No election is ever really meaningless, no matter what anyone says.

Once again, progress is not on the GOP agenda.

Is a call to reason ever possible with the likes of FLAKESnews and the Dailymail, calling any shots at all?

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=antiscience-beliefs-jeopardize-us-democracy

Scientific discovery should never be at the whim of the profiteers.

NEVER!

It seems that postmodernism has been defined as "there is no such thing as objectivity" - a position that only some postmodernists would hold. The real destroyers of objectivity are the modernists themselves - particulary Sir Karl Popper, who reduced objectivity into mere intersubjectivity.

Intersubjectivity merely means the agreement between the experts, nerds or boffins e.g. if US scientists and politics somehow manage to agree that angels push the planets around the Sun on behalf of Jesus Christ then this becomes and remains the scientific explanation for the situation - until the experts, boffins and nerds happen to change their minds!

Popper & Co. have done this to stifle objectivity, to stifle the original thinking that can break us out of the idicy imposed by modern nonsense such as quarks, the Higgs boson and the Higgs field, this last merely being a throwback to the stagnant ether, the plenum of the Greek philosophers relative to which all objects undergo absolute motion.

12 pages of facts, put in order.

There is NOTHING in any way that can endorse modern conse(R)vatism.

Nothing, is all they have. Unless they really can bring on the end of the World.

Personally? I doubt that very much.

They just bring on ever more ignorance, and now they want to "force" it on future generations.

I've found it easy to hate any and every season since they invented Rush Limbaugh and FLAKESnews.

The lies don't stop or even lighten up anymore.

So you support one party rule? Interesting.

[-] 3 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 12 years ago

Imagine if we had taken all the money spent on war these last 12 years and put it into science?

Imagine if the two parties, instead of working FOR the banks, prosecuted them, and took the trillions and put them in science?

Imagine if all the money (bribes) the DNC and RNC has bent over and accepted was put into science?

[-] 2 points by MikeMcKeel (-109) 12 years ago

Not to promote war since I really don't like it, but money that goes into war funds a lot of science. The Internet came about from military research, and many advanced robotics also. The other big players are Nasa. A lot of science from those two institutes trickles down to the people.

[-] -1 points by Grimreaper2 (-318) 12 years ago

Very true. But now NASA is being used for Muslim Outreach ( ass kissing) and the military is being used as a social engineering experiment.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Not gonna happen with your libe(R)tarian buddies calling the shots.

The only science they want is the science that raises their profits.

Watch carefully as they dismantle the public school system.

While you call it gossip.

[-] -2 points by Grimreaper2 (-318) 12 years ago

The public school system is controlled by liberals. As are the teachers unions etc...

[-] 3 points by gsw (3420) from Woodbridge Township, NJ 12 years ago

right. liberals as they want education for all.

NEA found that 45 percent of teachers are Democrats, 28 percent are Republicans, and 27 percent have no party affiliation in 2000.

those teachers went to school six years of college at own expense. so they can do a job that doesn't give them respect. They work with everyone. No wonder they are liberals, and they want better wages for all americans.

e. According to payscale.com, teachers nationwide with less than one full year of teaching experience made an average salary of approximately $34,537 as of November 2010. Salaries go up considerably in the next several years of work. Teachers with one to three years of experience made $37,323 per year, while those that had 20 or more years of experience made $57,676 per year.

[-] -2 points by Grimreaper2 (-318) 12 years ago

And your point?

[-] 3 points by gsw (3420) from Woodbridge Township, NJ 12 years ago

no point. just some facts.

actually, the administrators and school boards that control curriculum and teaching methods, may not be liberals.

they sound rather conservative in Texas, etc.

the teacher's unions don't control. they have to struggle as a union for anything they get.

if americans would favor unions and their self-respect, they would demand unions for themselves and so that the middle class could once again have more of what they deserve.

[-] -1 points by Grimreaper2 (-318) 12 years ago

I honestly don't know what nation you are talking about but it isn't the U.S.

[-] 4 points by gsw (3420) from Woodbridge Township, NJ 12 years ago

you don't like unions?

i'm in one. don't have much use for it, sometimes. they want us to go doorbell, and phone bank, etc.for the duopoly.

they don't do much for the worker anymore either. unions have little power, in public's opinion.

unions were better in past, and gave everyone things like 8 hour work week. safe conditions, breaks, and living wage.

but it is better than not having a union, because I there is counter-balance the balance of power..

[-] -1 points by Grimreaper2 (-318) 12 years ago

I am a member of a union also. How did you get anti union from what I have posted?

[-] 2 points by gsw (3420) from Woodbridge Township, NJ 12 years ago

[-] -1 points by Grimreaper2 (0) 32 minutes ago

The public school system is controlled by liberals. As are the teachers unions etc...

I guess I could have read as pro union too.

that's why I was asking. lots of people don't like unions. they are a drag sometime, and they can sell out as well.

Here, I'll give you some twinkles to make you feel better. Now you may soon enjoy a net positive number. I only gave you one twinkle each. someone else gave you a twinlke too.

Yes, even my dear Grandma, who lived over 100 wonderful and fruitul years was a liberal, was a teacher in a 1 room school house in South Dakota, Had to chop the wood, start the fire, do the cleaning, do the teaching of all the grades.

One year she even refused to accept the wage she was offered. And held out for a raise. so she could have 8 dollars a month.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

The assholes against the schools and unions are conse(R)vative.

They would much rather shove absolute lies, like creationism down the throats of the children, than have them lean anything useful..

[-] -2 points by podman73 (-652) 12 years ago

Wow public schools there's a great example of the left wing success. You really want to put that up as what good libs are doing?

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Yes I would, especially considering the long term dismantling and discrediting being done by the "right".

It accomplished so much, before all that began.

The coupon schools? Not so much, considering all the hoopla and long term costs..

[-] 2 points by factsrfun (8342) from Phoenix, AZ 12 years ago

It is science and thought itself that is being discredited, the ideal that reason should prevail over power or money, as it were, they have created this myth that money is freedom therefore any decision that interferes with money interferes with freedom, so any action that restricts the power of money is somehow an afront to freedom everywhere. While they say education and health care are for those who can afford them, and re-enforcing that money is freedom, if you want freedom get some money. How do you do that? Cut a deal with someone who has some, trade your time/life if that's all you got and hope they are in the mood to give you a little freedom, err I mean money.

[-] 2 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 12 years ago

almost all alternative energy programs funded by the government are privately run for "profit"

[-] 2 points by NVPHIL (664) 12 years ago

I agree about scientific discovery. Science is a tool to make our lives better not to enrich a small handful of people.

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 12 years ago

it wont be long before intelligence starts piecing DNA puzzles to new create life

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

They already are.

They already have.

[-] 0 points by Grimreaper2 (-318) 12 years ago

What is "progress"?

[-] 4 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

The exact opposite of conse(R)vative, pretty much.

[-] -2 points by Grimreaper2 (-318) 12 years ago

That is not an answer. Again: what is progress. Or if you prefer: what is "progressive"?

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

The opposite of you.

"Scientific discovery should never be at the whim of the profiteers"

except when Texas Instruments invented the integrated circuit that lead to microchips

[-] 2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Sounds nice, but it's just one slice of a much larger story.

Plus it was a simultaneous invention.

http://inventors.about.com/od/istartinventions/a/intergrated_circuit.htm

[-] 0 points by marvelpym (-184) 12 years ago

n 1959 both parties applied for patents. Jack Kilby and Texas Instruments received U.S. patent #3,138,743 for miniaturized electronic circuits. Robert Noyce and the Fairchild Semiconductor Corporation received U.S. patent #2,981,877 for a silicon based integrated circuit. The two companies wisely decided to cross license their technologies after several years of legal battles, creating a global market now worth about $1 trillion a year.

[-] 2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Is that just the profit, or does it also include how much they are ripping us off for?

Keep in mind that there are DAMN few of those boards that don't include technology that was gifted to the American public by Tesla.

Gifted?

When was the last time anyone did that?

[-] 0 points by marvelpym (-184) 12 years ago

Dunno. Point was that profit motivated the scientific discovery.

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 12 years ago

Dr Salk gave away polio vaccination to the world.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Yep there's that one.

I can't think of anything else. and Tesla's gifts were many.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 12 years ago

I suppose most people are doing it for money.

Can't be surprised I guess.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Yet there were "gifts" to the American public involved in their profits that were never reciprocated.

Seems to be a lot you "dunno".

[-] -1 points by marvelpym (-184) 12 years ago

Would you say that my answer was "not optimal"?

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

There is nothing "optimal" about you, or your so called answers.
