Forum Post: The Other 98% ~ Class War Exists ~ Votes Put Banksters in Jail

The Other 98%

98% of the time, when we talk about activism opportunities, we're talking about stuff other than voting.

This is the Other 2%. No matter how you cast your ballot, register before someone tries to roll back the civil rights movement, starting with your right to vote: http://nationalvoterregistrationday.org/register-to-vote

[We have the lowest Voter turnout, the highest Big$ turnout and we give our Banksters fat bonuses! Iceland has an 80-90% Voter turnout and they threw their Banksters in Prison!]

The Other 98% - Politics for the rest of us. http://other98.com/

The Other 98% is a grassroots network of concerned citizens standing against Big Money and corporate lobbyists to make our democracy work for the rest of us.

The official FB page of www.ClassWarfareExists.com,

http://www.classwarfareexists.com/#axzz27ZeB19b3

Four years after the banks crashed the economy, not one CEO or Wall Street executive has been prosecuted.

It's time for justice to be served on Wall Street - but Eric Schneiderman, the New York Attorney General appointed by President Obama to investigate the financial crisis, has been massively understaffed and outspent. His total staff is 55 investigators and attorney - about the same as an average McDonald's, and less than 10% of the number of people who investigate the S&L crisis - with trillions of dollars in potential fraud at stake.

Tell President Obama and Congress - we need justice from Wall Street: Give Schneiderman's Working Group the backup they need to put bank-sters in jail:

"we" are working on a pledge and have posted our work on the last tab: http://corporationsarenotpeople.webuda.com/1_7_VOTING-BLOC-PLEDGE-PLAN.html

Absolutely correct.
For reasons too stupid to explain, our efforts began 11 months ago but were delayed.
We wanted to "do" THIS election but time ran out. We will be doing the candidate pledge 2013-14

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

All it would really take is those candidates to sign and display the pledge and to include the announcement in any current ads they are releasing right now. As well as releasing the information for free over the internet - local chatrooms community billboards etc.

Is this an example of synchronicity or what? We were just talking about this sort of thing then I get this e-mail.

From People for the American Way:

Now is your chance to help eradicate unlimited corporate spending from elections AND win critical swing states for President Obama.

In Colorado, PFAW has succeeded with our partners in getting an initiative on the November ballot, telling Congress to pass a constitutional amendment undoing Citizens United and stop the unlimited flow of corporate and special interest money into our elections.

Polling shows that this ballot measure has the power to increase progressive turnout AND that voters are more likely to support candidates who want to stop the flood of corporate money in our elections1 -- like President Obama.

Please become one of the 2,317 newly renewed members we need to help us put boots on the ground ASAP in CO and in other swing states and mobilize activists in support of this ballot initiative and President Obama.

You and I want Big Money OUT of elections, and the polling shows that a big majority of voters are with us. Mitt Romney, meanwhile, personifies the unlimited flow of corporate money into elections and even says "corporations are people."

There's no time to lose. We need to mobilize volunteers and voters in the key battleground states, which means we need your immediate renewed support to give us the resources to do it.

In Colorado, we’re fighting Citizens United with a poll-tested ballot initiative that could make the difference for Obama in the Electoral College. We plan to expand our program to another key swing state, Virginia, and put staff on the ground there as soon as possible. In several battleground states, we’re mobilizing protest events and TV advertising timed with campaign appearances by Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan in those states -- including the debates.

But we need your help to do it. Let the Radical Right and their corporate cronies know that the voice of the People will not be silenced any more. Send your generous renewal contribution to PFAW today.

No matter how many awkward stumbles Mitt Romney makes on the campaign trail, he’s being kept afloat by his Big Money backers and the literally hundreds of millions of dollars they plan to pour into swing states on his behalf in the final weeks of the election.

I need you to stand with us now to stop Big Money and stop Romney-Ryan.

Thank you for all that you do.

Sincerely, Michael B. Keegan signature Michael Keegan, President

P.S. We need your help now in Virginia, Wisconsin, Colorado, Ohio and other states to defend the American Way for all Americans. Please join the fight and make your renewal contribution today.

1Winning in Colorado:

22% say they'd be more likely to vote if this measure is on the ballot 32% of those who didn't vote in 2010 said this measure would make them more enthusiastic about voting 44% of independents and 33% of undecideds say they'd be more likely to vote for a candidate who voted for a measure like this 76% of independent voters support the measure

Hey ZD - yep it should be a concerted effort - these candidates of the people should definitely pool their advertizing bucks and go on the attack presenting issues and policies that they support that support the people. And displaying a binding pledge would be awesome.

Me(?) - still sitting-up and taking nourishment {:-]). How bout you?

[-] 1 points by bensdad (8977) 12 years ago

"all that is required is organization and money."
I have been in contact with virtually every tossup house & senate candidate on this - directing them to the site
The candidate pledge requires AT LEAST a local presence

What is the Constitution?

"We the People" is established first priority and ultimate goal.

1%(2%) tyranny over the 99%(98%) is nowhere in it. Like term-limits are handled by voting, pledges are handled by the Constitution.

Oversight and enforcement and PARTICIPATION will handle most of our problems.

I disagree with the implications of the Citizen's United ruling but I have to point out that the Supreme Court did not 'basically say that Congress does not have the authority to set rules for elections'.

The majority said that:

If the First Amendment has any force, it prohibits Congress from fining or jailing citizens, or associations of citizens, for simply engaging in political speech.

Not such a crazy statement, right?

What this means is that the BCRA conflicts with the First Amendment in such a way that if the intent of the BCRA is to survive then it will require a constitutional amendment and not just a law passed by Congress.

And unfortunately for all of us, such a constitutional amendment would require bi-partisan (non-partisan) support, which is something that's inconceivable to many partisan extremists who are intent on obstructing any sort of consensus. (This means you, ZenDog.)

[Removed]

[-] 1 points by TechJunkie (3029) from Miami Beach, FL 12 years ago

If you disagree with the ruling then your only recourse is a constitutional amendment. Which is not attainable if you're not able to rise above your partisanship.

The money is a huge problem, but it has it's risks. Despite our national political proclivity of apathy, nihilism and disengagement, we still don't like Fat Cats buying and bribing us into the poorhouse. It induces a visceral effect of outrage. "Corporations are people" but not you 47%, 13-14% taxes on just the $Millions not stashed in Cayman Island and Swiss tax havens, Sheldon and Koch Bros blank checks, it reaches a point of critical mass that sprouts a collective mind of it's own. The Norquist pledge is outrageous, we should not copy such an un-American stunt. We just have to reinvigorate our lost American Ways. Let's start with voting the bastards out! Because if they remain, there is no reform or amendment that they won't undo or circumvent.

Thanx 'WS' for this brilliant, heartfelt and highly informative 'forum-post' and I append herewith nine hopefully useful links and one short but highly relevant article :

I particularly recommend the 'strikethedebt' ; 'occ.sec' & the Prof. Michael Hudson sites but all are good in order to get behind the veil and beyond the 'smoke and mirrors' of Modern 'High Finance' Crapitalism !!

e tenebris, lux ...

[-] 1 points by bensdad (8977) 12 years ago

I agree with most of the policies on your links
but until we FIRST get the money out of politics
we will be "pissing against the wind"

[-] 2 points by shadz66 (19985) 12 years ago

Consider : That 'just' "money out of politics" - on its own can not be done ! Thus, there will have to be frequent full frontal and flanking pincer attacks on injustice & iniquity on all its fronts & across the board, waged over battle after battle. in a long campaign - as "the struggle is hard & the struggle is long" but :

dum spiro, spero ...

[-] 2 points by bensdad (8977) 12 years ago

The ONLY way to get the money out is an amendment
The key is that a constitutional amendment is hard to do - the more we have in it.
We must do something like the Move to Amend amendment.
It would have huge public support.
BUT
lets add - ending the electoral college to the amendment
(the ONLY way to do it) -
we will get the small states that have too much power in the EC against the amendment
OTHER ISSUES
that can be passed by ordinary legislation ( 50% ) should be done that way -
AFTER we get pro-American people elected -
who are not owned by grover & shelly & koch & oil & banksters

[-] 3 points by shadz66 (19985) 12 years ago

I find myself quite moved by your residual belief in Top Down Reform & Electoral Politics :-) So, I won't piss "against the wind" or on that parade - in case there really is a 'wind blowing' and as I said, there'll have to be "attacks on injustice & iniquity on all its fronts & across the board, waged over battle after battle - in a long campaign" and we must :

Btw, Norquist - I know (yuck) & re. 'The Kochs' - they and their 'Astro-Turfing' been well exposed for ages now (eg : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTwqkl8BqSc ) but re. "shelley"? Who's that then?

per ardua ad astra ...

[-] 2 points by bensdad (8977) 12 years ago

Sheldon Adelson- Initially I thought was just another billionaire for R
BUT there is much more to the story
He made billions in gambling casinos in LasVegas & Macao
His Macao activities may have involved American felonoies
He is scared that Obama / Holder will go after him next year
He may spend a billion to try to avoid this. Rachel Maddow did a a great long, detailed piece on this a few weeks ago.

[-] 3 points by shadz66 (19985) 12 years ago

Oh !!! That "shelley" !! I get you now ! Yep, I know about him too, thus :

"AFTER we get pro-American people elected - who are not owned by grover & shelly & koch & oil & banksters"

THANK YOU!

The Key To The Realm!

Nothing NOTHING gets done without the removal of their "EMPLOYEES" !!

And that takes turnout.

Remember, also, the Bush-Cheney regime installed multitudes of Regent U christian zombies into the DOJ, permanently. Sleeper Cells.

Let's learn from Iceland, 80-90% turnout!

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Small country - still a tight knit community - they did the absolute right thing - and I think part of it was - everyone knows someone - Hey? But that does not mean that we can not do the same - we just need to do it - LOCALLY - and expand/join our groups as we go. A campaign much like Move to Amend.

[-] 1 points by WSmith (2698) from Cornelius, OR 12 years ago

All of the above!

Whatever works to end our apathy, submission and nihilism.

If little Iceland could stand up to the Too-Big-To-Fail Banks, surly we can too! But turnout is the key.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

A start a very good start is the petition that you posted - along with all of the other campaigns and protests that are happening the pressure is being applied and the heat is also beginning to rise. We are being heard and people are starting to wake up and get involved - we just gotta continue as we have been - communications and outreach.

A Word From Samuel L. Jackson for the Apathetic, Both-the-Same, Disengaged Voters

http://thehill.com/video/campaign/258927-samuel-l-jackson-tells-voters-to-wake-the-f-up-in-new-ad Samuel L. Jackson tells voters to 'wake the f--k up' in new ad By Adele Hampton - 09/27/12 09:44 AM ET Hollywood superstar Samuel L. Jackson lent his star power to the Jewish Council for Education and Research (JCER), a liberal super-PAC, in a new campaign ad that tells voters to "wake the f--k up". In a spoof of Adam Mansbach's adult-themed children's book Go the F--k to Sleep — which Jackson originally provided narration for — the action movie star hurls profanity-laced quips at unsuspecting people about the high stakes in this year's presidential election. "Sorry, my friend, but there's no time to snore," Jackson rhymes, "And out-of-touch millionaires just declared war. On schools, the environment, unions, fair pay/ We're all on our own if Romney has his way. And he's against safety nets — if you fall, tough luck/ So I strongly suggest that you wake the f--k up." The script for the online-only video was written by Mansbach. The New York City based-JCER is also behind similar political spoofs like comedian Sarah Silverman's pro-President Obama viral video. Jackson, who is an outspoken supporter of President Obama, campaigned for Democrats in 2008 and often uses Twitter to voice his political views. http://thehill.com/video/campaign/258927-samuel-l-jackson-tells-voters-to-wake-the-f-up-in-new-ad

WWFFD? — What Would the Founding Fathers Do? If Ben Franklin and Co. came back from 1776, what would they do about the corporate corruption of our democracy? The buying of our elections by Big Money? The scourge of lobbying that befouls our fair republic?

Well, they are back. And they’re sounding the alarm! They’re going forth across the land (and the newfangled inter-tubes) to raise a new citizen’s army to pass the Fair Elections Now Act, and set things right in our nation’s capital.

Help spread the word! Ask your friends, family, and fans, WWFFD? Here’s how:

House Panel to Bring Up Historic Legislation to Reduce Corporate-Financed Congressional Elections

September 16th, 2010 - 3:50pm

Washington, D.C.-The Committee on House Administration announced today that on Thursday, September 23rd it will take up and vote on the Fair Elections Now Act, legislation that would bring sweeping, historic change to our political system by putting elections back in the hands of voters. The measure is the strongest one since Watergate to advance in Congress, and a committee vote could prepare the bill for full House consideration in the next few weeks.

The legislation is being supported by a six-figure TV ad campaign that features testimony from Tea Party activists interviewed at last month's Glenn Beck rally and progressives interviewed across the country. The ads highlighting conservative voices will air on Sunday shows and on FOXNews with ads highlighting progressives and conservatives to air on MSNBC and CNN. The ads debut this Sunday on networks in Washington, DC, and can be found at www.fairelectionsnow.org/voices.

"Americans want a return to elections of, by, and for the people, not funded by corporate and special interests," said David Donnelly, campaign manager for the Campaign for Fair Elections. "We urge the Committee to vote out this historic bill, and encourage the House leadership to bring it to the floor where we have the votes to win a landmark victory for all voters. Given the voter uprising we are seeing across the country, members of Congress ought to be pass this bill immediately."

"We commend Rep. John Larson's, Rep. Chellie Pingree's and Rep. Walter Jones' leadership on Fair Elections, as well as Chairman Bob Brady and the Committee for their efforts to move the Fair Elections Now Act forward," continued Donnelly. "Americans from across the political spectrum want to put elections back in the hands of voters—and this bill would do just that."

The Fair Elections Now Act would make politicians accountable to voters instead of special interests and lobbyists. With Fair Elections, candidates can run competitive campaigns for office by relying on small donations from people back home. The legislation has the broad, bipartisan, and cross-caucus support of 165 U.S. House members, including lead sponsors Democratic Caucus Chair Rep. Larson (D-Conn.) and Rep. Jones (R-N.C.).
