Forum Post: The Force Behind Bills To Lower Wages and Suppress Workers’ Rights? You Guessed It: ALEC

Posted 11 years ago on July 30, 2013, 7:38 a.m. EST by GirlFriday (17435)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Other high-profile ALEC fights include battles over “paycheck protection” in Alabama, Arizona, Florida, and Missouri. In 2012, Californians battled an ALEC-style “paycheck protection” bill, disguised as campaign finance reform. Prop 32 was defeated at the polls in November 2012, but not until millions had been spent on both sides. Opponents were right to be worried. New numbers from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel show that Wisconsin's Act 10, which crippled unions' ability to negotiate for better pay and benefits, cut union membership in half and forced workers to pay thousands more in benefits.

Of course, these shmucks don't want talk about this. http://inthesetimes.com/article/15355/special_report_the_alec_fueled_race_to_the_bottom_in_wages_and_workers_righ/

In compliment:

Click Here to Tell Lawmakers to Ditch ALEC!

The voice of corporate special interests in state legislatures, ALEC, is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Help crash the party!

Tell state legislators to say NO to ALEC!

The time is NOW to ramp up our efforts against the right-wing American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC)!

Please take a moment to sign our petition now to state legislators -- both ALEC members and nonmembers alike -- telling them to Say No to ALEC.

Next week, ALEC will host its annual conference in Chicago … but this is not just their regular gathering. It’s ALEC’s 40th anniversary, and they’ll be marking four decades of success as a front group for the Radical Right and corporate special interests with plenty of celebrating.

We’ll be there to crash the party.

People For the American Way is joining allies and activists for the largest anti-ALEC actions to date. You can be a part of it and make sure your voice is represented by joining our petition, which we’ll use in showing strength against ALEC and sending the message to ALEC legislators in Chicago next week.

We’re encouraging PFAW supporters to come to Chicago if they can, but you can be there in spirit -- in the style of a “virtual march” -- by adding your name to the petition now.

When we joined efforts last year to pressure companies to break ties with ALEC, over 100,000 PFAW members took action -- and many of them took repeated action, targeting specific consumer brands. We had remarkable success, with companies like McDonald’s, Coca Cola, Pepsi, Proctor & Gamble, Amazon, Blue Cross, Kraft and many more officially ceasing their support of and involvement with the group.

Now we need to keep up that pressure and get ALEC’s legislator members to do the same -- to cut ties with ALEC, and stop pushing their radical pro-corporate and far-right agenda.

Help expose ALEC and diminish their support by joining this major anti-ALEC action with your signature now.

For years, PFAW and our affiliate PFAW Foundation have worked to expose the insidious influence of ALEC in state legislatures and the corporate special interests that are manipulating the legislative process via ALEC.

ALEC’s been instrumental in promoting notorious right-wing state legislation like Florida’s “shoot first/stand your ground” law, Arizona’s infamous “show me your papers” immigration bill and Voter ID laws aimed at disenfranchising minority and young voters in many states.

Membership in and support of ALEC must carry a cost … and that cost should be particularly high for the politicians who are actually on the front lines enacting ALEC’s dangerous, ideological agenda.

Please take action now by joining our petition to state legislators across the country telling them to Ditch ALEC!

And, as always, please make sure to help spread the word after you take action.

Thank you for taking action and for all you do.

Careful there, that might be an issue. Issues bad. Fortune cookies good.

Silly me - thanks for calling that to my attention. {:-])

Oh............any time.

Your a good egg - GF.

Welcome - definitely not a gmo - and that's for sure. {:-])

ALEC must carry a cost. I agree after we expose and conquer the conglomerate. This conglomerate is powerful enough to control whether ALEC will thrive or not!

[-] -1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

It's already been exposed.

[-] 3 points by windyacres (1197) 11 years ago

Do you believe we should alter it or ignore it?

[-] -2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

I believe that you should stop ABCing the shit. We have had threads on it. Not every day is a brand new day.

[-] 2 points by windyacres (1197) 11 years ago

It still seems to be in the proper stage, but I'm interested in learning about it in a deeper way. What stage of understanding do you believe we are in now?

[+] -4 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

No, you're fucking around.

[-] 2 points by windyacres (1197) 11 years ago

I guess you're right. When is the debt ceiling show coming on? Aren't the pesky repubs going to shut down the government?

We might have time to discuss immigration or even ALEC, but my heart will no longer be in it, because the suspicions of a financial world mafia do indeed exist and because they control all of those issues, they must be stopped.

[+] -4 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

You aren't interested in any of the above. Frankly, you are more into blowing smoke up each other's asses and dumbing shit down. And socks.

[-] 3 points by windyacres (1197) 11 years ago

My point is there's no reason to care about any of those issues when a, "super-entity" exists to act like a casino to the world. The super-entity will choose the result of each particular issue. Hope dies.

[-] -3 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Bullshit.

[-] 2 points by windyacres (1197) 11 years ago

We are discussing whether disagreeing slightly on just one of many issues can prevent formulation of the 99%. This forum is an excellent example of a group of like minded people not being able to unite against tyranny.

Discussing issues other than the super-entity is possible as long as all of us keep in the back of our mind that we are aware that taking care of the conglomerate has to be step one.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Again. Bullshit.

I believe she was talking about wedge issues, GF, not all issues. The multitude of wedge issues the government uses to keep us distracted.

[-] -3 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Oh--I understand this precisely.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

Renneye's not stupid enough to believe "issues don't matter." I can pretty much guarantee you she was talking about wedge issues. The difference between talking about Zimmerman and Zurich, if you know what I mean.

Not that SYG is unimportant, mind you. That's not my point.

[-] 1 points by Renneye (3874) 11 years ago

It's ok, 'G'. GF has been trying to indirectly pull me out through one liners with other posters for days.

If she has something to say to me, she knows where I am. Just like she tells everyone else to do with her.

No need to get involved. Thanks, but I've got this.

[-] -3 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

I did. It was the biggest line of shit. It still is.

[-] 1 points by Renneye (3874) 11 years ago

Disagreeing with the post is one thing, which is fine. I usually don't bother answering simple differences of opinion...but, you've since gravely distorted my words in your posts to several people here, and you're too smart to not know that that's what you're doing. In my book that's a lie.

I never took you for that kind of a liar. But then, with your ever increasing vulgarity, I haven't paid as much attention to your posts as I used to. So, something changed with your intentions here, along the way.

Once I realized you intentionally lied to make me look bad, well...what can I say, I lost all respect for you. I know you could care less about that, and that's fine. No biggie.

But, you're a part of the 99% and have a right to be here. I do wish though, that you would quit with the extreme vulgarity on this forum...and I find it head-shakingly unbelievable that you haven't, at the very least, been reprimanded or warned, even slightly. Many people have mentioned this now. There are times when the recent comments section looks ridiculous.

[-] -3 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

I watched you lay a line of shit out. It was shit. I told you it was shit. Still think it's shit. No lie. And I am making fun of the shit. No lie. Because it was shit.

[-] 2 points by Renneye (3874) 11 years ago

"Issues are bad", That's about one tenth of the comment I made. You purposely have repeated those words out of context. Distortion with mal-intent.

You are a liar. One could argue that everyone lies. But lying to purposely make another look bad...is the worst.

I have no interest in a discussion with a liar. And I have no interest in a 'discussion' with you. I've seen your discussions, and they're not my cup of tea. Try and refrain from making the forum look like hell.

[-] -3 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

You must have me confused with someone that gives a fuck with what you think. It was a shit post-no lie. It was a shit line-no lie. I'm making fun of it-no lie. It's still a shit post. Go fuck yourself. Go build a bridge to the ground on............facebook.

[-] 2 points by Renneye (3874) 11 years ago

Heheheheheh....a contortionist.

You can think my post is no good, and even say so. No problem. But don't take my words and rearrange them to suit your own purposes.

Behave yourself.

[-] -3 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Hehehe. Listen, you dumb fucking bitch. You fucking jumped someones ass stating emphatically that issues were bad. Several people came and pat you on your fucking head. There's nothing to twist. Fuck. Now. Off.

[-] -3 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

I have this down. Precisely.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

No. You don't.

But you guys keep on thinking there's some grand conspiracy against you if that's what it takes for you to feel important.

[-] -3 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

I have this down precisely.

Careful now, there are those among us who have difficulty putting together cogent sentences with the Koch's or ALEC. in them.

John Engler, former governor Michigan is one of those that tie their tongues.

A Koch industries trainee, and a member of ALEC, during it's "formative years", he is today, Rick Snyder's mentor and go to guy.

I suppose it's to help him find the loop holes in the law Engler left there during his tenure. .

That's correct, ladies and gents........TPTB have actual names and relationships with lobbies and industry.

".TPTB have actual names and relationships with lobbies and industry."

Lets hear em. And then lets see how many you purposely left off.

[-] 2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

here's 3 of the most damaging ones

Charles Koch

David Koch

Pete Peterson

[-] 1 points by TikiJ (-38) 11 years ago

I agree. Would you like to add anyone else? Maybe Jamie Dimon?

Who do you think the Koch brothers answer to? Because the ones with the real power are the ones you never hear about, the ones who arent in the Forbes maagzine.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Sure...toss him in. No problem.

I'm sure there's a conspiracy theory out there about who the Koch's answer to.

For now?

They run the most insidious anti Democratic campaign in the country.

Fucking libe(R)tarians.
