"THE GROUND TRUTH" : The Human Cost Of War.

Sometimes the greatest act of courage is to tell the truth ...

In the opening scenes of Patricia Foulkrod's powerful documentary, we're introduced to a number of young soldiers who speak candidly and powerfully about the motivations that led them to join the military. As their stories unfold, we hear their surprised reactions to boot camp and combat training as they were taught to dehumanize their enemy, to "kill hadjis and ragheads."

"The Ground Truth" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ground_Truth ) - is a documentary film, that should be watched by everyone who has a friend, relative or loved one who's served - or is about to serve - in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This should be required viewing by everyone prior to high school graduation. I realize that many see enlistment in the armed sevices as a way forward toward a career path, but the full cost of such a decision needs to be known. Actual combat isn't anything like the "video game" version. Thanks for posting this link, shadz.

For a full education and a shot at making a sound life decision.

Thanks for the video, shadz66. It's nice to hear the soldiers speaking for themselves.

Some quotes from this very interesting documentary:

"To us there really was no mission. The mission was just get this crap over with and go home."

"I've been on over 150 combat missions and on most of those missions, they had no purpose."

"I’m disabled for life."

"I go from being a hero to a monster."

War is truly ugly. This is what is rarely shown. By the media or in movies. It is all represented as blood and guts glory. This is a very bad twisting of the truth.

Thanks for posting something that shows a bit of the reality.

Thanks for the links. When I was in school ( middle school at the time ) I was taught about all of the wars reasons for and what not, but I had to find historic film records for myself they were not shown in class. I saw captured Nazi war footage of the death camps, I saw media footage from combat journalists of the dead along the roadways of a march, the dead of a town blown down by heavy weapons and bombs.

These graphic images - I had to find.

This is not proper education to lead to a more peaceful world.
