As House and Senate leaders fine-tuned rival deficit reduction plans, Congress is on a path to do exactly what the American people don’t want. The American people have consistently stated, in poll after poll, that they want the wealthy and large corporations to pay their fair share of taxes and they want to protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. In a recent Washington Post poll, 72 percent said Americans earning more than $250,000 a year should pay more in taxes.. Just recently the group called the Patriotic Millionaires agreed they should be taxed more, including billionaires that back the Buffet Rule. Congress is on track to give them the exact opposite: major cuts in the most important programs that the middle class needs and wants, and no sacrifice from the wealthy and the powerful. Cutting too much of the people social safety net at this time would be devastating to the economy and to the people.

The ugly truth. America's wealth is STILL being concentrated. When the rich get too rich, the poor get poorer. These latest figures prove it. AGAIN.

According to the Social Security Administration, 50 percent of U.S. workers made less than $26,364 in 2010. In addition, those making less than $200,000, or 99 percent of Americans (actually more like 98%), saw their earnings fall by $4.5 billion collectively.

The sobering numbers were a far cry from what was going on for the richest one percent of Americans.

The incomes of the top one percent of the wage scale in the U.S. rose in 2010; and their collective wage earnings jumped by $120 billion. In addition, those earning at least $1 million a year in wages, which is roughly 93,000 Americans, reported payroll income jumped 22 percent from 2009. Overall, the economy has shed 5.2 million jobs since the start of the Great Recession in 2007. It’s the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression in the 1930’s.

links please

if they are using their position in Congress to block an end of Bushite tax cuts then lets replace them.

we want names.

faux nuuz is not a source.

and if the dems dropped ending bushite tax breaks, one has to ask just how much did the Norquist Tax Pledge - which none of them signed - have to do with it?

Fox news is a very credible source and if you look at the ratings, they are blowing away all the rest of the news media outlets. MSNBC, CBS, HLN, etc are all the assMonkey's (obummer's) lap dogs and they will report only what the Obammy admin wants the public to hear.

faux nuuz is not a credible source I said.

Does Faux Nuuz make you stupid?

and not half as useful

What are you trying to say?? are we all supposed to watch the two whack jobs instead "Mr Ed and Chris Matthews"??

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 12 years ago

I'm sure that there are any number of credible sources who crunch their numbers and make their assessments in a non-partisan fashion . . .

but since I am not one of them, I really can't say . . .

the repelican party is DONE

Why you ask? I can tell you are dying to know -

They are DONE

Global warming has been debunked. (Al Gore is that you????) The dummycrats have had control of the house since 2007 and look what they did, destroyed America. Obummer has spent, and wasted more money in a few short years than Bush did in 8 years. Sorry but the dems are hosed in 2012 with over 75% of the population does not like the way the Country is heading. Oh and one more thing "Gov Walker of Wisconsin rocks"

Global warming has been debunked.

Yeah-ya. Check out the latest satellite images of the north pole. A ship lost to the ice way back in 1863 turned up just this past year - because the ice is melting . . . .

The north west passage will be opening year round very soon.

Wow I understand now and that is probably why here in Michigan, it is still kind of cold around July!!!! That darn global warming. The so called global scientists, etc have all been exposed for what they are (Fraud) Sure there is pollution but no global warming. It's a shame that now that global warming has been exposed for what it really is, ole Al Gore will not be able to start building mansion #5

95% of the glaciers world wide - and this is land based ice - are shrinking

Don't worry. You'll live long enough to realize you have been lied to, and hence, spreading more lies.

Zenmutt, are you riding a bicycle? Do you use fossil fuels? If you use any fossil fuels or products that require the use in manufacturing, you are as naughty as Al Gore. If you greenies really believed what you claim, you would not use any fuel no matter what.

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 12 years ago

yeah-ya

I guess that means we would just stop eating too, given the fossil fuel inputs into agri-business and the transportation of food products dependent on an industry that currently cannot operate without the benefit of oil.

Bet if we stopped eating that would make you real happy, huh . . .

fukin nimrod

kiss my ass

The only way to change this dysfunctional government is to get money out of politics so that the government returns to promoting the general welfare of all of the American people and not just the wealthy and corporations.

Do you know that most of the delegates to the consitutional convention of the US constitution were business people. Speculators, maerchants or owners of slave operated farms/plantations. Do you think they have set up a system that works against them or for them? Jesus is the only one who can help!

WE DON'T NEED A TAX INCREASE. Not on anyone. In fact, our government should learn to control itself so we can lower taxes. The rich pay a high enough percentage, the only problem is a few loopholes that need to be closed, and a few simplifications be made. Don't let the government continue to be stingy sons-of-bitches.

[-] 0 points by danmi (66) 12 years ago

Yes I know we do not need higher taxes, no one does. The Gov needs to be cut in half then cut in half again. We pay those losers and we should decide what they are worth and not them.

[-] 0 points by REALamerican (241) 12 years ago

Exactly. And why do they get paid so much? Especially when they can't even get anything done?

[-] 0 points by danmi (66) 12 years ago

Both sides are useless. They should be all deported and get some real Americans in there. When I say real Americans, I am referring to someone that has actually worked for a living.
