Yes, there is a place with low taxes, few regulations, no oversight of consumer interactions. It's government spends little on education. There are few safety net programs. Medicare and Social Security were never adopted. It's every man for himself and the government does not attempt any major form of redistribution of income. Political influence can be bought easily. Religion predominates over science.

Yes, my fellow Occupiers, there is such a place.

It's called MEXICO. Ask the average Mexican citizen how it's worked out for them over the past 100 years.

Okay, then. Republicans can all go to Mexico, and Democrats should all go to Detroit (Democrat paradise). That will leave the rest of the country to the sane and non partisan.

Ironically, this would solve many of our sprawl problems.

My guess was going to be Somalia. Drat... foiled again! ;-)

[-] 2 points by eliphas8 (30) 13 years ago

Somalia is more accurate Mexico just has a sad corrupt inneficent government.

[-] 2 points by puff6962 (4052) 13 years ago

The really sad part is that most Libertarians do not understand what the world was like before the New Deal, before social security....before medicare. They are not familiar with the term, "poor house." They do not understand why so much literature of the preceding one hundred years dealt with a poor child, family, or maiden being saved by a rich prince or patron. There were largely two classes in the Gilded Age, and you didn't want to be one of them.

Can you estimate how long you will live, how much you will have to save, or whether your investments will be stable and the funds available when you're elderly? Have you ever attempted to get insurance on your own? Imagine being 67 with a history of diabetes.....get real. The number one cause of bankruptcies continues to be medical bills. Can you imagine what would happen to a generation of older Americans if medicare were not available? What would the older uninsured do when they had a heart attack? Their entire estate would have to be liquidated and Libertarian vultures would develop a cottage industry of picking through their assets in the name of freedom and capitalism.

Like all Utopian delusions, Libertarianism is a fairy tale. It should be retitled, "Corporate Anarchism." It is not a workable governmental philosophy. It has no example in the history of mankind that it can point and make it's case. It ignores any confounding realities. It is a lie told by gullible cranks who desire to sound intelligent by proposing an unworkable system. Unfortunately, there are those dumb enough to listen.

Who's fairy tale is it right now when republicans display so much greed and selfishness.

[-] 1 points by puff6962 (4052) 13 years ago

Republicans are applying Libertarian values in their economic strategies every day. They hope to underfund the government to such a degree that another fiscal crisis....think Greece....develops and all social programs are scaled back drastically.

The crisis on raising the national debt ceiling was just a warm-up.

These guys are very sinister and calculating, but libertarianism is their economic underpinning. So, you backward facing, slogan filled, troskyites are already screwing up this country.

[-] 1 points by mutualminds (129) 13 years ago

So common sense should now take presidency over greed and selfishness?

I think I heard you right.

[-] 0 points by puff6962 (4052) 13 years ago

No, good government should take precedence over esoteric theories.

A new (actually an old) definition of conservatism needs to take hold: PAY YOUR BILLS AND KEEP INFLATION LOW.

A new definition of liberalism should (as has) take/n hold: SPEND MONEY WHERE IT'S NEEDED, HELP WHERE YOU CAN, AND DON'T SPEND MONEY JUST TO MAKE YOURSELF FEEL BETTER.

The combination of these two would give you an Eisenhower Republican (marginal tax rates were over 90%) or a Bill Clinton (pay as you go, keep bond rates and inflation low).

Al Checchi is a troll then. I and many employee's at Northwest Airlines heard Al say "debt is our friend" and in doing so took on much debt and employee's bailed out the airline. Why didn't Al just spend his money where it was needed. Al just spent money to make Al feel better. Al and his greedy friends like him. Yes Al is what a person would label as a troll.

[-] 1 points by mutualminds (129) 13 years ago

"...ignores any confounding realities."

You got that right.

[-] 1 points by Orrionn (8) 13 years ago

And we call it "Progress"

[-] 1 points by Orrionn (8) 13 years ago

Imagine..... Being with your family.... huddled around a campfire.... being together..... work was hunting and providing for family.... no money was involved..... if we had a zit..... we popped it.

[-] 1 points by Orrionn (8) 13 years ago

You think our founding humans really intended there to be a division between two parties diametrically opposed..... NO..... thats why we came here from England.

[-] 1 points by puff6962 (4052) 13 years ago

We didn't come here from England.

[-] 1 points by Orrionn (8) 13 years ago

OMFG...... Really?

[-] 1 points by thebeastchasingitstail (1912) 13 years ago

But Mexico does have universal health care! Imagine that.

[-] 1 points by puff6962 (4052) 13 years ago

Ya, and they still blood-let.

[-] 1 points by thebeastchasingitstail (1912) 13 years ago

I've also heard people go there to buy medication since everything is sold over the counter, is that true?

[-] 0 points by puff6962 (4052) 13 years ago

yes and yes

[-] 1 points by barb (835) 13 years ago

America will be just like Mexico in the near future, their citizens have flooded the country.

[-] 1 points by mutualminds (129) 13 years ago

Most people don't understand who they are let alone the world.

[-] 1 points by mutualminds (129) 13 years ago

Where will the rich people be, what Caribbean Island will they be in during winter? I take it EndTheFedNow that your just a poor republican who has to go to Mexico to prevent being burned at the stake.

[-] 1 points by mutualminds (129) 13 years ago

This is about us buddy. When people start losing stuff they get upset to say the least. It's in that lost that many are forced to find their own self's as a spiritual being. The rich need to lose what they have so they too can find themselves as givers and not takers. It's time to place joy of life over materialistic things. Watch 20/20 tomorrow and Barbra will show you rich compassion of self made billionaires.

Not all rich people are butt-heads, only the loud complainers are.

[-] 1 points by Dost (315) 13 years ago

Wow. Yeah, I just live there for four months. It's a different culture but for them, material things have gotten better although the social consequences have left a huge opening for the drug cartels who control much of govt. Mexico is partly a Narco-State, the influence of money runs so far and so deep. Many members of the upper class and rising middle class are involved, the recipients of some of the revenues. It is deep.Very deep. The U.S. might even be involved. Don't laugh. They CIA has been involved with the drug trade for many, many years going back to WWII, no doubt in the Burma, Thai War Theatre. Even in Latin America. Drugs, money, the easy life: it is too tempting. The exploitation of the mass of Mestizos and Indians is embarrassing. Just like the U.S. , 20% might be wealthy or, generally well off, by Mexican standards, anyway. In Mexico, that's about 22 million, probably less. And just like U.S., a tenth of one percent owns huge amounts of wealth and it is time toe the very successive corporations: oil, banking, trade, pharmaceutical, insurance: all the rackets which pretend to run by the rules of capitalism but are favored by congress with all kinds of laws. Most laws relate to business: probably 90% or more. This is what our congressmen vote on most of the time. And they are given their info my their staff and lobbyists, who are in a very incestuous, symbiotic relationship filtered through party ideology which is just a front to defend what really goes on. It is very brutal, nasty, wretched stuff.
