Forum Post: This is a very Interesting Article

And I quote:

". . . historian Jada Thacker has written, “The Constitution was never intended to ‘provide limited government,’ and furthermore it did not do so. … This is not a matter of opinion, but of literacy. If we want to discover the truth about the scope of power granted to the federal government by the Constitution, all we have to do is read what it says.”

and further:

"Lately there has been an embarrassingly naïve call from the Tea Party to require Congress to specify in each of its bills the Constitutional authority upon which the bill is grounded. Nothing could be easier: the first and last clauses of Article I, Section 8 gives Congress black-and-white authority to make any law it so desires. Nor was this authority lost on the Founders.”

which does seem to suggest that the Supreme Court over stepped it's authority in their decision Citizens United.

The article is titled How GOP Extortion Is Rooted in Southern Slavery and I am just now enjoying the consideration that the Twitterverse is all aTwit over the idea that the GOP is racist.

This looks like fuel to the fire . . .

The relevance of this history to the present is not only that the ideological descendants of the Confederacy are now up in arms over the election and reelection of the first African-American president but that they are insisting on the slaveholders’ distortion of the Constitution, over its truly “originalist” interpretation and the plain reading of its words.

The overwhelmingly white Tea Party, with its foothold in the overwhelmingly white Republican Party, has now developed a new variation on the theory of “nullification,” asserting that the Tea Party’s Confederate-style interpretation of the Constitution must be accepted by the rest of the nation or the country will face endless political extortion.

Great article that provides some missing links in the logic behind the sociopathic nature of RepubliCon Laissez Faire, plantation politics. "Zero-sum fairness!" why do we let these nuts in government?

HC, you're such a bus stop douche nozzle. You get exactly NOTHING! Like you'd expect from an old nozzle on a dirty douche bag. You didn't even read the article, so why are you even replying to it? Trolling!

Hey, at one point I was chanting "Yes we can" like an idiot too. Of course, I was still pretty new to the scene of politics. Took about 4 years to see what a joke it is. Three years of Bush nonsense leading up to it, one year after to see everything was still on course.

Whats taking you so long?

2010!! Never Again!!

The limited Gov argument is a false one and a sideshow. The TP loves their farm subsidies & they love BIG military. What we really have is a fundamental argument of values which dictates what we as a nation think our taxes should be spent on. For a test, ask a TP supporter about taxes, then ask about military spending (in that order).
