Go ahead. Make $120.00 at work. Have them take a whopping 15% Social Security (7.5% right out of your paycheck and your employer has to match that 7.5%), then factor in that your employer is paying Unemployment, Workers Compensation and the 100 other taxes that they must pay which ALWAYS comes out of YOUR compensation. Then, they also take Federal Income tax (yes you might get it back, but its taken up front.) Lets say they take 10%. Then you also owe for health insurance which out of $120, lets say is $5.00. Now, you go ahead and pay your electricity bill. Its $100.00, but when you pay it, they charge a $3.60 (3.6%) 'processing fee'. On top of that how much of that is 'sales tax', 'special tax', 'federal BS tax', etc??? At LEAST another $10.00-$20.00. Then on top of that, how much of what is left is not actually FOR electricity but instead FOR 'executive compensation'?? Then on top of that, how much would that electricity cost IF the utility used 1930's technology like Thorium via LFTRs? A $5.00 ball of Thorium has enough energy in it for the LIFETIME of the average American.

You are EASILY PAYING 65%++++ in TAX either directly, through 'fees', through corruption, or through excessive executive 1%er compensation and usery bank interest profits.

This, is unacceptable. A 'processing' fee? For an automatic web based, computer controlled book entry?? COMPLETELY unreasonable as well as every single other tax/fee/etc.

We don't need an election in the US, we need a REVOLUTION and our politicians and 1%ers need to either seek asylum in other countries OR we need to force them to carry around briefcases full of fiat money and 45lb gold chains around their neck.

It is interesting how creative the electric co, water bill, internet, cable, have come up with so many different type taxes to add to your bill every month. It wasn't like this 20 years ago.

If you spend one dollar, it's hard to tell how much of it goes to pay taxes, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was more that 50%.

Let's say you go to your local store and buy a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, for a dollar. The store owner had to pay taxes on the cashier, there are property taxes for the store building, Of course the folks at the factory where the product is made all pay taxes, and all of this contributes to the price of anything you buy.

If there were NO taxes Everything would cost much less.

So, any time you make a purchase, your not really paying taxes, yourself, (except for state sales tax), but you are helping other folks pay their taxes.

how about earning more money? has anyone stopped you from doing that? I know it is easy to blame the system but how about taking some responsibility for yourself? You OWS's have this sense of entitlement it is embarrassing. If the system does not work for you move to where the system does. You will not change the system; surely not by sitting on your ass complaining.

Yes, they have stopped people from earning more money. Because of massive exportation of JOBS, jobs in America pay LESS than they did 5-10 years ago, or they do not exist AT ALL!!!! 10 years ago, gasoline was in the $1.xx , food was 50% cheaper, electricity/phone/tires/oil/ EVERYTHING was less expensive.

you only have yourself to blame. I live and work in NY assuming you live and work in America, sure, things have gotten a bit tough but they have before and will again. you need to save money for tough times. you need to plan for your future. diversify and live within your means. stop blaming everyone else for your problems. the land of opportunity is still here for you. be productive and find a way to make things work. this is the only way for change in your life Bill.

"1%ers need to either seek asylum in other countries"

Like what companies are doing to get away from the endless regulatory burdans and taxes placed on them by people who believe they never pay enough?

Quit complaining. The poorest of our poor live better than many most of the rest in the world. Be thankful for what you have. Shame on you.

Taxed to death, its sad really

[-] 1 points by smartguy2 (17) 12 years ago

The rich who are not in bed with government/regulators have far higher taxes when all 'regulations' are factored in. The ones who are in bed with government are in a small minority.

The fact is, almost EVERYONE is taxed to death, and I'm not even talking about the most evil hidden hidden tax, which is inflation created by the federal reserve.

[-] 2 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 12 years ago

damn, I was gonna go with loan interest as the most hidden

[-] -1 points by bill1102inf2 (357) 12 years ago

The RICH, after they break through $100,000 in income do not even pay Social Security taxes again until next year, even if they make $300,000,000.00.

Their % of 'tax' is so extremely low, it would be like using the $ in the leave a penny take a penny cup at the convenience store.

Talking points coming from talking heads is not a good source of information. I suggest looking at the data, which shows you are completely wrong.

[-] 0 points by bill1102inf2 (357) 12 years ago

That is the truth, its so preposterous that you do not even believe it, but if you go ahead and google it or do some research you will see that I am correct. Even 99% of the rich do not KNOW that they are not paying SS tax after 100K, but they are notl.

[-] 2 points by owsrulez (75) 12 years ago

And their earnings above that level also do not count in their earnings to calculate their SS benefits at retirement. Learn your facts.

[-] 2 points by bill1102inf2 (357) 12 years ago

SS is nothing more than a tax, as its charter is written, not some kind of savings account. People who make $300,000,000.00 do not deserve a PENNY of SS when they 'retire'

They deserve what they paid in. It's a shame that I read so many posts filled with pure ENVY.
