It is easy to get angry in this situation we are all in today. But just because some of the 99%ers are blind and ignorant lets not blame them. Rather blame the media that makes it impossible to hear the truth. Blame the sellout politicians that refuse to do anything positive and blame it on the other party. And blame it on the rich corporations that make it impossible to live in this world without debt, pollution and deceit.
Republicans and Democrats, Communists and Libertarians. Those in power do not represent those of us that take these titles within the 99%. Having differing beliefs and tolerating beliefs of others once made this nation great. We do not need to lose our individual beliefs but rather learn to listen to each other. For there is a lot that we all can agree upon. A lot of common good we can do together.
Here, here!
We could all stand to hear this more often!!
Well put
The government wants a distraction from whats really going on behind the scenes so they use the media to BASH #OWS!!! http://therevolutionarytruth.tumblr.com/
I think we all kind of believe this. At least those that are really skeptical of our governments true interests. I should say, the interests of those in our government.
Yea, like obama with solyndra. Now days its all about $$$ and not about trying to serve and protect us the public's interest
No doubt. Has there ever been a bigger conflict of interests? Those in office are there to protect citizens, that is their constitutional responsibility, yet instead they look out for their buddies that kick them cash in order for promoting an agenda that helps big business. PROTECT CITIZENS, LET CORPORATIONS PROTECT THEMSELVES.
Exaclty you'd like my blog check it out- http://therevolutionarytruth.tumblr.com/
Definitely will.
feel free to suggest changes
Its good stuff. Correct me if im wrong but by the data you have listed, our government spends nearly $1 Trillion a year on welfare, which is the same amount as all of the student debt. I know there are some that actually need welfare but come on. Wanna boos the economy, put that trillion towards forgiving student debt.
put that trillion along with all the billions that was given to green energy companies that no longer exist or operate outside the US therefore no creating a single job http://therevolutionarytruth.tumblr.com/

I went for a job interview at News Corp and one of the producers, of a FOX 5 show, could not name a Tri- State U.S. Senator. [rolls eyes] I also noticed that they did not have a monitor following C-SPAN, only MSNBC and CNN; at least no monitor I could see. I don't know how things are done at CNN or MSNBC, but at News Corp....a producer unable to name a Tri-State U.S. Senator....really? It would be funny, if she didn't pass a train station, with his name on it, every day and live in his state. [shocked]
They don't know anything other than they are at war with the 'other side'. Their bosses tell them they are because the bosses' bosses' bosses are smart and they know what happens when we keep fighting this war between us.
The good thing is that Wall Street isn't made up of, necessarily, the best of the best minds in the World, though some of them are, admittedly, among the best minds in the World; no doubt. Still, We are up against a significant number of, "Who you know," types. Within this group, they may be best of the best of the, "Who you know," circle, but, unlike some of their, truly talented, co-workers, they are not necessarily among the best minds in the USA. Many of the men and women, we are up against, are utterly mediocre. This is something we can capitalize on, though it will cut both ways, unfortunately.
True statement. I feel like there a lot of very intelligent people that can see past party labels and could work for a common good for all citizens. We just need to put this think tank together.
OWS no longer represents the 99%, just like the tea party before it has been co-opted by the establishment. It is now an arm of the Progressive Left in this country...sad really.
Extremely sad.
Agreed. The government is responsible. The media is responsible. The corporate power structure is responsible. Those who are duped into believing that it's left vs. right are victims... nothing more.
I'm not blind and ignorant. I'm not blaming anyone for the position I'm in. I don't have credit cards, I don't have loans, I don't want them. I don't want to be labeled. I don't want to be told what to do if I am within the law. I don't want to be forced to work for less than I can afford. I don't like corporations, I don't like politicians. I don't like banks. I don't like war. I hate the media (the media does not represent me nor you). I love my family and myself and can take care of them without any of the above.
Are you saying you don't like being manupulated by the media.
Are you saying you don't like having the greatest country on the planet being turned into a cheap labor force for the multinational corporations
People that disagree with you are not "blind and ignorant"? They just have a different point of view.
You guys are not going to succeed like this.
If you read a little more youd see that I encourage our right to disagree. Its the fact that some refuse to recognize that something is terribly wrong with our nation that would make them blind and ignorant. I still believe it is the best nation in the world, I just want it to stay that way.
The American media, especially cable has made the people dumb. If you want to remain sane and retain you intelligence and humanity get rid of you cable. There are plenty of other entertainments, better and smarter......
Good discussion.
Unless Americans do not fight against all of what you said( The System), we are screwed. We need to actually change this, new laws will not do this. I am talking about a completely refurbished political system with trust busting on major corporations, especially the banks.
How do you get Congress to get create regulation that would hurt their bank accounts? It wont happen if we leave it up to them. This has to be a revolution by the people.
We need a focus demand that can represents the 99% of the people:
http://occupywallst.org/forum/our-1st-demand-needs-to-be/
So clear something up for me. If they don't represent us then who do they represent.
Good question. Maybe their bosses. I'm not saying you can agree with anything they say, but so often they portray thins in a manner that divides us rather than unites. That doesn't portray me. Hopefully not you either
I have to agree with you something really stink and we are going into the tank fast
Great post and I couldn't agree more, keep up the good fight. Does this seem linked to corporate and government collusion
There are things I don't understand like giving tax breaks and incentives for sending jobs overseas
If that is supposed to happen when it better happen soon because are on a course of just being a cheap labor source in a poverty stricken country
No joke.
the sounds like a conspiracy theory but it does seem to have a ring of truth to it. What do you think? Does this seem to align with what your are thinking
America is now a governmental system led by a shadow board of wealthy corporatists, who have almost complete power through the façade of Democracy and the controlling of the message through ownership of all major media. They subtly suppress opposition and criticism; control all industry, commerce, etc. They emphasize an aggressive nationalism, while demonstrating a lack of patriotism through the systematic transference of jobs into the global domain. They protect their interests through the court systems up to the Supreme Court that bases its decisions on what’s best for the board
The government works for the super rich and we're all just peasants. John Lennon "working class hero" sums it up well.
listen is important
Why does the 99% always complain about "corporations"? Corporations are just a collective of stockholders (people), and employees (people) that have come together to offer products (or services) that consumers (people) can choose to purchase....or not. The one exception to this rule is Obamacare. You will be forced to purchase a corporations product....ie....health insurance. And Obama is against "evil" healthcare corporations.....I dream of the day when Obama forces everyone to buy my products.
Wouldn't that be nice. I don't believe all corporations are evil. My father owns a small incorporated construction company. Its the corporation mentality that's so dangerous. The fact that no person is held accountable if they make bad business decisions. They get the rights of a citizen but none of the responsibility. And yes I do believe that there are a few 'evil' corporations out there that are as bad as we all imagine.
It's not the corporation that is evil. It would usually be a specific individual (or group) that violated the ethics rules of the corporation (or the law of the US). If corporations were evil, then the stock holders (this includes union pensions) would be evil.
My point here is....go after the individuals. Ie...enforce the existing US laws. Both the Bush and the Obama admin have not enforced the existing laws; However, I wish it was that simple.
I have to wonder if when a corporating goes public/Wall street that's when they are in the game.
I have worked for a lot of corporations that were not the villians that are being talked about.
Yeah, same here. And I think that would be the case. When going public, a corporations first priority must be to make share holders money. verything else falls to the wayside most often.
I really think that what is being protested are the multi-nationals. I think that once a Corp. goes public they get bought up if they have some sort of value. The Huffington post was bought up by AOL. The way I see it, is that it will become an “opinion shaping tool” that will eventually work against us
Yeah. Now if everyone could see this
"blame it on the rich corporations that make it impossible to live in this world without debt"
I didn't realize that the corporations had a gun to your head, making you buy their stuff! Feel free to go live in the forest where you won't be tempted to live outside of your means by racking up consumer debt and buying a house you can't afford...
bought my car for $2,000 salvaged and rebuilt
cash
See, good for you. And because of that you're better off.
Dude, not saying anyone is forced into debt but rather that it is perpetuated by banks and corporations that push credit. They hand out credit cards like candy. How many times have you been to a store and heard "sign up for a store credit card and save 20%". They'll do anything to get people hooked. I believe in living debt free but it is hard for a lot of people in this society we're in. And yes I would also rather live in the forest. Just don't be so quick to hate man. Its unbecoming on anyone.
A lot of people push crack on people too. A little common sense goes a long way.
But American consumers are sooo stupid. How do you fix that problem? I believe people should be accountable but also that sometimes that they deserve a second chance. And that our government should look out for consumers, not the corporations and banks.
Well first off you need to fix the whole 'conspicuous consumption' bullshit. They feel the need to buy things they can't afford so they look like they can.
I also believe that sometimes people should deserve a second chance, but I don't see this being one of them (for the most part). I'm not saying I don't feel for everyone that was hit hard though, so don't think that.
I'm a 23 year old student, I pay for my tuition by myself. When I was 21 I started my first company (while going to school) and sold it nearly 2 years later. Now I started another company because I feel like I could be pushing myself harder to have a better life in the end. My first company required no start up capital and I did it all on my own. There's no reason other people can't do the same.
Impressive. Thats great. yes people spend money to look good and it is stupid. There are a lot of people out there in tough situations though, in holes that they cant get themselves out of, even if they have woken up and realize how reckless they were.
