Forum Post: To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.

I think one of the underlying concerns people have today, aside from government criminality and the obstruction of justice, is that many people's needs aren't being met in the current system. I saw one video where people at the protest had said: "You can see this as a microsociety. It's a model for a new society. It's not a protest in the sense of being against something. It's a way to formulate something new." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwWInp75ua0) It seems that people at these protests would be open to education about how to build a society that truly meets the needs of all people and how this is not a function of government or money but of the use of science and technological innovation by the people. It could be a good place to educate about the modern phenomena of technological unemployment and post-scarcity. Outside of the profit-oriented system, machines could free people and create an abundance of resources for everyone. It would be great to see discussion about how to move towards a resource based economy (ideally before the total collapse of the monetary system) and hear global sustainability activists' ideas and speeches. Ultimately, I think everyone needs to unite and focus on figuring out how we're going to sustain ourselves and the planet in a healthy, peaceful way and present that as a solution by and for the people (without involving the corrupt government.) There could be an open forum for the revolution of people's values and ideas for improving the condition of man (leading to action), and it could perhaps start by raising awareness about the research of the Venus Project or showing the Zeitgeist films.

: ) is the solution to the sub-forum problem a different piece of software? Or does the admin just need to go in and change a few things on the existing system?

depends on the power of the initial program and the skill of the admin. a phpbb installation might be called for. I'm not going to try to make that call for the admin.

Somewhat along the same lines: when I hear people who are upset because they are jobless, I want to share that we can create our own "jobs", our own livelihoods, by trading with each other, locally and over the internet. I support myself comfortably with several small ecommerce enterprises. There are limitless possibilities. We do not have to beg the government OR the corporations for jobs & employment justice. We can begin to create our own livelihood and opt out of the current system.
To free humanity from the establishment which values the use of force, greed, and profits over people, we must unite to create a new model for a new society that makes the current establishment obsolete and then build it ourselves. We cannot "ask the mafia to solve the problem of crime." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHNDwZM_AS4) People at these protests are seeking change, and the collective consciousness must shift to the reality that we are all part of humanity, we are in this together, and we can and must change the world ourselves. The genuine open-mindedness, interest, and willingness to build something new, to unite and take the power into our own hands, is one of the greatest strengths of the people occupying Wall Street.
