Alicia Hurley, VP of Gov't Relations and Community Affairs at NYU, claimed in a recent interview:
"We're at a point now where we have kind of dwindled down the people we're dealing with to the people who live right on or around the blocks, the adamant opposition."
This statement is simply untrue!
Greenwich Village Residents, Local Merchants, NYU Faculty Members and the public at large who love the historic Greenwich Village neighborhood are uniting in Opposition to NYU's 2031 Plan!
NYU's "2031 Plan" seeks to build massive, mid-town size towers (some towers over 200 feet in height) in historic Greenwich Village, New York. NYU's 2031 plan calls for 20 solid years of construction in Greenwich Village between Houston Street and 3rd Street, from Mercer Street to LaGuardia. NYU's 2031 plan calls for the destruction of playgrounds, gardens, old growth trees, and parks and the rezoning of residential blocks to allow commercial/retail into NYU owned buildings.
Residents, merchants, NYU Faculty, and the public at large are uniting to tell NYU to STOP their destruction of Greenwich Village! NYU has been invited to develop in the Bronx (where they previously maintained a campus until 1973) as well as in the Financial District of New York City. Despite this, and despite strong opposition from residents and merchants in the Greenwich Village community as well as their own faculty members, NYU is seeking approval of their "2031 Plan"
NYU MUST reduce their massive plan and preserve the historic character of Greenwich Village!
New York City Council members MUST VOTE "NO" on the NYU 2031 Plan!
