...and gun owners have a pipe dream about how never ending massacres are to be tolerated because the 2nd amendment will provide them the means to overthrow the government if it gets too out of hand for their liking.
So did the former Soviet Union, which even had known "re-education" camps and "mental rehabilitation" facilities. The fallacy not noted above was that all of these were operated or directed by people against people. When a regime has lost its legitimacy in the minds of its people, it is likely to be overthrown if the operators stand down or become unconvinced of the regime's cause.
NRA: Guns do not kill people. People kill people. Soviet citizens and Egyptian citizens swarming on tanks without losing their rapport with their armed forces were what made the relatively bloodless revolutions possible. We are looking for a velvety revolution, not a bloody one. Second Amendment remedies are similar to nuclear weaponry, to instill fear but not to be used if we can help it.
The US government is comprised of Americans; The very same Americans that are you and I. It has historically been extremely difficult for subversive power structures to implement the use of military resources against the very population who pays the taxes that provide for those resources.
Additionally, a great many of those Americans that retain firearms for defense of America are the very ones a subversive power structure would need to oppress America with. I see no need to disarm honest patriots.

Yes, 2nd amendment ...it has been a long day.
...and if they didn't do anything when the 2008 collapse brought a bailout of the rich at the expense of everyone else, they don't deserve their gun ...because they're all talk and no action.
It's an amendment they have done nothing worthwhile with in almost 200 years.
It's initial intent was to put down insurrection without a standing army.
We have one of those today, rendering the amendment obsolete from it's intention..............But don't tell them that.
