Forum Post: Rise up trolls!

We are witnessing the silencing of a valid voice in the movement, the movement of discontent, the voice of those who question the movement and its goals. Why won't OWS try to win hearts instead of blocking off people who will actually question what they are about and whether their goals are right for the nation? Some of you can offer legitimate ideas for how to move the nation forward. Some of you are, frankly, stark, raving, mad.

Yes indeed, rise up my fellow trolls and other un-American assholes (conservatives). We have to save the 1% from these socialist, hippies, communist, liberal dumb asses that think the 1% should pay their fair share of taxes (absurd).

They also want to block the corporations from being able to dump as much money as they want to manipulate elections. They don’t want corporations to have the same rights as a human being. What’s next: laws against corporate and human marriages or not allowing them to join the military? What idiot can’t see they are human!

There are trolls and there are people who legitimately don't understand or don't trust what we're trying to do. I disagree with the latter group, but many of them can in fact be engaged in a real debate about what is or is not right for this country. That's my personal litmus test; if we can discuss different possible solutions in a civil and intelligent manner then no matter how vehemently I may disagree with my counterparty he is not a troll. Those who refuse to engage, or who respond with incoherence, invective, and/or atrocious spelling and grammar are in fact trolls, and honestly if I were them I'd get out of the way. These discussions are going to happen; they're a symptom of a healthy, functional democracy and trying to impede them earns you not only my contempt, but the contempt of those who may agree with you politically but have no patience for your crap.

Point taken, however... I meet just as many Occupiers who are as stubbornly nasty, rude, inarticulate, dismissive of valid points, facts and arguments as you claim counter the movement.

I ask valid questions, bring up valid points and am actually on the side of change... but if I do not share the exact opinion expressed by a protester... or if I, heaven forbid, offer an alternative method... well... I have been attacked most grievously.

Don't make the mistake of thinking the nastiness is only on one side or the other. It's shared by both, believe me.

I'm pretty sure that if you wanted to find them (or if you happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, in which case I'm sorry it happened to you) you could definitely locate and engage our idiot patch. I do agree with you that we have one, and I've had several run-ins with them, the most recent of which involved a pretty much punctuation-free wall of text after I complained about plastering Mumia Abu Jamal's face across the front page. My personal advice is just to tell them why they're being idiots and then ignore them; only engage the people with whom you can actually talk (of whom there are many on here).

"There are trolls and there are people who legitimately don't understand or don't trust what we're trying to do."

So a troll is someone that disagrees with you. Thanks for clarifying.

[-] 1 points by ARod1993 (2420) 12 years ago

My whole point is the exact opposite of that; if you legitimately disagree with me on policy issues and are willing to sit down and make a reasonable effort to explain why then as much as I may disagree with you I can't in good conscience call you a troll.

Nice, now you answer your own posts. Are you mentally ill? What you do doesn't bother me at all, but I think it might be best if you sought professional help. If it makes you feel good to pose as me and to response to your own posts, by all means keep doing that. Life's short and we should do what makes us happy. However, my opinion is that you are simply wasting your time. Why not do something constructive instead?

We are trolls too foolish to bow to the wisdom of the self promoted. The other 1% that would have us live their lives rather than our own. Yes, show us love and compassion for we too bleed the same blood as those who choose subserviency over responsibility. The same blood as OWS.

[-] 3 points by OccupyLink (529) 12 years ago

Actually. That is not true. People are not being blocked for having an opposing view to the majority in the Movement. I take the point about people being "stark raving mad". There are a few of those. I think you know that they don't represent the Movement, are pushing their own agenda or are viewpoints put by others prentending to represent the Movement, but in fact hate it.

"Why won't OWS try to win hearts instead of blocking off people......."

Because most of these trolls are not voicing discontent, they are instead masturbating, using this forum as a way of getting off. After a while, one gets tired of handing them a Kleenex, and tells them just to get a room.

I think the OWS can be a force for good. I like this post because, though it is far from perfect, people of different points of views can express themselves.

But you have nothing to say. Otherwise you would say it. That's why you're a worthless troll. People who have nothing to contribute are trolls. Can you get this through to your thick troll brain?

hey man what,s up don,t let get to you and waste your valuable time , just keep roaming around the site and you will eventually find someone or some group you can vibe with even though this site has been censored it has grown out of the administrators control , and i mean that the OWS movement is the single most unique fucking movement since the overthrow of the greek gods by the mortals and demi gods , no one can stop it and no one can rule it some people may lead it here and lead it there but then there are so many people who adapt to the ideologies that it is insurmountable , so have no fear this movement will grow like jack in the fucking beanstalk with or with out leaders or assistance , so don,t trip to hard also what i am telling you is something i have only recently learned there are no experts here we are all babes in the woods so when the movement grows we must grow with it , or get left behind on the sidelines ,
