Forum Post: The 1% Need Us More Than We Need Them

This is true! The 1% need us more than we need them, THEY JUST DON'T KNOW IT YET! We clean their houses, we buy, cook, and serve them their food, we clean their streets, dig their ditches, and collect their garbage. Without us doing our part, they would have to do for themselves, and I don't think that they could even if they would. Something to consider is, we stop doing for them.
Here's something else we better start paying attention to; in state after state now, the republicans are passing bills into law that restrict voting eligibility, and most of the restrictions will fall upon people who traditionally vote democrat or independant. They are doing this so that we won't be able to vote them out of office. Just knowing our counterparts, what drives them, and what their needs are will help the OWS cause.

First of all, to those of you who criticized my ideas, what ideas do YOU have? Are you just here to complain about the 1% or here to actually DO something about them?
To the person who commented on my point about voter eligibility restrictions I say this: The ID issue is merely the starting point chosen by the republicans, I guarantee you if we let this pass, in time, other more serious issues will become law that will have far more devastating effects on a great many voters, and if you don't already know this, you are more dead in the head than your comments make you sound. YAWN!

I have no problem with a photo ID being required to vote as long as (a) any photo ID will suffice, and (b) DMV hours are standardized across all districts. Measures beyond that need to be barred, and mass purges of the voter rolls like the ones that occurred in Florida in the 2000 presidential race need to be prevented, reversed, and prosecuted.

Yeh just think, after the ID laws are passed, so we only get one vote from one citizen, they might pass laws requiring a test so that our futures are not consigned to millions of completely uneducated and apathetic people.

As for ideas. How about suing on a mass case, the Dem and GOP parties for corruption naming the big Wall Street firms, Banks, and the Fed as co-defendants for a conspiracy to steal from the American people, and a devaluation of our assets. I bet you could get alot more than the paltry number of protestors to sign their names to a lawsuit. Millions would do that. Many educated people have said the next revolution will be in the courts. Surely there are OWS people who are lawyers that would draft the complaints for free.

we also spend our lives buying junk and putting it in storage so that they can have more profits. they dominate our culture, they get in between two people wanting to spend their lives together and fool them into including all kinds of nonsense like papers and metals wrapped around our fingers and faces.

they understand human nature and know how to take advantage of vanity and undermine your self-esteem.

They took away or local farms and now we're fat and medicated.

They took away our freedom of thought and narrowed everything down to good and evil, right and left, capitalist and communist.

We live in fear as we look into their made up world on TV everyday.

the constitution was designed to give us life, liberty and protection yet we have to depend on them for all of those.

capitalism needs to oppress people for cheap labor that is why you are not guaranteed equal opportunity and equal life -- under capitalism even if you are willing to work 40 hours per week in exchange for a home, food and good health you can't have it, this is because the system needs cheap labor and will break you down till you finally accept whatever it can give you out of desperation or fear of starvation and death.

life, liberty and protection??

first slaves, but they made bad industry workers so they were freed and laws were passed making it illegal to live off the land. this forced them into factories as cheap labor. then civil rights came so now the next evolution of cheap labor, immigrants and foreign markets. but those are closing as well, where to next capitalism?

Jimboiam, you're joking, right? Good luck finding the judge, or judges, who will be presiding over THAT lawsuit! How many judges are going to be against wall street's reach? And how are you going to find a jury of unbiased citizens? And as for your comment on only getting one vote from one citizen, voter fraud is an issue that was never even given any credence by the republicans until Obama got elected, go figure that!

totally agree with the elites needing us more than we need them. on a resource-based economy (rbe) where we distribute natural resources for everyone, there won't be a need at all for money and it will eliminate elite groups.

Yeh stop working for the man. That's a great idea. Not that there aren't other people who aren't as committed as you are to this idealistic cause that won't gladly step in and take your place. Then where are you? Still unemployed and upset while the 1% lives their lives with no change? What an achievement. The 1% can even import help from outside of the country, or even better, move out of the country and take it with them. Then where are you? Do you people actually think about the ramifications of your decisions or just say the first thing that comes to mind?

Exactly. Indians are cheaper, more productive, have a terrific work ethic, and shower. OWS participants should take a lesson.

yawn. More philosophy from "Fight Club"

"restrict voting eligibility"

How so? Who doesn't have an ID? If you are poor, you're going to need that ID to get any government services. If you receive a valid paycheck, you're going to need an ID to cash the check. If you drive, you're going to need an ID. Who does this affect?
