front rows fill up fast - get there early
34th Street and 6th Ave (Herald Square)
Bad idea. The workers of the parade volunteer their services. The parade is for children. I enjoyed it a great deal as a kid. You want public opinion to bite you in the ass... go ahead and follow through with this tactic.
Indeed, any demonstration should be rated G
I wonder if there is a Scrooge float
I agree, a presence would be nice, but a disruption will lower public opinion.
Fair enough, what about a silent sit in with signs. When the whole world is watching, we need to alert them to a crisis.
... and we are in a crisis.
you don't want to avoid telling people the Kitchen is on fire, just because they sat down to have dinner. Some things need to be alerted.
Use Tact, but command the opportunity to create a good table conversation about the condition of our world
This idea I love! Being a noticeable presence at parades across the nation :)
I do to
human mike performance could do that
Just keep the hippy idiots out. 99% of the country thinks that OWS is a bunch of recent liberal arts college grads who think they deserve free handouts. And think they deserve a job because they have a liberal arts degree. While these people exist, they ARE NOT OWS. Be careful, and if you see someone being stupid, ask them to leave as they are giving OWS a bad name.
Remember, it only takes one idiot in a crowd of 10,000 to make the whole movement look bad.
doom
Recent Liberal Arts graduates are definitely part of OWS. You can't just ignore their presence because you think they are annoying.
I know they are. They are the ones giving it a bad name. If you graduated from school with an art degree, and you expect a job market for you in a good or bad economy you are crazy. There are a few jobs, but even in a good economy, a college degree means nothing unless you can prove you are useful.
I agree the system is corrupt. But you have to keep people from making OWS look bad.
Not all liberal arts graduates get "art" degrees. Many of them are pre-med, sociologists, therapists, educators, geologists, computer scientists, etc. The thing about liberal arts that is different from other types of institutions is that it requires you to continue taking math, science, history, and language past the high school level. It is a more rounded education than a simple career oriented goal path and produces more well-rounded individuals.
People making OWS look bad are the ones who are using violence, and who are peeing and defecating all over businesses. Some of these people may be liberal arts, but some of them could be veterans, working class, or state school college grads.
Liberal Arts graduates are not making this movement look worse by being a part of it. We need more rounded individuals with different approaches to the world than can be found in text books.
CS is not liberal arts. Sociologists have next to NO jobs available. Therapy and pre-med is good, but that requires more schooling. It's not well-rounded, it's just a simple extension of high school. The classes aren't difficult.
If you want a job after college, then you need to pursue a degree with jobs in the field (engineering, science).
Everyone goes to liberal arts and business because it is easy.
lim as GPA -> 0 Engineering = business.
I have to disagree. My liberal arts classes kicked my butt, and I graduated as the Valedictorian of my high school. CS is a technical liberal arts major at the school I went to, and though sociologists make no money, they are extremely well rounded individuals. I have a job after college, and I love my job. And most of the people I graduated with have excellent jobs as well.
People choose liberal arts because they don't want the "cookie-cutter" textbook education that is provided by state schools. People choose liberal arts so that they can challenge the status quo. My liberal arts college taught us academically about many of the problems going on in the world today, and revolving around the banking crisis. And we got multiple points of view so that we could understand that there is no one opinion about how the world works and how to change it.
You are very mistaken, and I think should do some more research before you brush off liberal arts so quickly.
Hahah, well rounded doesn't mean you get a job. Different than the status quo doesn't mean you get a job. Sure, it's good info. Doesn't mean it's useful to anyone but yourself.
Liberal arts students... funny people. Valedictorian of your HS means nothing as well. HS everywhere is a joke.
Oh, I understand. You're one of "those people." Too bad. Try not to talk too much and give OWS a bad name.
I still pull reference from high school
In other words you were indoctrinated and believe every word they told you.
No actually, I was encouraged to question everything, including the teacher's points of view. My education was based around assuming nothing that you read or hear is the entire truth, that every person has included some piece of their own bias or opinion in every piece of information they write. Because of this, there can be critical analysis of everything, and this critical analysis helps each of us to understand our own biases and opinions as we interact with a changing and rapidly advancing world.
I agree with geo. This is a parade for children we don't need to protest there. It will make OWS look like the Grinch who stole Christmas in the eyes of the children and completely piss off their parents.
It would be a bad move all around and lower public opinion of us. Let's choose our protest/boycotts wisely.
Dear OWS: I'm on your side. Please don't disrupt the Thanksgiving Day Parade; you'll only turn people against you.
However, I suggest you quietly go among the crowd and distribute simple, G-rated literature explaining your cause, and perhaps relating OWS thematically with Thanksgiving. You might wear T-shirts or buttons saying Occupy Wall Street, too. However, act quietly and respectfully, as if you were nothing more than someone handing out religious tracts or flyers for health products. Maybe you might hand out candy or treats along with your fliers, too.
Once at the parade I handed out among the crowd tracts from the American Bible Society with scriptures related to giving thanks. Surely you have the right to do something similar and get in no trouble doing it!

at US Davis, the student sat in silent vigil as the College Chancellor went to her car. The Silence was Deafening.

OWS could be present in Silent Vigil and Signs. it is an important message.
If any of you havent seen the youtube video: "Old Timey Strong Guy Tears Deck of Cards" you need to go check it out. The guy in the video does an outstanding job of voicing what the OWS movement is all about without even using his voice. A must see. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDsTdaWtstE
thanks for the link. I take it focus, perseverance, strength and belief in the ability to succeed are part of your point?
perhaps an Egyptian theme for solidarity
Occupy these bastards instead. They deserve it:

things to be thankful for
I saw 3 OWS theme costumes on the eve of halloween
Congrats and solidarity to our brothers and sisters at the newly established New School Occupation! In the wake of the raid on Liberty Square, they established a 24/7 occupation in the student study center here in NYC. Statement below and more information here.

fly a white balloon with an eye on that gold tent and put it on parade

how about a dollar sign pyramid float
use a center may pole
with marchers in a square holding ropes connected with the top of the center pole
drape canvas over the rope pyramid
It's a great idea if you want to piss off the general population.
In other words, it's a bad idea.
Stick helium up Michael Moores ass and turn him into a blimp float.

Don't forget to bring your biggest banners to the macy's thanksgiving parade, be there early to get a front row seat and wait until santa comes by to hold up your banner as that is the most televised portion of the parade.

A horrible idea doesn't get better by simply repeating it over and over.
I hope they get some attention

Imagine NYPD billy clubbing thousands of Native Americans at the Thanksgiving day parade on national television

In today's America it is okay to club whites. But you better not club anyone else or you are a racist!

Please don't screw up our Thanksgiving. That would be stupid and wrong.
I hope some sort of presentation is made
then enjoy your "March of the Wooden Soldiers" and ignore you kitchen in flames.
Oh yeah, because if you screw up a parade that is going to fix everything. Idiots.
