Wikipedia notes that CR gas has effects that are "are approximately 6 to 10 times more powerful than those of CS gas." CR causes intense skin pain and irritation, and can lead to blindness and death by asphyxiation.

''It is some kind of neuro-toxic nerve gas,'' doctor Mohamed Aden, who usually works at the Cairo University hospitals, told Australia's The Age. ''We are seeing people whose upper respiratory tract is in convulsion - we have to give them diazepam to relax the muscles to allow them to begin to breathe again.''

How does a government allow lethal nerve toxins to be used on it's people? Also those OWS election monitors need to be careful if they are out in the crowd with the protesters, this isn't just pepper spray.

Aside from the question of how the Egyptians can use it - that article said the U.S. made and exported it. In canisters marked "Made In the USA" - this was no raw chemical for research purposes, but designed to be used just how it was. How is it that one of the last manufactured goods left on Earth that America can export is a chemical weapon??? I thought there were laws and treaties about that kind of stuff. I want the people who made and shipped out this stuff - and I mean the PEOPLE, not "some unnamed corporation in the X City area" - I want them named in the press, and whatever done that can be done to emphasize that this isn't acceptable.
