I was watching the MSNBC show UP with Chris Hayes and they were talking about Libya and the subject that you rarely see came up--is America an Empire? Hayes was mum, event though he writes for the Nation, the two Islamic guests obviously said Yes, we are an Empire. NBC Middle East newsperson Richard Engel said, no, because we don't collonize anybody. lol.

If you look at both Tory Niall Ferguson and the late Chalmers Johnson, we are an empire, even though they both have different views on it.

It was good to see that issue discussed. The OWS movement may be softening the media to more contenscious issues.

I'm not sure empire is a good enough term - its a political agenda of expansion, colonization, and total domination. It permits no other agendas. I think what we have currently is the absolute by product of the majority of elected officials being at one point or another corporate board members - something like a Territoriality Regional Investment Deployment. We are satisfied with our land control and turned to heavy forceful investment in other countries to feed into our agenda goals of perpetuating America Corp., mostly by direct buyouts, the occasional show of force when dealing with entities not in our market. The CEOs of America Corp. learned empires fail, and decided to try and influence/buy the world, and now are getting their hand bit when calling in security to try and enforce corporate policy. America Corp. will either have to go all the way (very likely since we are in a decade long war on multiple country fronts, and that we are an intensely aggressive nation) or slink back and capitulate losses, with an eye for economic empire building again. The board's true colors are showing.

We're a failing empire.

This should be a focus for OWS, at least the money we spend on conquests. We seem to be funding every side of the wars in the middle east, and this is not cheap.

I wonder how China and India feel about our the US empire? Since they are the other superpowers, they probably feel threatened.

"because we don't collonize anybody. lol." Oh I see, having your country taken over by the Fortune 500 isn't being colonized? Fooled me.

That's what Engel said.

The only reason discussion of being an empire is being talked about, is because the empire is falling apart and making desperate attempts to keep the dollar number 1.

Ron Paul was on Meet The Press, pretty much proof that he is that radical.
