The survey, taken on the weekend of Oct. 15-16 as the Occupy Wall Street movement neared its one-month anniversary, also examined how Americans feel about the protest, and the majority of people indicated they didn’t know enough about the demonstrations to express an opinion. Of those surveyed, 22 percent of people said they approve of the movement’s goals, while 15 percent said they disapprove. More than six out of 10 people, 63 percent, said they “don’t know enough” about the movement to lean in either direction. Asked about the way the Occupy Wall Street protests are being conducted, 25 percent said they approved, while 20 percent said they disapproved. Again, a majority of people, 55 percent, said they didn’t know enough about the movement to express an opinion. On the whole, 26 percent of people said they support the Occupy Wall Street movement, while 19 percent said they are opposed to it. The majority of people, 52 percent, said they do not support or oppose the protest. (Politico)

I've noticed that many people I've talked are completely unaware of the situation or have just haven't been informed. I haven't seen this particular survey, but I would say the results are fairly accurate. People just don't know, or they don't care enough. I think that the major focus for all Americans would be to educate themselves, on this issue and every other. We have a voice for a reason, but if we allow ourselves to be apathetic towards universal problems then nothing will ever get accomplished.

How can the American people know when the media stations, now all owned by large corporations, are only telling the people what they want them to know. I found out about the movement watching BBC news. Because it is growing and has become global they had to talk about it. I am so scared because we have now lost Freedom of the Press. Saturday's protest was now even in the NJ Sunday paper.

the movement's got you upset, doesn't it?

[-] 1 points by mad19733 (7) from Cape May, NJ 12 years ago

Funny other survey showed that 60% of the American people supported the movement last weekend. I suppose the figures will always be lower when the 1% do the survey.

So it will be spun that the majority thinks that unpopular free speech and the right to assemble is unamerican?

~Absurd~ The people's complacency was part of the problem. Shutting up and going home is not the answer. OWS is democracy in action. Watch and learn.

Banks got Bailed Out! We got SOLD OUT!!

You cant print money on the backs of people bcz the power of the people wont slack! No more Printing, The people are winning! Inflation is a tax! Inflation is a tax!

Your Income Tax goes to Ben Bernank But the Federal Reserve is PRIVATE Bank Your Income Tax goes to Ben Bernank But the Federal Reserve is PRIVATE Bank

Ok so you are going to spew a bunch of propaganda to try to argue with numbers that state that you are a small 26%. Clearly America doesn't care about your propaganda.

[-] 1 points by MonetizingDiscontent (1257) 12 years ago

So protest the protesters or something. Its their right. You choose not to exorcise that right. fine. They are.

Allow them the same choice you have enjoyed. To protest or not.

[-] 1 points by NotOccupying (94) 12 years ago

You have a right to protest. You do not have a right to build communes in city parks, deficate on the ground, litter, and cost cities millions of dollars.

[-] 1 points by MonetizingDiscontent (1257) 12 years ago

I think it would very moral to allow structures like urinals in this case. I suggest telling that to the Mayor. And tents, so people don't fall to hypothermia.

[-] 1 points by NotOccupying (94) 12 years ago

I think it would be very moral to tell you all to go home and sleep in your beds at night and come back in the morning. You are choosing to fall ill to hypothermia if you do and you are choosing to create a state of illness for the community.

[-] 1 points by MonetizingDiscontent (1257) 12 years ago

We make treaties to temporarily alter laws all the time with other countries in times of great need. But we cant do this for our own? Not even for urinals? This movement has a long road ahead doesn't it.

[-] 1 points by NotOccupying (94) 12 years ago

Great need implies there was a natural disaster or pandemic or something of that sort. A bunch of whiney people wanting to build a commune in a city park is not a time of great need. It is perfectly reasonable for the city to tell you to go home and sleep and piss in your own house and come back in the morning.

[-] 1 points by MonetizingDiscontent (1257) 12 years ago

Tell that to those people down there!

[-] 1 points by NotOccupying (94) 12 years ago

Thats what I'm trying to do but you are all too adolescent in your thinking to understand that.

[-] 1 points by MonetizingDiscontent (1257) 12 years ago

sheesh, im sorry that you are so inconvenienced, sincerely. Peace.

[-] 1 points by antnonymous (1) 12 years ago

Hrm, I guess they were asking the wrong people, or maybe thy were asking the right people. It all depends on how they wanted it to slant, eh?

[-] 1 points by NotOccupying (94) 12 years ago

Or you are all in denial of the fact that no one agrees with you or cares about your cause. So few in fact that they can be fit into a park.

[-] 1 points by mad19733 (7) from Cape May, NJ 12 years ago

The American people care about the cause. I was wondering what took the movement so long to get started. Protesting gave black's and women equal rights and it also stopped the war in Viet Nam. It will now give us back our lives

[-] 1 points by NotOccupying (94) 12 years ago

You aren't even protesting for anything. None of you even know what you want. The women's movement was protesting for women's rights. The civil rights movement was protesting for civil rights. You are all so busy building communes in parks that you haven't bothered to make up your mind what it is that you are trying to accomplish. Why should anyone see you on par with those movements when you aren't even trying to accomplish anything. You are a lot closer to being on par with the communes of the 60's right now that with a civil rights movement.

[-] 1 points by mad19733 (7) from Cape May, NJ 12 years ago

We all know the problem except for you. We bailed out the banks and the middle class paid for it. In NJ the government took the money out of the pension system and we are now forced to pay it back. We want the 1% to pay equal taxes and stop all the loop holes they are given. There will always be the rich and that is okay but they got greedy at the expense of the middle class. Occupy is no where near the communes of the 60's, they only cared about free love. Just so you know I am a 58 year old middle class professional and I do not smoke pot as some spouter reported. I just know this country has fallen apart and I don't want to see that happen.

sorry the 99% concept is outside your grasp. ows is not saying 99% of the county is crammed in time square. stop being a B!tch.

[-] 1 points by NotOccupying (94) 12 years ago

No but you claim to speak for 99% of the country and I'm tying to make it clear to you that you don't. You only speak for 26% of us. I'm proud to be in the 74% that you don't speak for.

[-] 1 points by April (3196) 12 years ago

99% of the population do not have their fair and equal representation in government. I'm not speaking for you.
I'm just pointing out the simple truth.

[-] 0 points by RichardGates (1529) 12 years ago

again you show your ignorance. the 99% means we are part of the 99% of people that have no voice because we are spoken over by lobby groups. the 99% that only own 20% of the country. it stems from a financial report provided by the government. so if you continue to act like an idiot, i will continue to let you know.
