If everyone who makes less than $10 an hour and/or has no benefits would stay home just ONE DAY the entire country would shut down. Then make the 1% would realize they can't have that wealth without the lower 99%. Protest, stay home from work Nov 14th!!!!!
Oh, and as a side benefit you can make life harder for the rest of us who are paid more than $10 an hour but aren't in the 1%.
and then we can all meet at the unemployment office on the 15th
I'm sorry, but I really don't think this is a good idea. I support the Occupy Wall Street movement very much but this isn't a good idea. People need the money and abandoning health and safety occupations could kill people. Honestly, the top 1% already knows society can't go on without small workers and they are scared. We don't have to harm ourselves to remind them.
People who make less than $10/hr with no benefits are the people who can't afford to take a day off to protest the injustice of the system, much less taking weeks off to spend all day protesting like some people are doing. Anybody with the luxury of spending weeks camping out in a park apparently might have trouble imagining what it's like to have to feed kids by working for minimum wage.
There are lots of people supporting the movement that have jobs and otherwise. I can't be there because I am in school (yet again, going for more education because I can't find work right now) work two part time jobs and have two children to care for. The ones that are there are the ones that can be.
And so you're planning to boycott working to feed your kids on November 14? Do you think that anybody other than your kids and your boss and the guy who takes your shift will notice?
I work weekends and nights and attend classes full time. Otherwise, I would.
So you're calling for a strike that you, yourself are not willing to participate in.
Yeah, I'll participate, it will be probably a weekend night instead though, so i don't know if it will have the same impact.
So you're saying that as a person who makes less than $10/hr, you don't have the luxury of taking November 14 off to protest economic injustice.
If it was me I'd make sure I came into work and work the hardest I ever have. That way my boss will see I'm more valuable than my fellow workers and I can leverage for higher wages. Of course, labor unions hate this. They make a killing oppressing the individual worker while exploiting the collective.
A better option would be to not consume on that day. Don't buy gas, food, goods, and shut off your air conditioner.
I'm beginning to wonder if OWS is just a conspiracy of the labor union mafia.....
Wow! Not consuming is a great idea! It kind of defeats the purpose if people use it as a day to run errands, lol. That being said, You using the time that other people are being courageous enough to stand up for what is right as an opportunity for you to get ahead is as wrong as wrong gets. It's how we got into this mess to begin with. Please think about what your children would think. Would you celebrate this victory if your boss actually promoted you? Could you enjoy this victory knowing you only got there because of the empty seats left by people who are doing what they can to fight for their livelihood & the livelihood of others, including yourself?? What your endorsing is an awful domino effect. Can you please just take the time to follow this thought of yours? I'm sitting here missing the trick or treating trying to find the best way to sum up the dangerous consequences of that mentality to try to get you to understand but there's too many & for some reason I can't seem to get past the sadness I feel about your comment. It really has me turned around, I'm filled with genuine heart ache for some reason. I don't know why, I'm fully aware of the scab mentality, I'm no rookie on the subject nor am I new to political debate. One person can make a difference....that rings true for positive & negative. Please get on the side of positive change... P.S. The people calling out of work aren't just those who make less than 10 bux an hour...they're those who make more than 6 figures as well as those near the poverty line P.S.You said "labor unions" when in fact it's not just "labor unions" it's unions of all kinds as well as groups of people through out time of all walks of life
I'll laugh when nobody notices you are gone.
A General Strike (User Submitted)

Let's redouble the outreach to labor. The UK labor movement has called for a general strike on November 30th. Occupy Wall Street must show solidarity with comrades in the UK, Greece, Chile and around the world.

Black Friday Boycott (User Submitted)

Black Friday is coming up, so I propose that we have a nationwide general strike of consumerism on the one day of the year that is all about mindless consumption. Corporations rely on Black Friday to boost sales figures, so they are going to expect us to flock to their stores and buy their products. I say we give them a nasty surprise.
We have a golden opportunity to hit the big corporations where it hurts, and I don't think we should pass it up. Let's take a day that is all about consumption and make it our own, and let's make it loud and clear that we will not support the corporations that destroyed our economy and undermined our Republic.
What do you guys think? How should this Black Friday Boycott work?
EDIT Here's a rough promotional poster I made.

Yeah!!! Threaten losing the only source of (meager) income you have!!! That'll show em!!!
If you can't take the risk, please don't do it. Only do this if you can.
I've seen two other dates suggested for a general strike
the carriers of this idea need to find each other and coordinate before deciding on a date
Yes, you're right. We do need to decide on a date. I hadn't heard anyone else suggest this before now.
