You've taken a new slant, and opened with that bent.
If you think about the fanaticism required to attempt to brainwash a few generations of your own children, and set up extermination camps for human beings that you don't want in your "new world order", then I'm guessing that being defeated in a conflict (WW2) was just a minor setback.
It took a change of government in the US to actualise the coup d'etat in Iran.
