Money is corrupting elections. Why not require everyone to pay their own fare in campaigns?

Because then people with billions of dollars can overwhelm candidates who don't have billions of dollars....

Vooter hit the nail on the head; if everyone pays their own way in the current climate we're gonna have government by millionaires and billionaires because nobody else would have the funds to dive into a campaign.

But if we don't allow campaign contributions and we don't allow personal funding, then who pays?

We do, and we keep candidates on a shoestring.

Who do we pay money to? To anyone who wants to run?

We don't pay anyone directly, we use the force of law to provide a given number of free TV ad spots to any candidate attempting to run for office, and we provide a central fund to be split among the candidates for administrative purposes. The fund would be open to anyone who wants to participate.

What if a million people choose to run for each office? That would overwhelm the networks.
