Forum Post: The Kochtopus Reaches Out

As if all the rest of their shady "charities" weren't bad enough?

Here's The Mont Pelerin Society, denying global warming for the good of industry!

"It’s known as the Kochtopus – the extensive network of think tanks, institutes, university departments, political funding arms and “grassroots” activist groups funded by oil billionaires Charles and David Koch. The multi-tentacled network has pumped tens of millions of dollars into groups that deny the risks of human-caused climate change.

But if it is Koch cash that helps fuel these groups, then what is it that fuels the Koch brothers themselves beyond the obvious financial interest?

As DeSmogBlog has revealed, Charles Koch is a long-standing member of the Mont Pelerin Society (MPS) – a global group of industrialists, academics and economists who share the “neoliberal” ideology of limiting government control.

If the Koch network has many groups dangling from its tentacles, then Charles Koch’s membership with the Mont Pelerin Society provides a window into the ideological heart of the Kochtopus."

The hockey stick still lives.

But don't worry, the Koch's are there to convince it doesn't.

After all, in libe(R)topia, money trumps science too.

The wonders of TV?

We can render rivers and lakes un-potable.

We can disappear who species in oceans and on land.

But we can't possibly affect the atmosphere, because the Koch's ( and their 1% friends) paid big money to tell us we can't.

The news I have been seeing today paints a bleak picture for a KXL refusal by government - pretty much what I expected. Unless the people keep turning up the pressure - those assholes in Washington are gonna approve ALL THINGS CORP(SE)oRAT.

KXL indecision will likely drag on past the 2014 election to maximize corporate interest in the election results. That will create more pre-election corporate donations.

KXL is reduced to a zombie through delays. Yay! The plutocratic tactic of delaying financial re-regulation and ACA health insurance reform is generally applicable. We all can learn some from the Retardicans, can't we?

This particular article was provided by Occupy.

You can expect little comment from those that constantly claim to be "involved".

I find that strange. Do you?

I found this site the other day Zen.

It will help us keep an eye on the Greenland ice sheets.

That's OK, you might get to swim in it instead.

It's like don't pay attention to climate change

pay attention to climate change deniers

I pay attention to both.

But those guy provide me endless malfeasance.

I say they are Retardicans, the biggest Rats of North America. Yep, they will cut down your trees and turn your backyard into their swimming pool alright.

The latest.

Are any of these operating in your community?

Most of these are in my community:

"A prostate cancer survivor, Mr. Koch has donated $100 million as prime contributor for the David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at MIT. Other support for medical and cancer research includes:

$100 million to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital to help build the David H. Koch Center, a new ambulatory care center

$20 million to Johns Hopkins University for the David H. Koch Cancer Research Center

$30 million to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City

$25 million to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for the David H. Koch Center for Applied Research of Genitourinary Cancers

$15 million to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center

$25 million to The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City

$10 million to Jaffe Food Allergy Institute at the Mount Sinai Medical Center to create the David H. and Julia Koch Research Program in Food Allergy Therapeutics"

How much have you given?

[-] -2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 6 years ago

Most of my adult life. Something that's none of your business.

Unlike the good brothers though, I don't have need of a PR campaign to cover up the much more massive amount of money I spend to fuck things up, because I don't spend upward of a half a billion a year to do so.

A cost that puts their less profitable charity contributions, that you have posted, to shame.

What part of most of my life are you having problems understanding?

You want to mail me the fat check, I'll look into the PR firm. Maybe.

What part of around half a billion a year they spend on influence peddling are you misunderstanding?

Gray area is right!

They're so good at PR you completely missed it.
