I am member of the Occupation. I am 35, and a college professor, and researcher. I work as adjunct professor, while working a full time research job as well. Two Jobs for which I make less than 17k a year. I'm not complaining, I live in a very affordable city. Just curious, what do you do?

If you are with the movement start your message with OWS

I am a developer, databases and web services. Live in NYC. Make enough to live on and even to put aside a little to help with my parents' medical bills, but not much more than that. I'm 31. I went to an Ivy League college and started a company with some classmates, but left the business because it wasn't my priority.

I'm not with OWS because I'm not an anarchist. I agree with their assessment that there is a problem. That's why I'm here. When they wake up, I will still be here waiting.

you do not have to be an anarchist to join OWS, we're not an anarchic movement.

You think you're not, but your statements make implicit the assumption that government and people are at irreconcilable odds. Listen to this: "We are not here to make requests of a corrupt political system - we are here to take our lives back into our own hands. We are not acknowledging subservience."

I can think of only two explanations. One: your entire GA lacks even a single political or social theorist, which makes you woefully unprepared to handle the job you've taken on. Two: your political and social theorists buy into the stupidity that people are subservient to government. Do you even realize the implications of that assumption, and how tragically it misunderstands democracy?

Sorry, but so long as you identify as an OWS supporter, you own that assumption. Congratulations. Me? I won't put my hands near it. I know better.

You say you are a member of the occupation, an adjunct professor and researcher, very good. But what so you mean by occupier? Do you have to be sleeping at an OWS location to be an occupier? If so, how do you manage to go to work on any type of regular basis? I assume you'd have to show up at your classes neat and clean, I have no idea what your research job entails. Just curious as to who you are asking- occupiers or supporters in general?

Why insist on making distinctions that don't carry water? I spend my days working, my weekends on the protest line, and my down time promoting the movement online. no tent (though I will be tenting for a weekend later in the month). the movement is not just in the parks. we the 99% are the movement, and we are everywhere.

Slow down, I was just trying to clarify what you were asking, that's all.

OWS Curious..Why are you even asking?

[-] 1 points by buphiloman (840) 13 years ago

because the trolls paint us as 100% jobless lazy bums. And we are anything but. (there is no indignity in being jobless or homeless so even is we were the "bum" bit is morally and sociailly tone-def).
