An evil corporation OCP had taken control of the government, privatized the police, and the hero had a hidden program that did not allow him to arrest the board members even if the murdered someone. Eventually the hero gets the program erased the cops quit their jobs as corporate thugs and joined the resistance.

Agreed.

For a cheesy sci-fi / action movie, Robocop was incredibly poignant.

Few films have painted so stark and accurate a portrayal of rampant greed and corporatism run amok. The depiction of the dehumanizing effects unfettered capitalism, authoritarian police control and ubiquitous surveillance technology is not unlike what we are experiencing in the streets.

But at least it's nice to know that Robocop probably would have stood with the 99% - in defense of free speech and peaceful assembly. IF only based on his "Prime Directives":

  • "Serve the public trust"

  • "Protect the innocent"

  • "Uphold the law"
