Forum Post: Tennessee Rep. Wants Muslim-Free Military?

I was reading around the Internet and I came across this interesting article from “Raw Story.Com” about a Republican Representative from the State of Tennessee who is reported to have told “Think Progress” that troops who practice Islam should not be allowed into the United States Military.

Well, I am not all that much of an expert on what State Representatives are supposed to say and do when in office, but this particular article struck me as unusual for some reason. I think the reason I find the article kind of un-nerving is that I have been given to understand that America does, indeed, have troops serving who practice Islam.

In fact, I think (But do not really know) that America probably has troops serving in the United States Military from many different “Faith” backgrounds. We are, after all, kind of a diverse Nation, aren’t we? Doesn’t it stand to reason that with all our diversity and what have you, that there might be some people of the Muslim Faith in the Military?

My question naturally becomes, “What would the State Representative” who is reported to have said this want to do with the Muslim People who are already in uniform? I am almost certain I could say, without being too far off the bat, that some of those persons might have served for several years already.

(Somebody correct me if I am wrong in that assumption. After all I am only a amateur political commentator here. I have fewer than 80 years experience at this sort of thing.)

Maybe someone is thinking that those who are already serving and putting their lives on the line for America every day in combat situations ought to be forced out of the Military. Could that be the thinking?
