Forum Post: The GOP must not win the presidency!

Posted 12 years ago on Oct. 20, 2011, 2:37 p.m. EST by flamingliberal (138)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

If the GOP wins the presidency they are going to austerity us to hell. They dont understand that taxes are the oil that keep the American engine running for all. I guess when they are making millions and billions selling the American dream in China, you just dont give a fuck about Americans anymore. Through out history it is taxes that have saved America from becoming 3rd world Mexico. Ronald Reagan, Bush Sr., and Bill Clinton new this, that is why they raised taxes and you saw booms in economic growth. The GOP have planned to not pay taxes and spend the Clinton surplus in order to bankrupt the government and privitize the Nation. Gaining complete control of Government and creating a corporate monarchy. The GOP is the enemy a greater threat then the Democrats. Don't get me wrong im for replacing both, but in the meantime lets keep the devil at bay.

Obama isnt any better than these republicans. Whats the difference? Obama is pushing austerity just like the rest of them. If anything a republican victory may galvinize the public into the kind of a revolt we need to take this country back. Then again that idea could totally back fire aswell either way its lose lose at the balot box. My efforts will be with this movement and helping to build it rather than voting in a pointless election.

[-] 1 points by flamingliberal (138) 12 years ago

we need to replace senators from both parties. In the meantime, we can vote for the lesser of 2 evils.

[-] 2 points by misunderstood101 (68) from Los Angeles, CA 12 years ago

republicans won't need to win...just deny Obama any bill he wants passed then blame him for not doing enough

[-] 2 points by pissedoffconstructionworker (602) 12 years ago

I've always said---it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

OWS is just the canary in the coal mine.

In my opinion, not until the GOP fully owns this fucked up system can we move forward.

[-] 2 points by Nicolas (258) from Québec, QC 12 years ago

You have no need to concern yourselves with the petty games of the Republicans and the Democrats. Neither will give you victory. The GOP is not the enemy. The GOP is a distraction, a mere part of a system that no longer works.

Wether they win or loose, you must carry on. You need neither of the parties to lend you strength, you are greater and stronger than both of them. You will make your victory by yourselves.

And we, around the world, are behind you.

[-] 2 points by HitGirl (2263) 12 years ago

The GOP represents the top 1%. I think most people know that.

[-] 2 points by ronimacarroni (1089) 12 years ago

The GOP has destroyed this country to push their political agenda.

SCREW THEM.

[-] 2 points by Yepper (277) 12 years ago

Republicans were in control from 2000-2006 before the Democrats took over congress in 2007. In 2006, the final year under President Bush and a Republican Congress, the unemployment rate was 4.6%. Today, under Obama and a Democrat congress, the unemployment rate is 8.9% (according to the Federal Government - but 16% according to Gallup). Under Obama & the Democrats, poverty has reached its highest level since 1959. The numbers don't lie. The failed economic policies of Democrats have been destroying lives, wrecking our economy & shattering the American dream since the Democrats took over congress in 2007. The before & after statistics prove it.

A brief history lesson: 1977: Jimmy Carter (D) signs the Community Reinvestment Act, guaranteeing homes loans to low-income families. 1999: Bill Clinton (D) puts the CRA on steroids by pushing Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac (F&F) to increase the number of sub-prime loans (owning a home is now a 'right'.). 1999 (September): New York Times publishes an article, 'Fannie Mae Eases Credit To Aid Mortgage Lending', which warned of the coming crisis due to lax lending policies of the Clinton (D) administration. 2003: White House calls Fannie and Freddie a "systemic risk". The Bush (R) administration pushes Congress to enact new regulations. 2003: Barney Frank (D) says F&F are "not in a crisis" and bashes Republicans for crying wolf and calls F&F "Financially Sound" Democrats block Republican sponsored regulation legislation. 2005: Fed Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan voices warning over F&F accounting "We are placing the total financial system of the future at a substantial risk" 2005: Sen Charles Schumer (D) says "I think F & F over the years have done an incredibly good job and are an intrinsic part of making America the best-housed people in the world.". 2006: John McCain (R) again calls for reform of the regulatory structure that governs F&F. 2006: Democrats again block reform legislation. 2008: Housing market collapses: Democrats blame the Republicans.

Obviously the Republicans aren't free of guilt concerning the cause of this crisis because they didn't try hard enough to prevent it and in some cases allowed it to happen (one of the reasons conservatives and independents disliked Bush by the way and one of the reasons that many of those votes went to Obama as a 'protest' against Bush's liberal tendencies). But as can plainly be seen the Democrats hold the lion's share of blame for the economic melt down we're currently enjoying.

How can it be the 'fault' of the Republicans when the democrats are the ones that caused the current recession/depression and have been in complete control of the purse strings of the country from 2007 - 2011? Only in the mind of the socialist propaganda machine can it be 'Bush's fault' when 90% of the blame rests squarely on the shoulders of the democrat party.

Seems like it's CLEARLY the democrats that are the ones doing this to us...and to a WAY lesser degree, the Republicans. Maybe Obozo misspoke and he actually meant the democrats want to make the U.S. a third world nation

[-] 2 points by Kulafarmer2 (118) 12 years ago

You really believe that 8 years of Republican rule and 2 wars have nothing to do with the situation today, you really think the blame rests on Mr Obama even though he had to walk into a bailout that was already being designed before he even won the election? God save us all if this is how people think.

[-] 1 points by Yepper (277) 12 years ago

Take a look at the wars. They were BIPARTSIAN votes and approved overwhelmingly by both parties. Obama promised to end them. Instead he doubled Afghanistan adn started yet another. At least Bush went to Congress and got a vote. Obama's Lybia did not. Now we go to Unganda? Where was the vote by Congress?

[-] 2 points by flamingliberal (138) 12 years ago

i can trace this ponzi scheme back to the 1800's my friend, it doesnt change the fact that deregulation under bush jr allowed for the wallstreet ponzi scheme to loot 20% of the nations accumilated wealth.

[-] 0 points by KnowledgeableFellow (471) 12 years ago

you use the word loot, as if they stole the wealth. The wealth sure as hell isn't on wall street, they have lost staggering amounts of money. So, your basic premise doesn't hold up.

[-] 1 points by flamingliberal (138) 12 years ago

20% sir, was looted.

[-] 0 points by KnowledgeableFellow (471) 12 years ago

How did you come up with the 20%?

[-] 1 points by flamingliberal (138) 12 years ago

economist.

[-] 0 points by NachoCheese (268) 12 years ago

"...deregulation under bush jr allowed..."

Did you simply chose to ignore all of the details listed in that comment, or is it that the facts are just discomforting to you?

What about Barney Frank? Does he bear culpability in the deregulation fiasco?

How about Chris Dodd? Think his role should be ignored? What about his "sweet heart" mortgage deal and the others that were part of the “Friends of Angelo”? I guess that little detail doesn't matter huh?

Repeat the silly "it's Bush's fault" sound bite all you want, but the facts are there whether you chose to ignore them or not.

[-] 0 points by KnowledgeableFellow (471) 12 years ago

I have been referencing those same facts and timeline for some time, just not in as a concise way as you did. May I copy and paste?

This is one of my favorites talks about the Democratic Plantations. $14,000,000,000,000 (fourteen million million) plus $1,600,000,000,000 added each year. We currently can not pay the interest on this money with our tax revenue. Taking all of the money, not taxing all of the money, of those making over $250,000 per year does not fill the gap. The clear implication, taxes do not do the trick so "taxing the rich" is nothing but a Democratic buzz word to incite support. We must stop spending and that means some are going to suffer, some. If we do not control this insanity, we all will suffer, ALL. Are you aware that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of wealthy Americans making contingency plans to leave America if this thing blows up? No? It is true. Are you aware that millions of Americans are making plans to unite for mutual protection if this thing blows up? No? Well, it is true also. On the verge of collapse and the damned Democrats are still name calling, finger pointing, twisting words, lying and any thing else they can do to further a failing ideology. No? Read:

  • The ten poorest cities and percentage of population below the poverty level:
  • Detroit , MI 32.5%
  • Buffalo , NY 29.9%
  • Cincinnati , OH 27.8%
  • Cleveland , OH 27.0%
  • Miami , FL 26.9%
  • St. Louis , MO 26.8%
  • Chicago, Ill. 26.4%
  • Milwaukee , WI 26.2%
  • Philadelphia , PA 25.1%
  • Newark , NJ 24.2% U.S. Census Bureau, 2010 What are the common threads? Democrats and unions Detroit, MI (1st on the poverty rate list) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1961. Buffalo, NY (2nd) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1954. Cincinnati , OH (3rd) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1984. Cleveland , OH (4th) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1989. Miami, FL (5th) has never had a Republican mayor until now and he was recalled St. Louis , MO (6th) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1949. Chicago, Ill (7th) has never had a Republican mayor. Milwaukee , WI (8th) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1908. Philadelphia , PA (9th) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1952. Newark , NJ (10th) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1907.
  • In the history of our federal government: 5 Representatives have been expelled. All 5 were Democrats. 14 Senators have been expelled. All 14 were Democrats. 21 Representatives censured. 16 Democrats, 5 Republicans. 7 Senators have been censured. 4 were Democrats, 3 were Republican. 2 Presidents have been impeached. Both were Democrats. The troubling facts: 80% Democrat offenders, 20% Republican A ten year old child can look at the facts above and see the common threads. The nation is next if this insanity is not stopped, now and forever
[-] 2 points by tr289 (916) from Chicago, IL 12 years ago

I don't think it matters much who wins. Washington represents money and money only. If you don't have any your not represented.

[-] 2 points by flamingliberal (138) 12 years ago

thats why we should vote out all the corporate bought senators asap.

[-] 1 points by tr289 (916) from Chicago, IL 12 years ago

I would have to agree =)

[-] 2 points by SociopathsNightmare (5) 12 years ago

Obama, if you want my vote, you must:

•break down the 20 biggest banks

•fire Tim Geithner and Eric Holder

•demand Ben Bernanke's resignation And replace them with people to enforce the law for the 99%

As a collective we have power over the next term. Let's see this on more placards!

[-] 1 points by vega57th (3) from New York, NY 12 years ago

agreed, the GOP just doesn't get it. What they fail to understand that the tax code was fine and kept the GDP low during the Clinton Era. With that tax system people we able to find job and therefore more people paid taxes. Right now finding a job is like winning the lottery just because of the Bush Tax system. See the guy who threw that shoe at him had the right idea.

[-] 1 points by BillinNY (15) from New York, NY 12 years ago

The Occupy Wall St. movement should be in DC and primarily geared toward the Republican Congress, the people truly responsible for the destruction of America. Here is a history of economic disasters, intentionally and repeatedly caused by republican politicians who protect Wall St Execs and Corporate criminals.

1 - Recession of 2008 George W. Bush (R) Greatest downturn since 1929, blamed on lack of regulation of financial markets and collapse of credit markets.

2 - Recession of 2001 George W. Bush (R) Began in April of 2001, marked the beginning of greatest deficit spending in all of recorded human history.

3 - Recession of 1990-1991 George H.W. Bush (R) Deregulation of Savings and Loan industry.

4 - Recession of 1981-1982 Ronald Reagan (R) Massive deficit spending/deregulation of markets.

5 - Recession of 1973-1975 Richard M Nixon (R) OPEC's increase in oil prices and massive spending in the escalation of war in Vietnam led to stagflation, the second economic crash of Nixon's administration.

6 - Recession of 1969-1970 Richard M. Nixon (R) Credited to Nixon's escalation of and massive spending.

7 - Recession of 1960 -1961 Dwight D. Eisenhower (R) Noted for high unemployment, low GDP, high inflation. JFK ended the recession by stimulating the economy 10 days after taking office.

8 - Recession of 1957-1958 Dwight D. Eisenhower (R) Eisenhower achieved the dubious distinction of achieving a second economic downturn on his watch, a record later matched by Richard M. Nixon, and George W. Bush.

9 - Recession of 1953 Dwight D. Eisenhower (R) Increased outlays to National defense and restrictive credit policies blamed for this downturn.

10 - The Great Depression of 1929 Herbert Hoover (R) Lasted for 10 years- Blamed on Hoover's economic policy and lack of regulation of financial markets.

OCCUPY DC......

Your mistake is to get all of your information from one source. Obviously, your blather was authored by a Democrat. I'll give you a hint......don't believe what Joe Biden tells you....it's wrong.

[-] 1 points by BillinNY (15) from New York, NY 12 years ago

I deal in facts only, Republican Economic and Political Policies have destroyed this country and anyone that supports Republicans and their policies are a participant in the destruction of America and the world. This crap has gone on far, far, far too long. Democrat's have put in place programs that have protected young and especially the elderly and Republicans are always trying to find a way to dissolve these very helpful programs that keep people alive. If Republicans got their way, many more of us would be dead.

[-] 1 points by phasing (72) 12 years ago

All of you willing to argue Republican or Democrat are uselessly wasting the rest of our time and exposing yourself as idiots, don't you get it yet... there is no difference this argument is proof, wake up

[-] 1 points by misunderstood101 (68) from Los Angeles, CA 12 years ago

the republicans don't need to win....just block every move that Obama makes and have him take all the blame

[-] 1 points by gawdoftruth (3698) from Santa Barbara, CA 12 years ago

agreed, the people to win the presidency should be the best facilitators found inside of the OWS core group.

Even liberal ideas can be profitable for corporations. Even former HUD secretary Gov. Cuomo taught himself how to turn a government job into an extremely lucrative career as a corporate lawyer for Island Capital LLC. He made millions working for his boss Andrew Farkas by setting up the first securitization market in Dubai.

Mitt Romney is such a robot I'd be stunned if he could win. Many will hold their noses and give Barack a second try.

Jeff Immelt and GE got $126 MILLION stimulus dollars despite making over $6 BILLION profit and paying ZERO TAXES at the same time. BaROKE Obumbler's $852 STIMULUS bill to create JOBS and start SHOVEL READY PROJECTS turns out to be a SLUSH FUND FOR CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTORS LIKE SOLYNDRA, GE, JEFF DOERR and STEVE WESTLY, other DONORS, fictitious zip codes,etc.. Obumbler blew $852 BILLION, NOW HE WANTS $450 BILLION MORE---SHOW US THE MONEY, WHAT DID YOU DO WITH THE $852 BILLION?? Criminals always return to scene of the crime, Obumbler's BACK TO STEAL MORE MONEY FROM TAXPAYERS! Millions went to foreign banks, $529 MILLION went to Finland to build hybrid cars, MILLIONS went to Hezbollah, MILLIONS TO CRONIES. The same type of CRONIES are on his JOBS BOARD! All we'll get from them is more LIES, DECEIT, FRAUD!

If the GOP wins, god help this nation. We will turn 3rd world over the course of 4 years if they win.

[-] 1 points by Yepper (277) 12 years ago

Whoops too late OBama already has us there.

[-] 1 points by OneVoiceInMany (91) 12 years ago

Obama isn't helping much, but at least he's trying. Unlike the current GOP which is to just vote down anything good or bad to make Obama look bad. Honestly the two party system is a shame and we all know it, but if the choice comes down to the turd sandwich and the giant douche again, well I'm going with the douche.

[-] 0 points by Yepper (277) 12 years ago

I wish Obama was trying but he is merely stealing as much as he can for his cronies and the Gov Union pension funds which are unfunded.

[-] 1 points by flamingliberal (138) 12 years ago

just look at GREECE, the austerity measures there have destroyed the middle andl lower classes. That is what the GOP wants to do to keep total government power.

[-] 0 points by HearMeOut (7) 12 years ago

I hope you're not serious, because if you are, you're highly mistaken. The GOP supports limiting the size of government. The democrats have increased gov't into the bloated leviathan it is today. The problems in greece were caused by leftist socialist leaders implementing their socialist policies.

[-] 2 points by flamingliberal (138) 12 years ago

wrong again, we had a surplus that the GOP blew on war to loot the tax dollars to their cronie defense companies. That andt the fact that bush jr. the dumbass was not taxing anybody to pay for the wars or his b/s policies.

[-] 0 points by number2 (914) 12 years ago

I'm no fan of the GOP. But I think that productivity, rather than taxes, is the oil that keeps the economy running. You have to have a healthy gross national product, for there to be a decent revenue generation. We just can't all work for the government. If we try then we will be 3rd world. Actually we are trying and look at our debt.

[-] 2 points by flamingliberal (138) 12 years ago

historically the answer is no, taxes sir, taxes keep us afloat as u will soon find out.

[-] 1 points by number2 (914) 12 years ago

How do you figure? You can't tax my income if I don't have a job and you can't tax a sale if I can't afford to buy. Then that money can't go to the government to be recycled and paid to the public sector. Government plays an important role but it can't do anything but spend and bankrupt the country with out production from the private sector.

[-] 2 points by flamingliberal (138) 12 years ago

we have productivity, its just happening in China.

[-] 1 points by number2 (914) 12 years ago

Snort that economic cocaine until we OD, baby! Take it to the limit!

[-] 0 points by guru401 (228) 12 years ago

You know the reason why austerity will be needed...it's because people like Obama have run our debt to 100% of GDP while kissing the asses of the big banks...and now the people will bear the brunt of it. Same thing happened in Greece...government with out of control spending refuses to make the banks accept any losses.

Bill Clinton signed the repeal of Glass-Stegall and also signed NAFTA. Open your eyes. Clinton sucked.

[-] 2 points by MonetizingDiscontent (1257) 12 years ago

After Bush-Obama there is no excuse. Anyone who thinks either a political party will save them, and look to them for the answers to the problems they created is just ridiculous, and deserve what they get. The PEOPLE will save the people.

Reign in the private institution that federal reserve is, the same private institution receiving federal taxes directly from citizens. Demand a -FULL- audit of the private Federal Reserve, and reinstate the Glass Steagall Act.

And maybe even support a few of these bills

H.R. 2768 (Cancelation of Public Debt to Federal Reserve)

H.R. 1098 (Free Competition in Currency Act)

S 202 (Senate Federal Reserve Transpanancy Act)

H.R. 1496 (Federal Reserve Transparancy Act)

[-] 1 points by guru401 (228) 12 years ago

flamingliberal,

You're being ridiculous dude. There was no income tax for most of American history, and Bill Clinton is not responsible for the prosperity of the 1990s and I can't even begin to tell you how much intellectual development the Democratic Party would make overnight if it would just stop telling itself that a President can single-handedly steer a $14 trillion economy.

Besides, a President Romney would be great for business in this country.

[-] 1 points by flamingliberal (138) 12 years ago

yeah like destroying the EPA would be great and poisoning our water supply especially because we dont have healthcare for all those that would get cancer from the end result.

[-] -1 points by Frankie (733) 12 years ago

Exactly right.

Largely, Clinton just happened to be there at the time that we had the all of the baby boomers in the prime of their careers and buying/savings cycles, big productivity improvements and new business expansion from computers and automation across a wide range of businesses, huge expansion in investment with new 401Ks, the dot.com boom, etc., all happening at the same time.

He did do some things policy-wise to help that along in some ways but mostly was just along for the ride. A President can help or hurt to some degree but clearly cannot contol things other than at the margins.

[-] 2 points by flamingliberal (138) 12 years ago

wrong all of you bush sr. had raised taxes and became a 1 term president, goes to show how much u guys know.
