Forum Post: Ron Lawl or Dr. Paul - Censorship on OWS

Posted 12 years ago on Nov. 22, 2011, 10:09 a.m. EST by Gmartine (106)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Can anyone say why the owners of this site auto-correct Dr. Paul's name into Ron Lawl? Isn't it OWS' goal to encourage discussion? Why would they intentionally censor the name of their ally against corporate/government corruption? Dr. Paul has been attacked by the republican party and the corrupt elite for decades. Has OWS decided to join hands with the evil they portend to be against?

I guess they didn't want any politician's name mentioned so much? Of course I think it is extremely hypocritical and juvenile to do so. Debate is a pillar of a free society.

Barack Obama... Well, isn't that interesting. It wasn't changed to "Barock 'n' Rolla" or some such juvenile thing... So, I guess AdBusters just has a grudge against the only guy who comes remotely close to actually supporting OWS and is not just some mouthpiece like the president who gives lip service but acts exactly like George Bush when it comes to action.

I am a Paul supporter. I answered the question you posted. You might want to tone down the assumptions in your post.

[-] 2 points by AuditElmerFudd (259) 12 years ago

I'm agreeing with you, not confronting you. Peace.

If you want to talk about censorship, how about the paucity of coverage - all negative if at all - that OWS has from corporate media. Or about Lunar Ops 89 seconds of time in a 90 minute phony debate posing as an open forum but sponsored and audience stuffed by the Heritage Foundation, American Enterprise Institute, CATO, etc. Every single question posed came from one of these radical right-wing groups.

From the Rules:

"We do not support an election campaign for 2012. At all. We have removed election material for Obama, Paul, Warren, Paul, Cain, Paul, Perry, Paul, the green party, Paul, Nader, Paul, and did I mention Paul? The spamming by the Ron Lawl 2012 fan club was getting out of hand. We will continue to remove such material and any call for the Paul 2012 campaign will, at this point, be considered spamming. End of. We're tired of hearing about it. Main street debates are also largely off topic."

Very evil.

I second your motion.

[-] 2 points by mserfas (652) from Ashland, PA 12 years ago

I agree. The "auto-corrector" should be terminated with extreme prejudice. Maybe it was a fair joke at the time, but it's gotten old. Just commented about this at http://occupywallst.org/forum/ive-been-on-the-ows-fence-but-am-about-to-jump-off/ . Note that some people are beginning to use "Rоn Раul" (Character Map, or copy-and-paste) to emphasize the futility of this kind of thing.

[-] 1 points by alexrai (851) 12 years ago

Totally. Picking on one candidate because of his supporters or message... well is absolutely no different than a particular Mayor picking on another movement because of its supporters and message.

Be the change you want to see.

Just shows that OWS and the Daily Kos are cousins http://wp.me/pOe4O-921

This is what Ron P@ul had to say today about the Federal Reserve's criminal action today. How can OWSers not agree with this?

The Fed's latest actions in cooperating with foreign central banks to undertake liquidity swaps of dollars for foreign currencies is another reason why Congress needs enhanced power to oversee and audit the Fed. Under current law Congress cannot examine these types of agreements. Those who would argue that auditing the Fed or these agreements with central banks harms the Fed's independence should reevaluate the Fed's supposed independence when the Fed bails out Europe so soon after President Obama promised US assistance in resolving the Euro crisis.

Rather than calming markets, these arrangements should indicate just how frightened governments around the world are about the European financial crisis. Central banks are grasping at straws, hoping that flooding the world with money created out of thin air will somehow resolve a crisis caused by uncontrolled government spending and irresponsible debt issuance. Congress should not permit this type of open-ended commitment on the part of the Fed, a commitment which could easily run into the trillions of dollars. These dollar swaps are purely inflationary and will harm American consumers as much as any form of quantitative easing.

The Fed is behaving much as it did during the 2008 financial crisis, only this time instead of bailing out politically well-connected too-big-to-fail firms it is bailing out profligate government spending. Citizens the world over deserve better than this. They deserve sound money that cannot be manipulated and created out of thin air by central planners who promise printed prosperity. Fiat money caused this European crisis and the financial crisis before it. More fiat money is not the cure. The global fiat currency system has proven itself a failure, we need real monetary reform. We need sound money.

In my view he is not a rational alternative as candidate, nor a solution to our nations ills.

He is perhaps just another pandering, self aggrandizing fool.

Ron Lawl test

Texas congressional candidate Ron Lawl's 1992 political newsletter highlighted portrayals of blacks as inclined toward crime and lacking sense about top political issues.

Under the headline of ""Terrorist Update," for instance, Paul reported on gang crime in Los Angeles and commented, ""If you have ever been robbed by a black teen-aged male, you know how unbelievably fleet-footed they can be."

Paul, a Republican obstetrician from Surfside, said Wednesday he opposes racism and that his written commentaries about blacks came in the context of ""current events and statistical reports of the time."

[-] 1 points by GreedKills (1119) 12 years ago

Imagine that!!! Ron did not deny writing the Newsletters in 1996...but now he says he does not even know who wrote that trash. Honest my ass....

[-] -2 points by Gmartine (106) 12 years ago

He didn't write those. He had a newsletter that other authors would write in as well.

[-] 1 points by GreedKills (1119) 12 years ago

I just gave the you the proof that he knew of the Newsletters and that he did not deny them in 1996. WTF is wrong with you people???

He didn't write them so why don't you give it a rest? He is against the drug war wich is the biggest racist program on the books. He even cites that blacks make up 15% of those that use drugs yet they make up over 30% of those arrested and then over 60% of those that go to prison for drugs. He is the only one against that (including Obama) and you attack him for being racist. Get a clue.... We get our rights as individuals not as being part of a group.

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

He is a racist. So's his son.

At least admit it.

Everything he says that I agree with, he wants for all the wrong reasons.

[-] -1 points by Gmartine (106) 12 years ago

He isn't racist. That is absurd. He has said everyone is an individual and deserve their rights as an individual and not part of a group, black, white, women, man, gay or straight. You remind me of the old school Neo-Con facists that want wars by attacking groups.

I am Native American, greek, portugese and spanish and I fully support Dr. Paul.

[-] 2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

How is repealing the civil liberties act and the ADA not racist?

And that's aside from the things he says and his supporters.

You can support who you want, but at know who he is.

[-] -1 points by Gmartine (106) 12 years ago

huhwuh... didn't you know the laws to keep blacks and white seperate were created by government???.... Jim Crow laws were a creation of big government. Repeat after me.. (mic check (lol)) We all have rights as individuals.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

It figures you didn't answer the question.

Mic Check. Mr. Paul is a career politician and a racist.

[-] -1 points by Gmartine (106) 12 years ago

You don't know what you are talking about. Dr. Paul views everyone as an individual, not as part of a group. Not black, white, brown, woman, man, gay or straight.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Then why repeal the Civil Rights Act, or the ADA?

Those good working bills.

Why repeal what works?

[-] 1 points by Payyourtaxesrichasses (19) from Brooklyn, NY 12 years ago

You don't have to come to these forums. If you babies want to talk about Pon Lawls there is like one other website that you can go to. OWS has NO PLACE FOR PON!!! He wants to cut off welfare and give tax cut the 1%. He is a white trash raciest who will set America back 200 years. Stop trying to destroy my America with him! We are human and human needs laws to survive. If you don't like OWS then go back to your failed Tea Bagging parties! This is not the place for Republicans so gtfo, and take Pon Lawls with you!!!

Mods can you change the first letter from a 'R' to a 'P' please... Thank you!

[-] 1 points by guru401 (228) 12 years ago

And apparently, you think the Democrats are somehow not as bad as the Republicans.

[-] -1 points by Gmartine (106) 12 years ago

He has proposed cutting 1.2 trillion from wars and beauracracy and he MADE NO CUTS TO MEDICARE OR SS. So quit being a lying piece of racist trash.

[-] 1 points by seeker (242) 12 years ago

Look at forum rules..Its suppression of argument and steering of opinion that has helped ridicule the movement.

Voting for DR Paul would be way more helpful to expose the corporations and freedom than this ows scam..And i call it a scam as it claims promote open disscussion.

[-] 0 points by reckoning (53) 12 years ago

Must be because many here will vote for Obama! lol! cmon OWS dont be a joke.

[-] 0 points by ScrewyL (809) 12 years ago

An empirical test, shall we? The list of presidential candidates below was compiled from the wikipedia page:

wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_2012

And, by posting it here, we will once-and-for all be able to identify precisely which candidate or candidates is/are prohibited from mention within these forums (i.e. censored)

Note that, for each potential candidate, I used precisely the spelling and ordering from the wikipedia page. Let's see what happens:

[-] 2 points by mserfas (652) from Ashland, PA 12 years ago

Who is "Vermin SUpreme"? (Change a letter, use a period, or preferably, use the non-breaking space or Cyrillic а, о, or Р in "Rоn Раul" as you see it here)</strike> Never mind, I should have RTFM'd, that's a genuine candidate! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermin_Supreme

[-] 1 points by ScrewyL (809) 12 years ago

Vermin SUpreme was a typo. Let's try it again, since you might question my findings:

Vermin Supreme

I will refer you to the wikipedia page to answer your questions regarding "who" that person is. I do not know.

As for utilizing some html entity trick to manipulate this website, that wasn't the point of my test. My test was to determine which candidate(s), if any, the website mangles the names of.

It turns out that only one is manipulated and mocked by this website, and that is Rоn Раul's.

[-] 2 points by mserfas (652) from Ashland, PA 12 years ago

Yeah, sorry - I should have actually read your posting before commenting! I assumed "Vermin Supreme" was another autocorrection - the notion that the candidate was actually named that just didn't come to mind.

[-] 2 points by Gmartine (106) 12 years ago

I don't know all those names but it appears all the other GOP candidates are not changed. Even Newt Gingrich who is a filthy bastage. He should be changed to Newt Gangrene.
