Thanks. Not everyone here sees that. Good luck on your PC ills, btw...

Peace.

the message is VERY Clear klusterfunk. Just replace every mention by a politician of a place and a leader with the name of our place and our leader and it still fits perfectly.

BRAVO i wish everyone in the country could see it.

Thanks for the comment. We should try to send this viral.

I'm a former Obama suporter (and still think his jobs bill should pass), and I thought this nailed it.

I tweeted this puppy. Everyone should.

Peace.

I AM NOT MOVING - Short Film - Occupy Wall Street

[-] 1 points by klusterfunk (9) 12 years ago

It's powerful and panders to emotion, but makes the message very unclear. We can gain media attention through video of police brutality but maybe we should use that media attention to convey a message.

[-] 1 points by groobiecat2 (746) from Brattleboro, VT 12 years ago

Really? Um, no. it's a parallel construction (that's the whole "hypocrisy has its own elegant symmetry" part at the outset of the film).

It's a study in hypocrisy: It compares how the Obama administration says one thing in supporting Libyan insurgency while ignoring the abuses that are taking place in NYC. Watch it again.

[-] 1 points by klusterfunk (9) 12 years ago

Did I miss where Occupy Wall Street was like the Libyan insurgency where they were overthrowing an oppressive dictator? Obama has also supported the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Oh, and btw, yes, you did miss that. In this case, the "oppressive dictator" is an institutionalized system of inequality. But I guess you had to be there....

Wow. You really do have a literal mind. Never mind.

Good luck with funding all that.

[-] 1 points by groobiecat2 (746) from Brattleboro, VT 12 years ago

Well, thanks for reading it. I don't think it'll require much funding at all. Research has shown that people will put a lot of energy into something when they're passionate about it. As it turns out, monetary incentives are pretty limited in getting people to work harder or more efficiently.

But you probably knew that....

[-] 1 points by klusterfunk (9) 12 years ago

I mean specifically funding medicare for all and funding elections with only public donations. Some of the things mentioned are just not going to happen, they could in a perfect world. I wish this movement would focus on moving money out of Wall Street banks, that is all. A movement of money en masse would certainly hurt Wall Street may even force them into changing deregulation etc. Money can be a huge incentive. I don't believe the Government has any real power over Wall Street or the 1%. Anyways, peace. I enjoyed the video by the way I just think there needs to be reasonable and strategic movements taking place and sometimes videos like that can incite emotion that can get in the way of actually seeing a clear solution.

Medicare is one of the most efficient programs in the government. As for public donations, we should take all the bonus money from the bailed out Wall Street cretins and convert that into a government-funded campaign fund.

Besides, these are draft points; it's a starting point. I don't think all of 'em have merit--especially the Balanced Budget one. But that's just me.

This is a big movement. Everyone thinks they have the right solution. it's very easy to criticize, but much harder to create.

I think that the specifics are less important, even though that's where I'm comfortable.

I hope we can all see this as the beginning of the change that's needed. I think the talk sometimes can be reduced to this:

Did the people in #OWS cause the meltdown of the US economy or was it the fault of the current people in power (on both sides of the aisle)? We know the answer; possibly #OWS can help solve the problem--certainly can't do any worse...

Peace.

[-] 1 points by klusterfunk (9) 12 years ago

I hope #OWS can help do something I really, really do. I'm 22 and I see no future for me. Because many of the #OWS protestors are young, emotional and make idealistic yet unrealistic demands with no way to enact them, it's really hard to take seriously. You're right it's a good start. I would really like to be able to take this movement seriously.

[-] 1 points by groobiecat2 (746) from Brattleboro, VT 12 years ago

Well, me too. But dude, I'm 52. I'm successful. i used to work in Congress and I know how the government works because i've worked there. I'm exactly the kind of guy the movement needs--and so are you. This is the best chance to make change, because frankly, both parties have blown this. (Mostly the republicans, but not the point).

Once a movement gets big enough, it has to be taken seriously--because it can sway opinions.

I'm helping edit the Declaration demands (I think!) and it's chaotic, but this is history unfolding. Gird yourself and learn as much as you can. This is about you and my daughter's future. Think not of the obstacles, but of the potential.

Peace.
