Here is a quick and easy way to spread awareness of why OWS exists:

  1. Go on yahoo.com, gmail.com - any free email site
  2. Create a new email address with "Occupy" in the title
  3. Create an email list of people you know, people you don't know, government employees, corporate drones, corporate fat cats, etc.
  4. Send an email to your list every single morning with links to excellent documentaries such as "Inside Job", relevant statistics, OWS news, etc.
  5. Keep OWS spreading and keep it fresh in peoples' minds.

Living in New York City, I know many "closet" OWS supporters - people who work for Citigroup, UBS, Morgan Stanley, The Federal Reserve, accounting firms, advertising agencies, etc. who support this movement, but are afraid to protest in public in fear of losing their job and the bare necessities to live. While we do need to put food on our tables, creating an anonymous email address to send occupy-related mail and messages to everyone you know is a great way to educate people on the corruption of wall street without having to risk being fired or ostracized from your social circles. 1% and haters take note - there are moles inside all of the big banks. And they are going to destroy your organizations from the inside. Be very afraid. We're coming for you.

I personally don't care and speak loud and clear to everyone who will listen, but I don't expect everyone to go out and do that right now. Baby steps. And for anyone who has yet to watch Inside Job, you really should. No one can ever defend Wall Street criminals ever again after watching that documentary. Keep up the good work.

Here is an email you can copy and paste:

Subject: The 2008 financial collapse was an Inside Job. Occupy Wall Street. Watch Inside Job.

Body:

Hello friend.

Do you consider yourself to be an educated American citizen?

Included in this email is a link to watch Inside Job online. This movie exposes the corruption of our government and the big financial institutions. If you want to understand the criminal activities that have gone on behind the scenes in the financial markets, you absolutely need to watch this movie. If you don't feel comfortable clicking on a link from this email (which is completely understandable) google "watch inside job online" or purchase it on DVD.

After viewing this, you will understand why people are protesting in the streets in cities around the US and around the world. It just may inspire you enough to want your own voice to be heard. Let's reinstall a real democracy in this country again. Stand up for our freedoms before they're all taken away. Feel free to forward this email to anyone who needs to understand what is happening in our world right now.

Seems to me that the defining characteristic of OWS is that it actually occupies prominent, visible public spaces, a way of being that is under attack all over the place if not everywhere. It seems to me that this kind of public presence is essential to OWS and our first priority if we are to survive and grow is to re-establish open public 24/7 occupied spaces.

I'm not sure about this tactic. Maybe a phone bank type thing would be better. I think MoveOn lost a lot of potential when it just started flooding peoples inboxes with constant appeals. I don't think it makes the movement more sympathetic to be seen as spammers.

OWS exists because of the stupidity of the 99% up to this time. Ignorance of what it is to live in a Democracy. Education and vigilance. Our freedoms are being whisked right out from under our feet due to the indifference and ignorance of our citizens. Make copies of all the most recent laws and regulations upheld or passed by either the Government or the Supreme Court and once people begin to realize how much and how many of their freedoms are gone or given to the 1%... THEN, we will have awareness!

If that's how you feel, then create an email address and send that to people. The point is to get the common folk who are obsessed with reality TV and whatnot to start to think "Hey, I keep hearing something about that Wall Street place. Maybe I should check out why so many people are protesting in the streets."
