Primordial man must have been dreadfully disappointed to awaken inside a body which bruises as easily as fruit. On the other hand, with a view toward avoiding excessive labor, he would have been grateful when he went to war that unlike a tree, a man chops down with a single stroke. Yes, the vulnerability of the human body is an essential (although highly underrated) component of the attractiveness of combat. For had we bodies of stone, men would as soon go to war as work in a quarry.
