Forum Post: The anti-war movement as a meeting ground for liberal and libertarians

Its been suggested by some, that in order to accomplish the demanding objectives of the OWS movement, that some how a unity needs to be attained between the diverse elements that make it up, especially, the opposing polarities of liberals and libertarians.

Can the anti-war movement be the meeting ground between these two apparently opposite political movements? The urgency is extreme, as the next possible war, the one in Iran, could be the trigger for a horrendous global nuclear war between the US versus Russia and China.

The only question is, what would we do with the money we would save by ending our involvement in foreign wars? Liberals would like to see the government use the money to provide programs like the New Deal to rebuild the economy, while libertarians would prefer to leave the money in the pockets of the citizens, so that they can invest it.

Perhaps there is some way we could do both? What do you think?

Ending the wars should be coupled with massive shrinkage of the Federal government. The money saved would be in massive tax cuts and return of power to the individual states.

What about work that needs to be done beyond the state level? Much of our infrastructure is C and D rated by the Army Corp of Engineers, and desperately needs to be rebuilt.

What about building new high tech infrastructure, to make us a leading first world nation?

There are some things that must be done at a national level. But that has nothing to do with about 90% of the present government.

From what I can see, the present government isn't doing anything productive at the moment.

Very true.
