your head" because if a man sleeps in his car to save up money to buy something for his family, i myself have had people tapping on my window saying i need to move on, and god forbid i had my kids with me, cause the government would outtrump god saying, i was an unfit father for trying to live on the earth and remove them from me, "which also happened to me, but I choose to leave the details private for now." The point is a man cannot pitch a tent anywhere on Gods earth without another man saying, how dare you... You need to pay me to live here!

So the choices are live in your car or buy an overpriced home? There used to be an option for many of us to rent. Not as cheep as living in a tent or car perhaps, but not as big a burden as the home you feel you have to slave for 30 years to pay for. We do allow private property in this country, you don't have a right to just take any land you want, that isn't a new concept placed here just to hurt you, we all deal with it.

You directed your original post to people my age and have some misconceptions in it. People faced similar problems 30 or 40 years ago. Gas jumped in price around 200% in the early 1970's, inflation destroyed savings. Probably no where near as bad as what my grandparents dealt with in the Great Depression. We all have our problems, life isn't fair, the adults manage to work through the tough times, those that never matured blame someone else.

god you are such a loser. no wonder OWS attracts losers like you. And if you should thought before starting your family whether you can provide for them. It is entirely your fault. No one else's.

What truth and light? I see many people working, some unable to find work and a very few that don't want to work, just have someone else take care of them. You're stuck in the same world the rest of us are in, stop looking at what someone else has and get to work doing what you can.

Incorrect sentiment here... most Americans (I should hope) don't want someone else to pay for their home... they want to be ABLE to pay for it themselves...

Saved up for 10 years to buy my house. It was fire damaged. Worked nights and weekends fixing it. What I didn't know how to fix, I learned. 20 years later its paid off. You want it dude? You can have it. Just stop by. I'll be the guy on the front porch drinking sweet tea with my shotgun leaning against the rail. If you can make it up the front walk, the house is yours. Otherwise, kiss my ass.

dont be greedy im sure there was some 15k run down ole house you coulda bought but you wanted the one that was pretty.. thats what you paid for cause you didnt want to work on the place and yhou didnt want to live in the dirty low life neighbor hood.. those were your choices not the guy that owns the land.

[-] 1 points by freewriterguy (882) 12 years ago

id choose living in a dirty low life neighborhood over the clean rich snobby neighborhood anyday. At least Id be living with the working class, my kind of people, not the ones who form a bunch of ordinances so they can call and report you for every little thing you do on your land, like owning a chicken, or working from your home. "be ye not busy bodies involved in other men's matters, says the bible of rome" Why I cant even own a chicken or a horse unless im a millionaire under our current system. It sure would have been nice to be noah.

Freewriterguy, WTF are you talking about? Did your parents write you out of their will or something? I find your whole post, especially the comments about older people, extremely offensive. When my husband and I were in our 30's we worked literally sunup to way past sundown for two years building our house with our own two hands while living with 3 kids in an 18 x 36 trailer. Grueling back-breaking nonstop work and then many dollars for improvements over the years since then. I'll do whatever I want to with it when the time comes, thank you very much. Don't get me wrong. I count myself extremely fortunate to have even been able to do that. Gripe about corporate greed all you want; but as for "old farts" who own their homes being the issue that's kind of bizarre. We're not the ones who killed the American dream.

interesting that you mentioned the will, yes, i did not receive an inheritance, i believe reverse mortgages are a good thing, because leaving money to children furthers the elitists by saying only those who have an inheritance can afford a home because its what drove up the cost leading to the bubble burst in my opinion. I myself grew up fatherless, and had to leave my home at age 16. If someone would have shared the land with me perhaps I could have built a home with my bare hands by now. God knows it would mean less money for the banks and hopefully the government.

Well I hear you. My father left me at age six and my mother died when I was 18. We all have our stories and I empathize with yours. Rather than being bitter, I like what the other writer on here said about, do the best you can with it. And if we must be angry- be angry at the right people.

This is what OWS is all about. Americans speaking from their hearts, blind patriotism put aside.

Start out small and work your way up. Few get to buy their best house the first time.

[-] -1 points by FarIeymowat (49) 12 years ago

Are you seriously that selfish and greedy? Surely you jest.

[-] 1 points by freewriterguy (882) 12 years ago

how am i selfish and greedy, what did I ever take from another person ? Missing logic on that question.
