  • Scientists offered cash to dispute climate study

    • Scientists and economists have been offered $10,000 each by a lobby group funded by one of the world's largest oil companies to undermine a major climate change report due to be published today.

    • Letters sent by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), an ExxonMobil-funded thinktank with close links to the Bush administration, offered the payments for articles that emphasise the shortcomings of a report from the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

    • Travel expenses and additional payments were also offered.

  • Big oil companies pay to eliminate environmental laws

    • Exxon and Koch, two of the biggest oil companies in the business are paying to write state legislation repealing climate change laws. According to tax records and other materials acquired by Bloomberg News, not only Exxon Mobil and Koch Industries are involved in this business, but also numerous other companies which have every interest to keep global warming under the carpet in various states around the US.

    • Basically, they are working to dismantle environmental programs by becoming active in the American Legislative Exchange Council, or ALEC, which allows private-sector parties to “pay-to-play” – charging thousands of dollars to sit at the table with legislators and craft bills

I can't say what Ivar Giaever's issue is with the climate debate - whether it is simply over the word incontrovertible or if he has been paid for his opinion - I have no idea.

And I don't much care. The facts are clear -

Here in Vermont, today, the temp is above freezing - we are at 37 F right now in Burlington. We are on track to see this season as a record in terms of least snowfalls . . ..

  • ever

And the ski industry is are the ones whining around here - quietly of course.

I'm not crazy about cap'n'trade - I think we should be much more proactive.

In any case - over the next few years, as the climate science does indeed become completely incontrovertable, I am certain you will discover . . .

  • the repelican party is DONE

in large measure because of their support from and for companies that are paying scientists

  • to lie
