I am starting the Occupy Political Party. It does not use anarchy or direct democracy, but it is a far left political party. Our tag line is - "The 99% Comes First!" We will be launching a website soon. If you want information please contact us at info@occupyparty.org
Cordially,
Gary McDougal from Boston
Is the site up yet?
put an active link please
It doesn't look like it. I checked both .org and .com and the only thing there are links to unrelated sites.
Good luck, keep us informed.
It seems like a good idea. Occupy is a movement but there's no reason why you can't use the word for a political party. If you're serious about this, best of luck.
I agree, if you want to change society, you have to get political.
I don't know how effective a third party will be. But like the tea party, it could perhaps push an established party more towards their position.
What would the platform of this party be? What do you advocate?
We advocate for all the main goals of Occupy except we use a political strategy instead of anarchy.
We want to socialize America and become a world leader in environmental care. We believe there is money to be made in the sectors of solar power and wind power. We want America to become leaders in those fields.
Our entire platform will be on our website soon.
Include Increase worker's wages, Predistribution, not Redistribution

This is exactly what needs to be done. Pay a fair wage from the get go. Pay a fair percentage of profits to the people who create the profit in the first place. This is not that difficult to comprehend or implement. It's also moral. How about a moral economy that works for the masses?
I don't think my friend minds my connecting to his pertinent article on this subject
From GypsyKing "The Insanity of Exclusion"
"One simple way of mitigating this trend is to raise wages, and yet there is this collective insanity in our society that sees raising wages as a kind of give away to the undeserving. There is a sort of enforced attitude that people are inherently unworthy of a life with dignity and that itself is actually the worst effect of this policy of economic exclusion – this view that somehow the great majority of people are simply prima fascia not worthy of a life of dignity and opportunity. It traps us all in a worldview that is both deluded, distorted and morally wrong, and that makes antagonism the fundamental principal of human relations, largely preventing us from moving beyond petty and childish infighting to finding effective solutions for the innumerable real problems confronting mankind – and therefore it represents a real threat to our very survival!
All of that seems a fairly high price to pay so that a small percentage of us can have the satisfaction of feeling superior to the majority – for that (and simple force of habit) are now the only plausable explanations for continuing an economic order that operates under the delusion of scarcity, to impose a punative and needless exclusion."

Very nice. GK was right on there. An economic system is just that, an economic system. It is created and maintained by humans. It is not something organic that grows out of the ground. Humans can set it up any way they want.
I say, we need an economic system that works for everyone, not just those at the top who skim all the profits for themselves. We are living in a society right now that has forgotten the social contract. It's a big giant fail and it will find itself in decline in due time.
Already in decline - fast heading for fail.
And, the 1% won't be around either.
Oh they will be - unless they suicide.
"Psychopaths - pretty much the walking dead as far as emotions go."
Yep. They ought to make a TV spinoff, the political walking dead. It'd be dark comedy. It'd be a hit!
I'll bet they could get appearances by mittens and the donald ( oh hell the donald would show up anywhere - just try to keep it away ).
Heheheh. That's hilarious. Mittens already has that deep sunken-eye thing going on.
And he has to pretend to laugh when he tells a joke - his eyes saying I don't know what is supposed to be funny about this - wait - I don't know what funny means....
Sounds like the mittens we've come to know and love, heheh.
It may be worse than we think. I'm thinking about making a short post about it. Apparently there's a theory we're in the midst of the sixth mass extinction event, cause largely by . . . humans (no surprise there, eh?). And it's been going on since the end of the last ice age.
WWIII - corp(se)oRATIONs against all life.
Yep. And this supposed extinction event started 10,000 years ago. What we've done in the last couple hundred years has accelerated the process. And since WWII, well . . . .
We're fuked.
Most definitely - if we do not make a major change towards health - right now - as a society/world.
Yep. Time's a lot shorter than most people think. Most citizens don't realize it and most politicians and elitists have such a short-term outlook (next quarter's profits, next year's votes) they're simply blind to it. Why do they think their bunkers are going to matter when we're seeing massive ecological collapse?
As long as they don't have to surface from their bolt hole - till they die - which I don't think they have taken fully into account - they really do not care.
I totally agree.
They have no soul.
Psychopaths - pretty much the walking dead as far as emotions go.
Good article. Great idea.
You should use another name for your party. Occupy was not meant to play into politics. Your project is nice, but please keep it separate from Occupy. No use mixing things up and confusing them more than they are.
