We live in a time where governments and banks around the world (somebody please find a common term since they increasingly becoming the same) force austerity on their own peoples. The citizen is prescribed the sole role of consumer - happily and meaninglessly spending away while a healthy society is crumbling away left and right.

Are we helpless in all of this? Not quite - in being a consumer there is the "power of the purse" - and by using this power people can vote with their wallets to get their voices and dissent heard and have their governments and Wall Street perk up and take notice. And maybe, maybe then we will get the "change" every politician is only talking about.

This is a follow-up, and a great one, to some other threads. One was mine about 650,000 moving from banks to credit unions. You have an excellent point. Imagine 2 or 3 million people doing something the same day or week. Like closing accounts or boycotting a particular thief etc...
