On April 27, 2009, President Obama announced the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). PCAST is an advisory group of the nation’s leading scientists and engineers who directly advise the President and the Executive Office of the President. PCAST makes policy recommendations in the many areas where understanding of science, technology, and innovation is key to strengthening our economy and forming policy that works for the American people.

PCAST Documents & Reports

Letter Report on Climate Change On March 22, 2013, PCAST released a letter report to the President on climate change.

Networking and Information Technology R&D On January 17, 2013, PCAST released its latest report entitled, Designing a Digital Future: Federally Funded Research and Development in Networking and Information Technology.

Agricultural Preparedness On December 7, 2012, PCAST released its report entitled "Agricultural Preparedness & the United States Agricultural Research Enterprise" in Washington, DC.

US Research Enterprise On November 30, 2012, PCAST will release a report entitled “Transformation and Opportunity: The Future of the U.S. Research Enterprise” in Washington, DC

Propelling Innovation in Drug Discovery, Development, and Evaluation On September 25, 2012, PCAST released its latest report: Report to the President on Propelling Innovation in Drug Discovery, Development, and Evaluation.

Spectrum On July 20, 2012, PCAST released its report Realizing the Full Potential of Government-Held Spectrum to Spur Economic Growth at an event at the White House:

Advanced Manufacturing On July 17, 2012, the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership Steering Committee, working within the framework of PCAST and co-chaired by Andrew Liveris of Dow Chemical and Susan Hockfield of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, outlined recommendations for spurring investment and positioning the U.S. for long-term leadership in advanced manufacturing. The Committee’s report, Capturing Domestic Competitive Advantage in Advanced Manufacturing, has been endorsed by PCAST, which is led by John P. Holdren, science and technology advisor to the President and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and Eric Lander, President of the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT.

Nanotechnology Report On April 27, PCAST released its latest Assessment of the National Nanotechnology Initiative in a report entitled “Report to the President and Congress on the Fourth Assessment of the National Nanotechnology Initiative.”

Undergraduate STEM Education Report On February 7, PCAST released “Engage to Excel: Producing One Million Additional College Graduates with Degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.” This report provides a strategy for improving STEM education during the first two years of college that we believe is responsive to both the challenges and the opportunities that this crucial stage in the STEM education pathway presents.

PCAST Report on the Intersection of the Nation’s Ecosystems and the Economy On July 22, PCAST released “Sustaining Environmental Capital: Protecting Society and the Economy.”

Advanced Manufacturing Report On June 24, PCAST released its "Report to the President on Ensuring American Leadership in Advanced Manufacturing."

Networking and Information Technology R&D Report On December 16, PCAST released a report entitled “Designing a Digital Future: Federally Funded Research and Development Networking and Information Technology."

Health Information Technology Report On December 8, PCAST released a report entitled “Realizing the Full Potential of Health Information Technology to Improve Healthcare for Americans: The Path Forward.”

Energy Technologies Report On November 29, PCAST released a “Report to the President on Accelerating the Pace of Change in Energy Technologies Through an Integrated Federal Energy Policy.”

K-12 STEM Education Report On September 15, PCAST released "Prepare and Inspire: K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Education for America’s Future."

Influenza Vaccine Report On August 19, PCAST released its "Report to the President on Reengineering the Influenza Vaccine Production Enterprise to Meet the Challenges of Pandemic Influenza."

Nanotechnology Report On March 25, PCAST released its "Report to the President and Congress on the Third Assessment of the National Nanotechnology Initiative."

H1N1 Report On August 24, 2009, the White House released PCAST's "Report to the President on U.S. Preparations for 2009-H1N1 Influenza."
