Forum Post: Suggestions for fixing the forums

Removing comment collapsing. Leave the approve/disapprove score, but make it so that bots can't auto-censor anyone's comments.
Add more mods. The boards are obviously understaffed, which allows things like these bots and trolls to run rampant.
IP ban the major troublemakers. If you don't ban them at the IP level they'll just keep making new accounts. Expand to an IP range ban if they are getting around the IP ban.
Force users to post at least 5 times in threads before allowing them to post new threads. This would force "swift boat" trolls who post one thread and leave to at least participate in the forum before leaving their poop.
Separate the forum in categories: News, Planning, Opinion, etc. As-is the boards are useless for getting any planning done.
Switch to Simple Machines Forum, or phpBB, or ANYTHING but this. This is OK, those other packages are 100,000x better.
If I don't see a fix on at the very least our bot issue, then I am will take the best users on these boards and move them to a forum environment that will allow them to express their views without harassment or bot censorship. I promise that I will not be nearly as lenient when it comes to forum disruption.
Very well put together solutions. The only thing I would say is the IP ban would have to be a last resort. For the ones that are known for a fact to be trolling and have multiple accounts, they should be IP banned. But it shouldn't be on the first "offense" because people shouldn't be IP banned soley for disagreeing with someone.
Other than that slight modification, I like everything you suggested.
Great suggestions! I discovered this forum only two weeks ago and was excited because I thought it was going to be a great place to share ideas and see what is going on at the other occupy's across the nation. But after only 2 weeks I see this forum as a total mess and will probably leave real soon.
I’m fairly new to this forum. It didn’t take long for me to see probably half the posts are trolls; and the other half are paranoid about the trolls. Because people don’t recognize my name they assume I’m a troll.
I agree with all your recommendations. Some would be pretty easy to implement. If something isn’t done I about the trolls I;m finished with this forum.

7. Purge the Demopublican Plants and Wannabe Revolutionaries who don't really wannabe Revolutionaries.
If someone plugs two-party tyranny, the Democratic or Republican party, or any Demopublican politician, ban them. And if they can't prove they're actually doing something to support OWS outside of this forum, then make them stay outside of this forum until they can!
