I have posted this here before....
First ... a Bot is a program or a script .... that can automate a task ... such as searching for a username and down-grading or up-grading their posts ....
a Bot can also be a script that changes login user names ... etc... or anything that is related to form input....
a Bot is only useful to the user to make it easier and less time consuming for them to complete their mission....
a Bot can perform repetitious tasks as fast as the server can respond ....
one easy way to stop bot execution is to have the Action Button (send, post, whatever) .... randomly placed on the screen.... and then when the user clicks on the it... the form also sends the coordinates ... which must match the placed location .... if not... the action is denied.... (including login)....
this would be quite complex for a script to overcome.... (however possible, but difficult)
if Jart/OWS wishes to implement this easy process ... and needs further help ... I would be happy to help ... non-publicly .....
futher ....
we should also use short life & lifetime cookies to deny more than one user login per computer ... (not per browser session) as a second step ....
also ... to limit multiple computer use.... we should be able to base identification on IP address... whereas IP can be spoofed ... a reverse ping should work .... however I havn't confirmed that
hehehe ... I can can see it now... this dialog between me and (the guy that has used bots here) is gonna get Shadz ,,, to say we are the same person again... :) ... but honestly we are not... I was a member here from... week 3 or 4 ... and a member of nycga from week two...
and ... often... not always... what the bot guy posts ...is very important.,.,. as with all of us including me.,.. often ... but not always... we are human ... btw.... lets get together and fix this country !!

ok how can your bot pass a server request ... w/o out all the info passed.... a random image image click asks for coordinates to be passed too ... how will a bot see or mimic those coordinates ???

this is the key !!! ... I agree 100%%%% ... and T... I do think I know how to do that .... and the point system is part of the problem ... well ... back in 2004 ... I was part of the first social network... The Omidyar Network... before myspace, facebook,... or any of them...
I learned a lot there... and the point system sucks... it brought a fantastc site ... which borned.. Kiva, ..playpumps,, major boost to GrameanBank... and a thousand more.... further it demonstrated the phenomial power that networking can become....
ultimately ... the point system.... which was intended to boost good content to visibility.... became a weapon.... used by groups in a team effort to promote themselves.... and downgrade others....
in 2007 ... Pierre shut in down... due to the infighting....
very similar to what we see here.....
The Point System:
the answer to a point system lies... into making it costly or profitable to the user....
imagine a system.... that allows you or I ... to tag/rate or index a post simply because I want to be able to find it later....
If I wanted to find it later ... I must have interest in it.... whether malicious or truthful...
now.... if we add networking to it.... ie... wanting to share it with select friends....
that tagging ... actually becomes more important .....and more selective....
and way less a weapon ...... (just an intro)
